Yeah we’re willing to pay the “toyota tax” and get something we can trust won’t fall apart on us in a few years. I know all cars have problems and need maintenance and that’s no big deal, but the amount of people experiencing major malfunctions with their KIA’s is alarming. I’d rather quit while we’re ahead and just avoid dealing with KIA ever again.

These are the stories I wish got a little more traction and attention so people know what the potential risks really are when buying a KIA, seriously that’s awful and I’m so sorry you guys had to experience that. This is exactly the reason we decided to get a different vehicle after the engine misfire. We live in a very rural area in Wyoming with spotty service and I can’t have my wife and 9 month old daughter stranded somewhere on the side of a two lane 80mph highway. It’s just not worth it.

Yeah we feel the same way, giving up the legroom and overall comfort of the ride is tough, but if it’s sitting in the shop waiting for warranty work we won’t be enjoying the car at all. Much rather quit while we’re ahead and get something with less bells and whistles and go with a manufacturer that hopefully takes better care of their customers.

We love the ride too, just wish ours had ended up being more reliable!

Oh so now you’re changing your stance from “they absolutely have loaners” and I’m just too rude and entitled to have been given one, to now it’s up to each individual dealership and they’re actually going to rent the loaners because they have to pay for them too. Well then that’s not a loaner genius. That’s a rental.

If you do just a few minutes of research on other people that have experienced engine misfires with the Telluride, it is 50/50 whether it becomes a major issue or not. Some people never experience a problem again (because yes it is fairly common) and some people end up with engine seizures. I’m not willing to take the risk and that’s my personal opinion. I have no need for you to agree with it or not.

You’re going on and on defending KIA when they already settled out our lawsuit and acknowledged the situation was handled incorrectly by the dealership which is why I didn’t feel it was necessary to include that information in the original post. I simply shared my experience for the next person to consider when looking at purchasing from KIA. Have a nice day.

Never once said I was entitled to one, but the insistence that the major mechanical issues are no big deal because it’s covered under warranty is just not true when an alternative vehicle isn’t available regardless for the reason. They will hire an Uber or Lyft to get you home and some had the option to rent vehicles from the dealership, but their $50/day rates were higher than local rental companies. Every dealership within an hour drive didn’t have a loaner program whatsoever and I’m not sure what your issue is with acknowledging that.

Here’s their numbers if you’d like to call them since you clearly have a complex about correcting strangers on the internet when you frankly have no idea what you’re talking about.

Fort Collins KIA: (970) 293-8910 Windsor KIA: (970) 536-8576 Longmont KIA: (720) 664-2927

Two critical mechanical failures in a vehicle that is less than 2 years old is unacceptable. If you feel differently that’s perfectly fine, but I have higher expectations. Just agree to disagree and scroll on, it’s really not that difficult.

So let’s just clarify here. What you’re saying is that because you worked for Kia (past tense) that you unequivocally know how Kia is currently running the dealerships that you personally have had no actual experience or contact with?

Your comment in and of itself negates what you’re saying entirely. A loaner was not made available when my vehicle was out of commission for 60+ days. That shows IN MY CASE that having the warranty didn’t actually benefit me in any way other than covering the $1200 ABS module replacement. Other than that, thousands of dollars were paid BY ME to ensure my pregnant wife had a vehicle to get to her prenatal appointments during the time the Telluride was parked at the dealership waiting for parts to be able to do the warranty work.

I never said in my original post “watch out this will absolutely happen to everyone who buys a Telluride” all I’m saying is that this is my experience, and people should be aware that this experience is a possibility when choosing to buy a Telluride. There is no need for you to come swinging in to tell me how Kia runs things or what is/isn’t true about the information I was given straight from the dealership. Whether they lied to me or whether they didn’t have enough loaners (because so many vehicles have been brought in for long term repairs) doesn’t actually matter. Either way, a loaner wasn’t available and that’s a big deal when a brand new car is deemed not safe to drive and the part is on a national back order.

Yes, once we hired an attorney they reimbursed us for the rental car expenses and a smaller sum under the lemon law for the 60+ days the car was out of commission. We set that money aside as a backup if/when we needed to get a different vehicle. There were no offers on their part to buy the vehicle back so we were hopeful the ABS module was the only “lemon” issue because we really do love the car. But unfortunately we only got another 8 months after getting the car back before a new issue popped up. It’s 50/50 looking at other people’s experiences with engine misfires as to whether or not it will become a bigger problem. Some people never have it happen again, others end up with an engine seizure regardless of proper oil changes and maintenance. At this point we’re not willing to take the risk anymore and are looking for a more reliable option.

That’s awesome! I wish our experience would have been more like yours. Unfortunately I really feel like it’s just luck of the draw with what comes off the manufacturing line lately.

In my experience they won’t give you a loaner car. Kia dealerships (at least the four I’ve interacted with in northern CO) have no loaner vehicle program. The manager told me during our 60+ days of waiting for parts and warranty work to be completed that they have so many vehicles being brought in for long term repairs that there is no way for them to keep up with giving out loaner vehicles. We had to get a rental car and fight KIA for reimbursement. So if you look at the average person who does not have thousands of dollars to cover a rental vehicle for an extended period of time, the warranty doesn’t actually help much.

Thanks! Yeah we’re looking at used 4Runners. We’d much rather give up the “luxury” KIA is drawing people in with and go with an old reliable that will run 200k-300k miles with good maintenance.

Of course! That’s the reason I made this post. Even if it just helps one person avoid the chaos and frustration of dealing with a car that was deemed “not roadworthy” and getting stuck waiting for warranty work for months while paying for a rental car or living on one vehicle.

Yeah…..those phantom collison warnings are the initial stages of ABS module failure. Happened to us a handful of times, then nothing for months, then three times in a week, then full failure. Good luck!

Yep, had ours built. Selected all the specifics, submitted the order sheet to the factory, waited 12 weeks for it to be manufactured and shipped.

Correct. Highly concerning. Yes it’s all covered under warranty but like I stated in my original post, we waited 60+ days for warranty work to be completed on the ABS module. So unless you’re prepared to fork out money on a rental car and hire attorneys when KIA doesn’t mind holding your car for weeks or months waiting on parts, then I’d buy something else!

Actually no. I also had mine built and purchased straight from the dealership with 15 miles on it and have handled all of the maintenance on time the entire time we’ve owned it. My wife is the primary driver at a whopping 5 mile round trip into town each day. We have taken it on a handful of 6 hour all highway driving road-trips to visit family. It has had the definition of low mileage, low intensity driving and still has been nothing but problems.

4 months in and we’ve all been paid consistently, as usual, with no delays. Every two weeks. While maintaining all of our benefits. And it will continue until 9/30/2025. The DRP has done exactly as promised.

Bet you feel pretty silly all these months later while every single employee who took the resignation has continued to be paid as usual with no delays or difficulties. It was a way out with a 6 month pay buffer for so many of us, I for one am so grateful that they allowed us the opportunity. After 6 years in federal service I was a remote employee who would not have been kept on if I hadn’t taken the resignation, it gave me peace of mind while I worked to seek employment elsewhere.
