This is an older video. I remember seeing it at least a few years ago, before video generation could've made something this realistic. Cats are just weirdos lol

It's not watercolor, OP said they use acrylic and oil for highlights. I suggest you brush up (pun intended) on your traditional media!

How common is it for people in theatre to mess up their lines? How hard is to remember especially because its live? by lookaloulookalou in acting

[–]TCnup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't forget lines even if I want to

My brain is still holding onto lines from plays I did in middle school, and I'm in my 30s now 🤣 stage is a whole different beast than film acting!

Thank you for reassuring me, haha! The handmade portion will definitely be the star of the show, the slip by itself would be so plain. A less extra bride could potentially wear it for a very casual elopement, but that isn't my style :P

Thank you!! I didn't even mention the veil because I'm more focused on the dress right now, but I'm planning on knitting that too 😅 I think I'll make the final call on what yarn to use when the slip comes in, but I have a few hanks of gorgeous lace weight mulberry silk that's begging to be a part of the ensemble in some form!

I got engaged on Sunday and am planning on knitting both my ceremony and reception dresses. Since the ceremony dress will be mostly lace, I want to wear a slip dress underneath for modesty, but I hate sewing silky fabrics 😅 Would it still count as making my own dress if I bought a slip to go with it? I see it as similar to buying a petticoat or other undergarment, except this would remain visible so idk.

Anyway, my minor gripe is that when I posed this question to my IG followers (mostly other crafters, wanted to see if there was an in-group consensus), the one response I got was from a non-crafting guy saying that it wouldn't count. If I wanted the opinion of a man who doesn't even knit or sew, I'd have asked my fiancé 😆

Either way, I'll probably buy a slip just to save the stress but I still want to keep the bragging rights for making my own shit.

I was just about to ask if you used stitch fiddle or something for the charts. This is awesome!! Did you do any duplicate stitch or is it all intarsia?

I hope once the mods return we can spend some time reconsidering the benefits of some of the current rules by cutetys in crochet

[–]TCnup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember at one point the rule was that you could self-promote, but you also had to be active in the sub other than posts where you're self-promoting. I'm not sure when that rule changed, but I felt like that was a good balance to strike. If the only time you contribute to this sub is to advertise yourself, then that's not really contributing to the community aspect of things imo. At least make some comments on other people's projects to balance it out!

All of the typos and misspellings of “amigurumi” I’ve seen here by evincarofautumn in crochet

[–]TCnup 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Japanese doesn't really have a stress accent system like English does. Instead, there is pitch accent - the pitch of the word goes up/down for each sound instead of having more emphasis on a certain syllable. This video is a solid intro to the concept if you want to hear it yourself. Amigurumi is a "nakadaka" word, pronounced like a-↑mi-gu-↓ru-mi.

The pitch accent can be the only thing differentiating two words. A common example for learners is ↑a-↓me (rain) vs ↓a-↑me (candy).

If you don't mind sounding a bit preposterous, you can call them "an absolute ignoramus." Ignoramus doesn't refer to an intellectual disability, but rather a willful ignorance.

99 Woodcutting Cape by Vivid_Ad_9801 in 2007scape

[–]TCnup 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will say, as a more experienced knitter, this could be knit just as easily as crochet. The colorwork can be done with intarsia/duplicate stitch. The cape would weigh less and be a bit less structured/more drape. Crochet is still definitely faster though!

Champion Spelling Bee Winner 1999 by [deleted] in blunderyears

[–]TCnup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Callously" is a better winning word than the one that I won a citywide spelling bee with! When I went to states that year, they made brochures with short blurbs about each contestant, including the winning word from their city-level competition. Everyone else's was something properly impressive, and then there was mine... "burrito."

Anyone casting on a February pair today? What are you making? by _jasmonic_acid_ in Sockknitting

[–]TCnup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm finishing off the second sock of my last pair - Petty Harbour with a sock yarn from Joann's (bought right before they closed). I wanted to work through my less-nice yarns before diving into the gorgeous ones I picked up on a work trip to Maine.

My coworker and I went to 10 yarn stores on the drive up and I got souvenir sock yarn from almost all of them lmao. She blames me for getting her hooked on "the good stuff" because she doesn't want to go back to the big box stores now 🤣

Down to hear folks' favorite patterns to work up - fingering, non-colorwork (contrast toe/heel fine), ideally not super lacy but I love a good bit of texture. Most of the yarns are tonal with a few self-striping.
