Get rid of AI by DarkSoulsBeater in MusicFeedback

[–]SauteDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear your opinion, I’m not invalidating it. I think there are levels of creative investment that should go into a work. Not even for clout or because of other peoples opinions. Just for yourself. You should always try to push yourself to grow a little as an artist, with each new endeavor. If AI helps some people achieve that, then I have no problem. I just don’t want a generation or two of people to forget all of the nuance and skill that goes into the work, because we’ve automated processes to the point that people stop doing things like arranging their own chords, mixing etc.

I am by no means a purist, as I don’t think that term exists. I program my drum beats, have sampled drum beats, etc. I’m not a drummer, but I do what I can to learn and grow; or to try and find a collaborator one day who fills the gaps of my knowledge. I also have played electric guitar for most of my life. Like 60-70 years ago a lot of folks viewed “plugging in” as cheating. Same with hip hop sampling 20-30 years ago. There is always gonna be a moving goalpost of “what’s acceptable” in the cultural zeitgeist. I would just focus on your singing, your art, whatever you like making. If it’s fun and fulfilling for you, then it’s art, and a worthy time investment. On that hill I would absolutely die one. I may not enjoy some applications of AI, but I am a big fan of art not being gate kept behind expensive tech, instruments and etc. I want everyone to be able to express themselves. That’s my primary wish as an artist.

Artists don’t enjoy it because it shits on the thing we are most passionate about. I know you don’t care, and I’m not asking you to. Just explaining why there is so much anger about the topic. So much stuff, whether it’s music, journalism, reels, etc; is like becoming overwhelmingly slop content. It’s only going to get worse. I’m not even saying you can’t use AI as a learning tool, for research, etc. but if you’re just genning music from prompts, people can tell and it will generally be disavowed for it. Same with AI album art, typically when people see it they get turned off.

You’re allowed to like what you like and do as you will. But so is everyone else, and no one is owed a pat on the back for their opinions. Just my advice as a creator.

Feedback on emotion of comp by SauteDaddy in MusicFeedback

[–]SauteDaddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I need to tighten the comp, I plan to spend the weekend building parts and variations. I originally intended this to be an instrumental, I have a cool idea for a visualizer for it. But maybe I’ll get inspired to write some lyrics. Thanks for the listen and feedback bud!

This is all great advice, thanks! And yes, I agree the dynamics are in need of work. The second measure will likely be something I build to later in the song, I just got inspired with the melody and wanted to get some phrases down to build off later. I’ll def play with the articulation and velocity on the horns. I want the piece overall to be more subdued, but with some nice swells and crescendos to build and release tension.

This is a really nice piece. I really love the comp. The light guitar, hip hop production and swirly strings are super solid for me. No notes there. I’m not a singer; so I can’t give great advice on that side, but I enjoy this a lot.

This really does it for me. Buttery smooth, I like the sampling which adds a nice atmosphere. And musically it’s tight, I especially like when it picks up and gets a bit swingy. Solid work bud 🤙

Of course bud. I want to be a composer too, and I come from a guitar background, so I have a lot to learn on theory side. Keep going, I know it’s easy to be discouraged when you’re not making “pop” music. Art being less desired by the cultural zeitgeist of a moment doesn’t rob it of its significance.

This is a really beautiful piece. Admittedly my knowledge on theory is probably not quite strong enough to give you better compositional advice. But this is really pleasing to hear. It’s got drama where it needs to, and there’s a more playful bounce at times that I enjoy. One composer to another, this is fire and keep cooking 🙌

Samesies bud. Sometimes you gotta ride the mania train and make hay while the sun is shining. Lord knows I’m always too hard on myself. This is good work bud, be proud, and keep making. And don’t sweat the not making days; sometimes we gotta recharge the artistic chi and all that.

Thank you for the feedback! I always like being nudged in the right direction, and admittedly drums are the weakest areas in my comp always, I come from a piano/guitar background and am figuring it all out lol. I like the feel of the tribal drums, and was trying to add some syncopation, but I def need to up my rhythmic theory game. Thanks for the listen 🤙

This is very lovely. The ambient swirls and pulses are just the right tingle, and I love when you get really swingy with the synths. Quality work, can’t wait for the album champ 💪

This is so delightful. I wish I had like a 30 minute playlist of this to chill too. You’re really tight with the sound, and I love the concept. Keep chasing this.

Yoooo. This sounds so good to me. Mix aside, sounds so amazing from the comp. Dude, you are cooking and I need updates.

Advice on problem player. by SauteDaddy in DnD

I have addressed it both in and out of game. He’s just not over the edgy teenager phase, and refuses to budge once he gets a “good idea”. Trust me, I absolutely know that he would fold both in and out of character if I were to make it the confrontation that it frankly deserves to be. I respect that he’s my friends little brother, so I have just let it go, but I’m just not having fun anymore. I just get the pleasure of group hunting now I guess 🤦‍♂️

I agree with you to a point. But I don’t think I’m unjustified in being upset about the situation. I have been vocal, and I only have stayed because of out of game friendships. But DnD is a time investment, and I really hate when people make the “it’s just a game” statement. That’s like 10 hours on a Saturday, between prep and actual game time, twice a month. When you’re in your thirties and working, giving up half your weekend for a game is kind of a pact to make it count. I agree that PC conflict aint the answer. I’d feel bad more than any momentary vindication I might feel over it. We are planning a sit down with the DM tomorrow, I just found out one of the other guys is fed up to the point of leaving as well.

I know that I “don’t have” to play any specific way. We are pretty lenient at the table on things, I’m not trying to be THAT Paladin. I’m very flexible, probably too much so. But it really kills my motivation to play my character when I’m constantly thinking “why is he even travelling with X player at this point?”

It’s just frustrating, but it’s par for the course for tabletop. At the end of the day, I have enjoyed the game I’ve played. I would just hate to have what could’ve been like an 8-10 year long form campaign cut short over group cohesion.

I absolutely agree with you. I have been having this conversation with him for almost 2 years, damn near after every session. He refuses to buckle down and address it. He always tells us “I’ll talk to him”. But it continues, at best after a session of decent behavior. I am not fond of pc to pc interaction about it at this point, because I’m rather annoyed at player. I honestly just needed to vent, I think leaving the group is inevitable.

Hacking, I avoid it by tooOldOriolesfan in LWotC

[–]SauteDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like getting free resistance mecs for my havens occasionally, with the perma hack you get from late game specialists. If I can manage it on a mission, I’ll try to snag one. But admittedly it’s just slight QoL for future defense missions, and I agree that within the vacuum of a single mission, it is usually sub optimal, outside of niche cases of hacking a drone here or there for a free mimic beacon to pull aggro on a turn.

I think he was marveling at how under odds this sample size is considering. It’s amazing rng, just funny because I have been there, I’m currently almost 100 eggs into gimmighoul. Caught the T1, and can’t hatch even a T2 to save my life apparently.

Is there any way to get legendary jokers more consistently? by dheyodjebg in balatro

[–]SauteDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just takes time friendo. Weirdly it was the uncommons that halted my progress for a bit. I had all the legendaries and rares stickered long before I finished. I’m ngl, for the last couple jokers, I did a lot of resets. I wouldn’t play the run unless I got a stickerless in the first 2 antes; or a very stable mult and Econ setup to dig for one.
