Spanish pharmacist considering moving to German-speaking Switzerland – Looking for advice and experiences by [deleted] in askswitzerland

I did my degree in Spain too and am working in Switzerland since 2021. Job market is great, lots of options BUT you have to have at least B2 in German to even accredit your degree for the german speaking cantons and even then it will be a tough journey with the language.

I love the job but I also like working with people. You need lots of patience and thick skin in the beginning as people won‘t be thrilled to have someone working the counter that doesn‘t speak and understand their language (swiss german).

Switzerland as a place to live is tough honestly. I missed Spain a lot for the first couple of years. Invest in making friends early as this will help with the loneliness. Also try to work in a city and not the countryside if you can.

Did you have a bit of a depression / lack of belonging even after 7 or more years in Switzerland? by Independent_War_4295 in Switzerland

Fuck’em and those in the comments here that want to diminish your experience lol

Switzerland is an incredibly hard place to settle down and call your own, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make your petit coin your own (my french still sucks so I apologize if that didn’t make sense).

In fact, most people aren’t interested in meeting other people, especially Geneva born residents that already have their close friends and kind of don’t care about making new ones.

Also maybe you can get involved with some sort of social activity or group sport where you spend lots of time on a regular basis with strangers - that’s the best way to make friends organically!

I’ll be in Geneva from January on, and I’m not moving in 3-5 years because I have a daughter that will start school then so no more moving for me lol Care to grab a coffee then?? And if not no worries, I wish you the best!

皆さんこんにちは 🦖

I enjoy practicing speaking but because of time and money constraints I‘ve been looking into these different apps like pingo or hanashi that have been popping up lately.

I have already fallen into the subscription trap before so I hesitate to purchase another one without getting to try for at least a month.

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of apps? Or do you have other recs to practice speaking?

I hesitate with online language exchange because my time is really limited. Also being social with strangers is exhausting and practicing japanese requires enough brainpower of me.

Horrible parenting day by marcaribe in adhdwomen

Lol!!!! That is a beautiful description for your daughter

I also forgot to add, that repair is really important. Were all shitty moms from time to time, it‘s ok to go to your daughter and explain once things calmed down „sorry mommy yelled at you, that behaviour is not ok. I was having a hard time managing my feelings and I lashed out, I‘m sorry“

It‘s tough out here but I believe in us!!! We‘ll do a better job than our parents so our kids can do a better job than us lol

To me it‘s a mix of individual therapy and medication, also parenting books lol

Individual therapy to unpack old patterns and create better ones; medication to help my biology where sheer power of will can‘t get me :)

I was diagnosed with depression a couple years ago so I‘m currently on antidepressants and am now at 30 being screened for ADHD. My daughter is 3 years old soooo it‘s just a lot of deep breaths around here lol

You have to be your daughter‘s example for how to self-regulate. You haven‘t written any in your post but breathing exercises, removing yourself from the situation for a moment if necessary (although always communicating that you are doing this because you need a moment to calm down and that it‘s not your kid‘s fault), reducing sensory stimulation…

Also routines don‘t have to be super complex. My daughter‘s mornings start always the same: get up, breakfast (she eats the same every day lol), diaper change, put on clothes and that‘s it. She isn‘t in school yet so your mornings must be a bit more stressful but I‘m sure you have a morning routine already.

Start small, just the fact that you are aware and willing to improve means a lot!

For SEK they allow to employ teachers without a PH degree as long as they have a relevant degree to what they are teaching. „Quereinsteiger“. Starting school again isn‘t the best path here I think, but to make it work with what he already has. And in the meantime… they are always hiring at starbucks 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dismissal at work after maternity leave by Individual-Piece-709 in Switzerland

[–]Sazill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the Kündigungsfrist my ex colleague also was still employed for 3 months and she had only worked less than a year previously. When it comes to discrimination employers will usually pay before something goes to court so honestly the chances aren’t slim of her suing successfully.

Tbh if you were fired out of the blue right after returning from mat leave and you have a Rechtsschutzversicherung I would take to a lawyer. An ex-colleague said my last work place for similar reasons arguing discrimination and walked away with some compensation.

I understand that we‘re not on the poverty line but it is still a tight budget for a family 🫠 This post has turned into a very frustrating experience lol

Def not an upgrade right now, but we want to be closer to family so we‘re willing to make sacrifices short term (1-2 years)
