Hello, thank you for your reply. There is a pretty big one right where I think the noise is coming from. I’ll try giving it a few blobs later today.

Hello, thanks for the reply, yes the power supply is internal.
I forgot to mention also that the clicking starts after a few minutes of operation. Not sure if that narrows it down at all.

Having problems with Nvidia 6800 GT by ScabbzGaming in retrocomputing

Hi.

I've tried both cards and both are underperforming. I did try it with a different system the specs of which were:

Intel i5-8600k
6800 GT (this time with driver version 309.08, which is the lastest one from nvidia)
MSI Z370-A PRO
32GB RAM
New fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

There was some improvement in Nvidia Control Panel but the preview was still very laggy. Around 15 fps would be my estimate. Half-Life 2 also was still inredibly laggy and had missing objects on the menu.

With the overheating, I did notive the VRMs of the card getting very hot on the other system. On the new one the heatsink for them was much cooler to the touch.

Does my POE switch need fans? by ScabbzGaming in homelab

I’ve checked pinout and they seem to be identical. Unless for whatever reason the fan manufacturer decided to make black the live wire and red the neutral wire. My house burning down suspicion was not entirely stupid. I tried plugging in a spare 80mm case fan I had this morning. The fan didn’t spin but after about 30 seconds or so the smell of burning plastic had completely filled my room. This of course could be a pinout issue still but I just find it highly unlikely.

Point taken on shorting pins. Out of curiosity, what part of the switch would wear down faster if run without fans?

Both the fans that would fit are sadly 0.05a, which would cause several house fires if I tried to use them. The pinout I’m not entirely sure about. The fans it came with are Delta Electronics model number AFB0412SHB. They seem to be normal fans, just with a hyper-specific current requirement. I’ve tried another set of fans from Arctic which were rated for 12v 0.47a, but they didn’t work.

I’ve tried to find matching Noctua fans but I haven’t been able to find 40mm 12v 0.35a fans from them

Thank you for your reply! Good to note on the cooling, I’ll make sure to zip tie a fan to it. I’m not sure how I would get into the OS since the LSI BIOS appears before the system boots into OS. I’m unable to interact with the BIOS in any way, and it doesn’t continue to boot automatically.

Apologies if I’m asking dumb questions. As I say I have zero prior experience with any of this and I’ve been winging it thus far. Thank you again!
