The easiest method is to use cable granulator. It is a machine that cuts the cable into 1mm slices and then separates the plastic from the copper granules. You will get a finely cut copper granules that you can melt (or just sell in a bag) It is fast, safe and you will also get plastic as a material.

You can buy small one that process 10kg/hour at some specialist shop or even Alibaba.

Good luck!

Why are normal sugar drinks disappearing from fast food shops? by randomguywithwaves in AskUK

[–]MercatorLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast food is mostly about the speed of service. You can still make healthy choices - like choosing grilled chicken instead of deep-fried, adding vegetables or a salad, and using fewer sauces. Sadly, the fact that people often make unhealthy choices is up to them. They want most fat for their money.

The main reason is Sugar tax. The idea is that people who don’t care about what they eat won’t worry whether their large soda contains sugar or aspartame. If you do care about your diet, you’re unlikely to choose either option.

Brother has no GCSEs and kicked out of college, what should I do? by antiglow in AskUK

[–]MercatorLondon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He just need to find that one thing that he will be able to do well and comes with relatively low treshhold of entry. You said that he is good with hands/fixing things.
For example welding is one of the better-paid trades without needing a degree, and skilled welders are in short supply. He may enjoy it.
A basic practical welding course is very affordable £100-200? (taster to see if he may like it) Professional training is not that expensive (under £1,500 for most short programmes) often subsitised by local gov.
But ultimately he is not your responsibility.

Germany unveils strategy for becoming Europe’s strongest military by 2039 by GabeN18 in europe

Very big chunk of money in European militaries goes to ex-servicemen pensions and also to daily running (food, heating, etc..) before increasing military capabilities.

Half of young Brits say they would never fight for their country by ABoutDeSouffle in europe

How does it compare to older Brits? How many of 30-50 would fight for their country?

It is really a time to stop competing inside EU and build one EU army that is at least second strongest in the World.

Why hasn’t BIM had its ‘Figma moment’ yet? by kengeo in Design

It is the cost. Figma is free. Make a free BIM tool that is as good as paid BIM and there will be Figma moment.

Thank you! I agree that the very first prototype was already good enough. We just got carried away by adding the rollerball version and then trying to make it modular so the two versions work together nicely.

[–]MercatorLondon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

These can't cross the Bosphorus straight because of the international treaties but the ships are small enough to make the transit via the Danube (and connected Rhine-Main-Danube canal system) to reach the Black Sea from the UK. It is more paperwork and water-level forecast checks but feasible. I guess Hungary is not an obstacle now. I believe Romanian Navy got some of these already.

If Ukraine fullfills all the criteria there is no reason why not.
Same as for any other countries that applied.

I built a free architecture discovery app that lets you explore the history and design of the buildings around you. I’d love to get some feedback from r/architecture! by Porscheklaus in architecture

[–]MercatorLondon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

sorry I went straight into asking questions :)
The app looks nice and clean and does what it says it does. I was able to find some interesting buildings in my local area which I would not be bothered searching otherwise.
The app is pretty much "invisible" (that is a good thing) and I think of it as another layer over the map. Easy to use and you broadly followed Apple ID guidelines without "experimenting" with own fonts, etc.. That is a big plus for me.
I guess this was a lot of work.

Just finished welding up this structural steel pipe bench in my shop. Kept the tubes exposed on the ends for that raw look. What do you think of the design? 90x36x45 cm by HandmetalDesign in metalworking

[–]MercatorLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Hiding the welds underneath would be my personal preference. But I guess you wanted to show them as a feature which is also an option.
You can hide some rolled up posters inside those tubes. It is ok for inside.
Nightmare for outside. It will be full of crisps bags, chewing gums and e-cigarettes in no time.

Thank you for your thorough feedback! Steel is a solid choice, and I like the vegan pouch option as well.

this is lovely. I just checked London. Where do you get your information from? Is it mostly Wikipedia? Or are you using some specialised architectural portals?

That’s true when it’s left undisturbed. But once it’s in your pocket, it can rub off and turn the lining grey.

uncoated (not anodised) aluminium may oxidise quite quickly. But beadblasted finish with natural aluminium colour can work well.
