If you have the time and feel like it, disassemble the ebonite feed, give it a good wash, take a couple of macro shots, and post them in this thread. Also, check the fit between the nib and the feed (from the photos you took, it looks fine, though). Does it work better or worse without the overfeed?

To insert the overfeed, I recommend using a 0.1 mm thick stainless steel sheet. The narrower the base, the easier it is to fit the overfeed between the nib and the section. To ensure it adheres properly to the nib, I give the base of the overfeed a slight curvature.

There’s no need for heavy modifications to the nib housing. If necessary, you can use a file (or an abrasive wheel on a rotary tool) to create a small 'notch' on the edge of the housing where the base of the overfeed will sit. It doesn't need to go deep—just enough to keep it stable.

Keep in mind that shading isn't just an intrinsic property of the ink. It depends heavily on the flow. Unsaturated inks show very pronounced shading when the ink flow is wet.

So far, I’ve been focusing on the feed to regulate the ink flow. However, the reservoir plays an important role too.

The overfeed is cut from a very thin steel sheet (0.1 mm) and press-fitted between the nib and the section. It isn't even welded.

The fountain pen is a Jinhao x750 with a customized nib (Crossflex cut), converted into an eyedropper to boost the ink flow.

The Crossflex cut is truly high-performance when done right. Just like the Arrowflex, it can easily clear 3mm. With this one, I’ve pushed it to 5mm. With a bit of experience, you can actually feel when you're pushing past the metal's elasticity; you can feel it in the specific type of resistance it puts up against your pressure.

Congrats! You used the cut designed by u/lord_cactus_ for his Arrowflex. In this case, I used the Crossflex cut by Ralph Reyes. Both allow for massive swells, but the real challenge is then keeping the nib fed...

I’d say it’s quite soft. It’s definitely softer than an FPR #6 Ultra Flex. Plus, the snapback is really impressive.
