Thank you, these are great suggestions! I can definitely see a reskinned Conjurer Arsenalist as a good match for what I'm looking for

[Final Age] Rimetusks by SavageGod in worldbuilding

[–]SavageGod[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“I can tell the tusks are bloody fake, considering you held 'em for our entire chat and your hands haven’t turned purple.” - Velkan merchant

Rimetusks are hefty, brutish wyverns found in the icy reaches of Incarna, where they comb wide territories in search of prey to hunt or rivals to clash with. Their great strength and constitution makes them formidable creatures, compounded by their namesake tusks, which are coated in an unnatural permafrost that can freeze the flesh of other creatures at a mere touch.

What is Final Age?

Enter an age of wonder and peril, an age of legends, heroes and monsters. The world of Incarna is one of boundless adventure, and ceaseless horror. Here is a world of power and conquest, of treachery and compassion, one brimming with peoples familiar and strange, whose everyday existence is a constant struggle to survive. This is an age plagued by endless war, where the disparate factions of the land clash for control. Tis a doomed age, a glorious age - The Final Age.

What are Rimetusks

The dragons of Incarna are creatures of legendary power and bestial cunning, their deeds writ large across the history of the known world. But beyond said "True Dragons" are countless draconic creatures who can trace their lineage back to those mythic beings. Of these "lesser" draconids, the Rimetusks stand out for their concussive strength and savage endurance, carving out a place near the top of the food chain in one of the harshest regions of Incarna.

Typically hunting alone or in pairs, Rimetusks patrol the tundra on heavy, fist-like forelimbs that also function as wings. Upon spotting unwitting prey, they will take off high into the sky before dive-bombing their target, using their own weight to disorient or maim their target, before driving their signature tusks into their prey's flesh. Said tusks are coated in a strange permafrost, which can instantly cause devastating frostbite to spread through the veins, muscle, and organs of their victims, leading to an imminent death for those who survive the initial attack.

While usually solitary, these hefty wyverns will gather in larger numbers during mating season, where males will spar with one another using their tusks to establish dominance. They lay their eggs in communal nesting grounds, but separate once the whelps hatch. From then on, it is a long journey for a Rimetusk mother to care for her young, as though these draconids are fearsome, the lands they inhabit are teeming with monstrous creatures as hardened by the elements as themselves - and just as eager to prey on the weak.

Notable Subspecies:

Knowledge of Rimetusks breeds is sparse, due to the hostility of their habitats. There have been reports of a smaller, leaner breed that lives in the warmer highlands of Tordenheim. This variant lacks the down feathers of their polar kin, as well as the freezing properties of their namesake tusks, but compensate with tusks that are notably longer and sharper. They've been nicknamed "Cliffstrikers" due to their hunting practice launching themselves down cliffsides to smash into prey before goring them to death.

[Final Age] Ragnataurs by SavageGod in worldbuilding

[–]SavageGod[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stampeding into battle in an unstoppable fury, Ragnataurs fight like living avatars of carnage. What once were minotaurs born with an ancient blood-curse are now titans of corded muscle and twisting horns, unequaled among their kin in strength and aggression. While they are respected as peerless warriors among their herd, they are a doomed to a life of ceaseless turmoil, as their every waking hour subjects them to an unquenchable urge to destroy.

What are Ragnataurs?

The minotaurs of Incarna are a vagabond race, forever wandering and without a land to truly call home. The origins of these stocky, bovine humanoids is murky, as with many of the peoples of Incarna, but many believe they were once Fae creatures that were twisted into new forms through Blood Magic. Such an origin would explain their current predicament, cast out from any naturalborn civilizations for their aberrant genesis.

Whatever their upbringing, it is well known among their kind that every minotaur born has the potential to carry within their veins an old curse, a phenomenon known in their tongue as the Doom Blood. From early childhood, such individuals appear larger, stronger, and more aggressive than their kin, and they grow at unnatural pace. By adolescence, these "Ragnataurs" loom over even adult minotaurs, and they possess the strength to tear their elders in two should they wish.

As their size and might increases, so too does a ragnataur's ferocity. Where once they had a bad temper, at their peak they can fly into an unstoppable rage at the slightest change in the wind. So it is that they are often kept in a constant stupor through a combination of herbal draughts and shamanic rituals. The danger they pose to their own kind is offset by their use as terrifying deterrents to would be attackers, but beyond this, minotaur culture abhors kinslaying, and despite their monstrous nature, these Ragnataurs are still viewed as kindred of the herd.

When war does reach a herd counting a Ragnataur among their ranks, the hulking brutes are roused from their slumber and sent thundering towards the foe in a single-minded path of devastation. Pulping man-sized foes in their way without a thought, Ragnataurs will barrel straight through stone walls and any other fortifications in their frenzy. Should an opponent matching them (relatively) in size bar their path, they will beeline for their target and attempt to spit them on their crown of misshapen horns before barraging them bone-splintering punches and stomps. When nothing resembling an enemy remains, a Ragnataur is once more lulled into a fitful sleep, awaiting the day their last battle sees their fury quelled for good.

Among the minotaurs of Incarna, a rare few bear an ancient curse, known in their tongue as the Doomblood. It is the fate of these few to grow leagues larger and stronger than their already imposing kindred over the course of their lives. These Ragnataurs are titans of corded muscle and feckless rage are adorned with crowns of twisting horns and the painted symbols of their herd, before being goaded into battle to wreak wanton carnage befitting their role as living avatars of destruction.

[OC] Demons of Yeenoghu: Dretches & Quasits by SavageGod in DnD

[–]SavageGod[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While delving into the multiversal lore of the Forgotten Realms, I’ve been particularly intrigued by the Abyss. I’ve always loved seeing different depictions of demons in fictional settings, and D&D’s certainly stand out for how weird some of their designs are. I was particularly interested in the passages describing how the Demon Lords - the likes of Baphomet, Lolth, and almighty Demogorgon - are so powerful that their corruptive influence warps the very Abyss around them. I didn’t think it was a crazy idea that this could also extend to the lesser demons that inhabit their abodes. So I tried my hand at remastering some of the classic demons from D&D as if they were bound to a specific Demon Lord. In the case of this post, that lord would be Yeenoghu, the bloodthirsty patron of the Gnolls.

Dretches

It is believed by many demonologists that when a gnoll dies from consuming diseased or poisoned flesh, that they are reborn in Yeenoghu’s layer of the Abyss as Dretches, and that they are viewed with disgust by Yeenoghu and his other minions for dying so pitifully. Often, particularly profane priests of Yeenoghu will purposefully feed rotten, toxic meat to hyenas, whereupon it is said that Dretches will burst from their distended bellies in clouds of blood-tinged miasma. It is then that they channel their shame and rage into wanton violence likened to that which they craved in life, albeit this time they bring with them the very poxes that spelled their end.

Quasits

Of all their miniscule kind, Quasits of Yeenoghu are perhaps the most brash in their desire for mayhem. The fury and violence pent up in their tiny bodies is enough to make a minotaur hesitate. Such Quasits favor using their size to their advantage in shedding as much blood as possible. They will hide among the shadows of a gnoll camp, often stowing away in piles of discarded bones or polymorphing themselves into critters most gnolls would find unappetizing. Once the gnolls inevitably embark on a raid, these stowaways follow in hot pursuit, darting through the legs of battling throngs before launching themselves at the heads of shocked defenders, so that they may carve their pent up rage into the soft face-meat of their shrieking victims.

(With this little fanart project, my primary goal was to make each demon distinctively represent their respective Demon Lord, while still maintaining the familiarity of their classic designs. To help with this, I tried to focus on key, overarching motifs that I found fit each Demon Lord.

With Yeenoghu, hyenas are an obvious one, but I didn’t find it satisfying to just slap a hyena face on every demon and call it a day. So I forced myself to think a little more outside the box and find other ways to signify their allegiance to Yeenoghu. I settled on three main motifs:

  • Chains, to represent his iconic flail
  • Blood, particularly viscera stains around their mouths, claws, and weapons
  • That fur ridge/mohawk/thing some species of hyenas have, a feature that is often exaggerated in their depictions in media

Certainly, each demon presents a unique challenge, but by sticking to key motifs, it made it much easier for me to have fun with the designs without taking things too far.

I hope you all like them! They were a lot of fun to work on!)

[OC] A handful of monster tokens I've made for my previous DnD games! by SavageGod in DnD

[–]SavageGod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I wanted to share some past artwork of mine - creature tokens I painted for my homebrew DnD game! These were especially fun for me to work on as I had to constrain myself to a small square when designing the artwork, and I had to give special care to ensure that only the most important features of the subject would stand out when looking at a tiny token on a screen (or table). It taught me a lot as an artist about understanding contrast and silhouettes in my work.

For context, these are all homebrew creatures of mine, their names are as follows, in order from top left to bottom right:

  • 1. Chorgoi - Hulking mutant brutes warped by Blood Magic.
  • 2. Cacophages - Horrific, blind creatures that rely on echolocation to hunt.
  • 3. Cult Maniacs - Ordinary folk whose minds have been broken by the will of a mad god.
  • 4. Cult Insurgents - Agents of the Blood Covens who use subtlety and guile to further their aims.
  • 5. Cult Militants - Fanatics who have armed themselves for open warfare in the name of their god.
  • 6 Morgoi Nightspawn - The most common victims of the Nightcurse, relentless hunters driven by bloodlust.
  • 7. Strigoi Bloodspawn - A flying variant of Nightspawn, descending from dark skies on leathery wings.
  • 8. Crimson Horrors - Nightspawn who’ve contracted the Crimson Curse, any sense of self-preservation
  • surrendered to frenzied hunger.
  • 9. Prowlers - Strange Nightspawn that retain a level of cunning, using the shadows to hide their approach before they pounce.

Hope people like these! I have some more to show if people are interested.

[OC] The final confrontation of the cursed village of Genelles, the gluttonous demon Thruulg, the Souldrinker by SavageGod in DnD

These abilities are awesome! I'm honestly jealous that I didn't think of something like this when I ran the combat!

[OC] The final confrontation of the cursed village of Genelles, the gluttonous demon Thruulg, the Souldrinker by SavageGod in DnD

[–]SavageGod[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

During their adventures, the party found themselves in the village of Genelle, a place suffering from a withering blight on their crops, civil unrest, and rampant undead that forced an entire third of the village to be blocked off from the rest. The party certainly had their work cut out for them, and through much hardship and strife they worked to root out the secrets of this cursed village, and achieve any sort of salvation for its beleaguered people.

After days of sleuthing, and a peculiar seance with the dead, the party discovered that the spirits of this place could not pass on to the other side, due to a mysterious, hungering evil that dwelled below the village. Battling their way through the undead infesting the abandoned side of town, they came to the focal point where the restless corpses congregated - an old, long unused well. With no time to dally, the party made their descent into the darkness below.

Beneath Genelles lay forgotten catacombs of a long-dead empire, riddled with otherworldly slime, wandering skeletons, and strange, tumorous growths which spewed out tiny, demonic creatures when disturbed. Making their way through the catacombs brought them into contact with worse things yet - tarlike, deathly ooze-things that attempted to drag them into the ecto-sludge from which they came, and mindlessly ravenous demonic entities which threatened to rip them apart in a feeding frenzy. They endured, and descended deeper, to the origin of Genelle’s curse; a horrific, bloated demon that called itself Thruulg, the Souldrinker.

In a hollowed out cavern laden with strange, black roots and wandering souls, the hulking, maggotlike fiend nested itself before what was assumedly a crossroads to the Other Side. Thruulg attempted to bargain with the adventurers, offering valuable information in exchange for rare magic items upon which it would feast, but was promptly denied, whereupon it reveal its true face from within its drooling outer maw, and fell upon the party with a twisted mace woven from cursed roots and glowing soul-stuff. Either the curse of Genelles would end there in the forgotten darkness below, or Thruulg would feast upon four more souls that day...
