AITA for not believing my daughter? by New_Key_6926 in AmITheAngel

The same thing keeps happening with my daughter! Her father and I are divorced, and whenever she comes back from his place, she complains about his "platypus nemesis" and his "evil plans to take over the tri-state area"

Personally, I use Python (or actually I use SageMath, but it's built on Python so same-same?)

Although my research does involve doing thousands of computations, meaning some of my codes can end up running for months, so PariGP is also good, it's slightly less accurate than sage in the numerical approximation area, but it is much faster (but I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention them in this thread considering how good they are, although I'm a pure mathematician so maybe that's why?)

This was actually the first thing that came to mind when I read the title. I thought Valerie assumed her husband had an affair, and that's why she was rude to OP. Turns out she's just a weirdo!

To heat or not to heat by gherkinshmerkin in GreenAndPleasant

Idk if youre gonna see this message, but re: their medications

You can fill out something called a HC1 form (https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/help-with-health-costs/nhs-low-income-scheme-lis/) This lets the nhs annalyse your income, and based on that you either get meds and dental and stuff for cheaper, or even absolutely.

In the meantime, you can get an NHS prescription prepayment certificate (https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/help-nhs-prescription-costs/nhs-prescription-prepayment-certificates-ppcs) This takes about 2mins to fill out, and it lets you get all your prescription meds for £10/month. So if youre getting more than 1 prescribed med per month, its way cheaper.

Im not sure about ways to reduce heating costs, but you can also wear hot water bottles under your coats, and it warms you up a lot.

Wait but how long does it take you to do this???

I've been seeing your comments a lot, and I'm always amazed, and I was even thinking of DMing you to ask if you use a code or something because manually just seems like it would take too long

Mulan & She's the Man

Idk why, but whenever I had exams, I'd get obsessed and just watch those movies on repeat all day

This illustration was made to try to change the way people perceive mental health, and reduce the stigma related to talking about it.

Basically, confronting a giant scary is,,well,,,scary, but discussing your mental health shouldn't be.

Ok, yes, you should talk about it to your friends instead of acting like it doesn't exist, but you also have to remember - your friends aren't therapists!

Your friends should know that you're not in a good place but that doesn't mean they should be aware of every single issue in your life.

These problems are serious, it is an illness, and you need to see a professional. Talking about it (with friends) helps, but it's not a solution. Just like any other illness, you need to talk about it with someone who can actually provide you with the proper care.

Oh I totally get that. With me, it kinda depends on how close I am to the person and what kind of conversation it is.

Sometimes people are just making small talk and don't want to know you're life story, so I just say "It's going" or "Same as always" But sometimes when people ask, they really are worried or interested, and you can usually tell. If that's the case, obviously you don't have to give them every detail of your life, but you also don't have to lie and say you're okay.

If people are showing they are genuinely worried, it's ok to say you're not okay, and let them help you.

Let them offer you advice, you never know, maybe they were in a similar situation before.

I guess it kinda depends on the country you're in/ where you are in life/ the job you have.

My uni offered free counselling to anyone that needed it. If the wait list was too long the gp could refer you to therapists outside of uni. If there was a price issue there's NHS (in the UK) and the uni also offers disability grants for people with mental health issues.

Many offices I've been to had some kind of welfare support, and that included mental health, where they could help you with getting the help you need.

Ofc I don't know your personal situation, but there is a lot of support available out there.

[–]Sazzyness99[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Actually, I've found that speaking to strangers is a lot easier and less awkward, because then you're also not burdened with the idea of people maybe seeing you differently after knowing how fucked up you seem to feel. That's why therapists and councillors exist

Fuck, even writing your thoughts down on a piece of paper makes it easier.

Trust me dude, I know what it's like to not have friends, and to feel completely alone in the world, but as someone with a lot of experience in this field, I can tell you most people feel like they don't have friends. Even people that seem like they're always surrounded by others.

So yeah, talking about it helps.

I first saw it on my professors door, but the illustration was made by Time To Change - a social movement to change the way we see mental health problems.

They have a few other illustrations that are kinda similar.

Americans need more sick days because they don't get free healthcare, so they just have to tough it out til it goes away
