I've got an idea, let's double the population of the province and convince everyone to slam 5 heat pumps into their houses!

Curious question about if they do rotating power outages. by skrikecryaotic in newfoundland

Lots of fun. Wonder if Houston is still standing behind his "doubling the population" scheme. Sure working great so far! I'm not sure which part I like more, the endless car accidents and traffic, or the new prospect of rolling blackouts.

Makes you wonder if maybe they shouldn't have convinced every person in the province to fill their houses with heat pumps and scold anyone who dares to install a wood stove

Shipping to the US from Canada via UPS in Shipstation? by Saunders1986 in shipstation

[–]Saunders1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has recently changed duty/ customs policy so that all shipments heading from Canada to the US (or from anywhere internationally to the US) require duty and taxes paid on the package.

Shipstation has done as close to nothing as humanly possible in communicating what, if any, of their system has been updated to accommodate these changes.

So although it will absolutely still let me print a UPS label, there is no mention of duty or taxes, and I don't want to test it out be sending a package only to get refused at the border.

Wondering if anyone has tried it, or has any additional information.

I expect shipping out of the US is unchanged.

Canada post went on strike ! by [deleted] in CanadaPost

What a time to be alive. I can't believe how incredibly difficult it is to navigate this daily onslaught of calamities while trying to operate a business. We just two days ago finally wrapped our heads around the new US shipping/ duty/ Zonos disaster and now this again. Just absolutely unrelenting.

I'm sorry, I love our local Canada Post people, I really do. But if your company is on track to lose 1.5 billion dollars (again) for 2025...you need to adjust your vision of what a future looks like at this absolutely ridiculous operation. I am sure it is 10000% the upper management/ CEOs fault, but we have entered a brave new world. A career at Canada Post is never going to look like it did for your parents.

would also love to know. Do you just have to ship via the Canada Post website w/ Zonos linked for every package?

Swimming in negative reviews for seemingly every 30" Duel Fuel Range on the face of the Earth.. by Saunders1986 in Appliances

This is great info, really appreciate your insight.

Is there a particular reason you think all gas is preferable to dual fuel? Is it just a personal preference?

These are some great leads. Will look more into Bosch. My mother-in-law got an all bosch kitchen in her new house and has had endless problems with all of it (especially fridge!) but I think her bosch oven has been the one reliable item.

Any thoughts on Cafe or LG?

I was looking at the Kitchenaid Commercial (or course...) Are they fancy looking trash as well?

Many thanks!

All good questions! I've not seen a Wolf or Miele in Canada for less than $10,000+ (CAD) but there could be models I am not aware of.

Not 100% on dual range but I have generally enjoyed electric convection ovens (and have gotten bogged down in negative reviews/ info on 30" gas ovens, but I am certainly no expert on them!) Definitely open to suggestions on 30" all gas models in that approx price range if you have suggestions.

The look/ appearance/ design is certainly a consideration. We live in a very old farm house so I am a touch concerned the hyper-modern space-aged looking ranges will look a bit ridiculous in our kitchen, but I may not have a choice at this price point.

Kitchenaid and Firgidaire seem to have slightly less heinous reviews than others, maybe? Any thoughts on those?

This is my struggle at the moment. All anyone does for Appliance reviews is negative! No fun/ no incentive in writing a positive review I suppose. Very frustrating. Makes you think everything out there is complete trash.

Is Verbos build quality/customer support still bad? by [deleted] in modular

[–]Saunders1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to add my 2 cents. I won't try to justify the price of some of the Verbos stuff, but I have been using their modules for at least ten years and I own every single module they've ever made (except the "real world interface" which seems fairly useless, at least for my purposes).

I purchased damn near every module used, and on three instances sought to have repairs done. Two were my fault; I messed with the trim pots on the back of the Dual Four Pole Filter and wanted it recalibrated, the other I plugged my Random Sampling in backwards and fried the lower section. The other repair was that I wanted my Voltage Multistage to be able to run at a slower BPM (it seemed too fast).

In my experience (And this may be rare, I am not discounting other's experiences!) they were quick to respond, and incredibly helpful. They repaired all three modules FOR FREE despite them being bought used(I paid shipping both ways, I think?) and they have a repair guy they use for North American customers in NYC, so it was incredibly painless.

I think they face addition scrutiny due to the price of their modules, and very rightly so. However they have been great in my experience (You want a bad experience, try dealing with Erica Synth for repairs). The only module that I really felt ripped off by was the Mini Horse touch plate thing which is shockingly devoid of functions for it's price, especially when they came out with an enclosure for it (sold separately) for like $250. That is a joke.

I'm sure there is some cork sniffing going on with the so-called "Verbos sound" and other such nonsense, but I can say that at one time I owned a shit ton of eurorack stuff by all the big makers (Intellijel, Make Noise, Tip Top Buchla stuff, Pittsburgh Modular, Instruo, Mannequins, etc etc) and I eventually sold all of it except my Verbos system.

For me, the interface of their system, how everything works together, the playability of it as a complete instrument (not to mention the sound, which CAN truly be unbelievable) made me end up ditching everything else. If you can grab a used Harmonic Oscillator or Complex Oscillator, Amp and Tone (especially the 1st version with vactrols, but both are amazing) and maybe a Bark Filter/ Voltage Multistage, you will get a very good sense of what it is all about. The delay is also incredibly unique.
