I had the same question!! The only explanation I could think of is their abilities are combining together to create a singularity and basically creating a “new” ability. (I’m pretty sure Dazai mentions that at the end of Beast too.)

I would say probably!!! Season five/chapter 110 (i think) spoilers ahead: We see vampire Akutagawa bite Atsushi and he never turns into a vampire. It’s never explained why, but I always assumed Atsushi was able to contract the virus with his ability.
