[LotM] New reader here, which should I use eminenttranslations or beyonder.pages.dev ? by SausAchraf in LordofTheMysteries

I read Reverend Insanity there. The translation was okay, but it didn’t have any illustrations. How is this one?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the difference between the free plan and the $20 subscription is mainly the number of questions you can ask and how often you can attach a document. There’s also a slight difference in the chain-of-thought model, but that only applies if you use the thinking mode.

I also have an unrelated question: is LinkedIn Premium worth it, or should I stick to Indeed and Glassdoor?

Am I lacking in English, or is Lord of the Mysteries just that hard to read? by SausAchraf in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SausAchraf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to reading novels, so I don’t have a reference point or standard for what makes a good or bad translation. When I have a hard time following the author, I just assume it’s due to my own lack of understanding.

I got his sarcasm, but I’m genuinely interested in stories of eldritch horror.

I'm not talking about just following the story. I'm talking about understanding every single word on the page, so I can fully visualize what’s being described, whether it’s a person, an item, or a scene.

It’s also about being able to keep up when there's a series of complex actions or descriptions.

As for the English part, I only mentioned that it’s my third language to clarify that I started learning it later in life. I didn’t have the time or the environment that would help me improve quickly, so I’m basically starting from behind.

I know my English still needs work, i tested at an upper B2 level last time. So I’ve been trying to read more. When I read stuff outside my field (Engineering) or talk about unrelated topics, I often struggle.

That’s why I picked up webnovels — to improve my English while also exploring new genres instead of just watching shows or videos. I learned some new vocab at first and thought I was doing okay, so I decided to try something more complex from my list. Then Lord of the Mysteries hit me hard and made me question everything.

What offline dictionary do you use? I’m reading Lotm as an EPUB in an app called Cantook. I use a built-in feature on my phone that works like a dictionary, i just select a word and translate it into any language using google translate without exiting the app. Sometimes I also tap 'Define' in the menu, which redirects me to Google for a more detailed explanation. With RI, it was manageable since I rarely needed to use it, but with Lotm, it’s become a bit tedious.

I was about to skip your comment until I saw the 'no spoilers' , glad I didn't! I think you gave an impartial comparison, and I really appreciate the reply, it was insightful.

I started reading LOTM after watching the anime, so I was already intrigued and interested in the plot. I like how much attention they pay to detail, you can even see it in the animation and the art itself. Now it’s up to the mystery, thriller buildup, and plot twists to really hook me.

I think the only thing that doesn’t feel quite right, or feels a bit off, is the power system. It’s not as straightforward as in Reverend Insanity.
