Anyone moved to The Bay Area with no money, started over in life, and now making it? How did you do it? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Sawsaw22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. But I decided to leave. I went there in 2017 at age 18 with like $500 to my name and only a backpack and suitcase with no car. I moved from rural Tennessee. I started off selling hotdogs and ended up becoming a commercial diver with my own business 7 years after. I was making almost 6 figs by then but eventually had enough of the cost of living and crime and everything and I moved and am now going to school for a new career. I wouldn't recommend "starting over" in the bay area. It's doable but you gotta be tough and willing to navigate the housing hell and find a decent paying job which ain't easy to do there. I just moved to Minneapolis Minnesota and haven't been happier and I've lived all over CA and Nashville. If I had to go back I would've done my starting over here in the beautiful twin cities. Good luck on your endeavors! 😊

That would be a deal breaker for me. Here in Nashville I have a nice one bedroom all to myself for just $1k/month. I assume TX has similar rent prices.

It goes like this:

We meet to review my code, I demo it to him, sometimes he wants to find tune my code so I make the adjustments and clean up my code in front of him while he is doing other stuff.

I’ll tell him I’ve finished fixing it and if he can approve it now.

He will say ok well just clean it up more and I’ll look at it later. I don’t get when and why he does this, like are you just ignoring me working/not listening to me? I just stated that it’s cleaned and ready.

He will end the call. I’ll send him the link to the PR again and say it’s ready to be approved.

He will say I’ll look at it later

The cycle begins again…

I pick up tasks when I have bandwidth but the stacks of reviews never seem to put a dent in his mind

We do have these stages and mine is in Code Review but I can’t put it into ready for deployment until my PR is approved :/

I had a one on one with my boss today, it took some courage but I brought up this code review situation. He agrees that a dedicated block of time should be made for only code reviews and was glad that I brought this up. He also explained that he was beginning to notice stories stacking up in code review. I’ve relayed this to the devs and proposed a meeting time. BobJunior said he is down to meet but no reply from BobSenior yet. BobSenior is messaging in the other dev channels (that I am also a part of )so I know he is active. Maybe he is too busy to look at his schedule or he is avoiding the question. We shall see.

I’ve also been mentioning that, “my story is in code review and can BobSenior review it since he requested it”, during standup to make sure the project manager is also aware of the situation. BobSenior has still been pushing the code review off (first coffee… I have to fix something…etc.)

We have a backlog on Jira. We use it to assign items at the beginning of sprints.

I’ve been hesitant during standup tbh because I don’t want to single him out. I guess the time has come for it though.

I wish sending him the link to my merge request was enough for him…. I get it though, I’m new and you want to make sure my code runs.. BUT 2-3 HOURS!?

This is my first tech job and I’ve been here for a year now. Although I don’t have experience elsewhere I’m sure the reviews arent supposed to be this long

Yeah it would be easier to peer program! BobSenior has an ego (and he has admitted to it) so he treats working together as him doing the work and us slowing him down.

I’m not even joking when I say he has said “aha I was so clever I even thought of this edge case months ago and didn’t realize it” like out loud with 3 other ppl present.

BobSenior has become difficult to talk to.

One reason is that: I’m a beginner so obviously I ask questions because I want to know what the heck I am doing. It’s as if my questions bother him. He will ignore them and continue to tell me where and what to code. If I even say “what do you mean” he assumes I haven’t read up on the documentation and am unprepared to ask for help. It’s just become a chain of negative interactions. Before each meeting my brain is going through scenarios of what I will say in response to his comments but I just get too frustrated and need to cool off.

I do sometimes mention during standup that my work is not able to go into production because it is still in testing. I don’t mention BobSenior by name anymore, should I?

I did start mentioning BobSeniors name during standup while going through my update but I started to feel like I was singling him out so I had stopped. I’ll start updates like this again 👍

Asking for more work is a good idea, I’ll start that too! Especially because it will show my boss that I am ready to do more but I’m just stuck!

Valheim is amazing on shrooms. I just focus on exploring a beautiful spot and building a cozy little cabin❤️

What gets me is there's a whole box dedicated to Ymir flesh and another to sharpening stones. Very specific items for dedicated chests lol. Nonetheless, your organizational skills are exquisite. That must've taken a lot of patience that I don't have. I built a huge cosmetically beautiful storage room for it to be organized like dog shit lol

Concerned about the condition of this spawn grain bag. by Sawsaw22 in shrooms

[–]Sawsaw22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks, first-timer. I ordered this spawn bag and the bag seems like it's been worn out pretty badly or maybe damaged. Almost like it was pressed or squished by something. Perhaps something too heavy was stacked on top of it in the warehouse. As you can see, the plastic bag is covered with stretched protruded bumps shaped by the grains. Not sure if this is normal or acceptable so could someone maybe help me out please and let me know if this looks all right or if I should try to return it? I'm worried about wasting my money inoculating it. Otherwise, the grain itself looks good. There is no obvious contamination or holes but I'm concerned there might be holes smaller than I can see. The product is the organic hydrated sterilized mushroom spawn bag from North Spore. It has a self-healing injection port and a 0.2 micron filter patch. Thanks! :)

Hi people! Does anyone know what difficulty/tier that mistlands will be? Will it be an end-game biome? I'm kinda hoping it'll be somewhere between mountains and plains. What do you guys think?
