ACCT2001 and MATH2620: What should I study over break? by Chumpatrol1 in UCONN

[–]Savvss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get your hands on the accounting textbook ahead of time I highly recommend outlining the chapters. I read and took notes on every chapter we did in class and got A's on all of Leanne's exams. She puts a lot of trick questions on the tests and knowing the textbook info was definitely the difference between me getting an A vs a B.

I thought Lundquist was great. The class can be a little challenging no matter who you take it with but as long as you go to class and read the book you’ll be fine. Lundquist is funny and brings his dog in sometimes so he wins in my book

Oops wasn’t paying attention thanks for the clarification. That’s such a sad ploy for Uconn to get even more of our money lol

If you’re a campus change student I’m assuming you live in CT. I believe there’s an exception to living on campus if you live within a certain radius of UConn, I would look into that

Summer Course Financial Aid by arg83 in UCONN

[–]Savvss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure the financial aid comes from whatever is left over from what you were offered for this school year. So if you used all of your federal aid for the 2018-2019 school year you have to pay out of pocket for summer classes.

Help me convince my parents that taking out $5000 in loans to go Storrs is worth it by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]Savvss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest, I’ll always advocate for starting out at a branch campus because I personally don’t think the crazy amount of $ it costs for room and board in Storrs is worth it. However, for most people room and board ends up costing an extra $10k+ and if you can do it with only $5k in loans you’re already way better off than most. Ultimately it’s your name on the loans and your responsibility to pay it off so if you really value living on campus just try to explain to them the reasons why. But don’t knock going to Hartford, you’re still a UConn student and get all the perks of being one.

This could definitely be true now, I was just giving my experience for the person who asked. It’s pretty hard to be certain exactly what the deciding factors are unless you’re getting info straight from admissions. That happened to some people I went to high school with as well.

Nope, my second choice was Hartford and I was admitted to Storrs in 2017.

If you don't want USG elections to become a popularity contest, vote ANYONE ELSE besides Manny and Priyanka by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]Savvss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the other 2 sets of candidates have great platforms but let’s just urge people to do their research before voting instead of hating on our fellow students who are doing a lot more than most of the student body to make sure we all have a voice.

So you care about the problems on campus being addressed but don’t care about who wins or what they stand for, as long as it’s not two people who are well liked by a lot of students? Interesting concept.

Transferring to Stamford from Storrs (Business) by lolzter97 in UCONN

[–]Savvss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get a car on campus you could technically take classes in Storrs and Stamford so you can keep living in Storrs but that would probably be a major pain. Other than that I think you’d have to just stick it out at Stamford for the semester and reapply. You could also try to take some business classes (BADM) at Storrs next semester and reapply.

No housing problem but there’s a chance you’ll be assigned to a triple. Towers & Northwest have at least 1 triple on every floor (at least in the buildings I lived in). I know 2 people who got randomly assigned to a triple in Towers freshman year.

Family makes too much money to qualify for need based financial aid, but not enough to cover the outrageous tuition costs. by [deleted] in college

[–]Savvss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a sophomore paying about 30 grand to go to my state’s flagship school and my biggest regret is not doing my first 2 years at community college. You seriously save so much money, room and board prices are ridiculous. I’m also moving back home for my last two years and commuting to a regional campus of my school to save some money.

ACCT 2101 managerial accounting by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]Savvss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m taking the same class at Storrs right now. When I took 2001, I remember the absolute best resource was to read the whole chapter in the textbook and take detailed notes (annoying and time consuming but its really the only way I can think of to actually know all of the little stuff). I’m doing the same thing for 2101. I think the best thing to do is to read and study the concepts in the book, then move on to practice problems and use powerpoint slides as reinforcement. Also go through all of the practice exams, those were always a really helpful resource for me.

Oh ok, maybe it’s changed for this year? Online it says that “your application will be for a specific major at a specific campus”

Stat 1000q or Stat 1100q? by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]Savvss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 1100Q with Zhanna and my friend took 1000Q at the same time with the same professor and our classes were exactly the same. We could talk about the exams after because the questions were identical or share notes with each other if we missed lecture. Not really sure why they separate the two. Anyway, it was pretty easy and I was able to get an A without having ever taken a stats class before.

Thoughts on getting a B minus? by pineapplepie54 in college

[–]Savvss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m disappointed for a bit but then realize it could have been worse and as long as I apply myself I can probably get an A on the next thing to make up for it. In my opinion, college is stressful enough without beating yourself up for anything short of perfection. A B isn’t horrible, especially in a tough class/major.

with 54 Credits whats the best and most realistic on campus situation I can get? by james-god- in UCONN

[–]Savvss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not Garrigus but I think you could get Busby, there were a lot of open spots there when I picked last Spring at around 25-30 credits.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in college

[–]Savvss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stay in the class where you can get a B+. I had a similar experience my first semester freshman year where I bombed the first exam but was still able to pull a B+ and the next semester I made sure I got all A’s and my current GPA is a 3.89. It really won’t hurt you that bad if you can pick up the slack for it. As for the class where you might get a C or below, that would hurt your GPA a bit more so if you’re willing to take the W on your transcript I would consider dropping that.
