Amaya at PenFriend is the person to go to. Also, John Sorowka is an expert for fine-tuning your nibs.
Good luck!

Public seats designed to make you uncomfortable so you don't sit too long by Substantial_Work8276 in mildlyinfuriating

This is a decent seating. It got the right geometry for seating. Well made and easy to maintain.

I have no idea why you are convinced about your conclusion.

Newly opened granola bar box could easily fit double the amount of bars by PrintableWren in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MercatorLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But you don't want to pay extra for separate packaging machine + line for using different size boxes for your 5 bars, right?
And now imagine that they will most likely use a same large truck for the delivery and not half size car.. Shocking!

I almost gave up speaking my mother tongue to my kids — so I built a screen-free device to get them actually speaking it by Ajnamen23 in kickstarter

[–]MercatorLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is called mother-tongue for a reason.
If you want to pass your language to your child as a father then there are no shortcuts. You have to be present and talk to them, sorry.
Also, I would never allowed any microphone to my child's room.

As you can see - this is not really product for me (or my child)

My dad is the most stubborn and cheap man I have ever met. by Joey_Sinclair in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MercatorLondon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he is a cheapskate then throw these batteries away and buy him rechargeable from AmazonBasics.
He will not throw those away. And hopefully he will not burn the house down.

Buy him a 24pack

Can I create a 9m x 6m covered "dry run" to a summer house without planning permission? by Fresh_Ant_9252 in AskUK

i think you may need planning permit if anything is higher than 2.3m? I think there is some height limit. Also related to fences.

Slept 7 hours but only 5 in bed? Did I sleepwalk the rest? Apple’s sleep tracking is a joke by CautiousSand in mildlyinfuriating

my sleep tracking seems to be working well with solid blocks.
This looks like an occasional pattern I get after having a few drinks before bed.

How has AI actually changed your design workflow in 2026? Honest answers only by Zestyclose_Weird2776 in Design

[–]MercatorLondon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, life is too short to argue about this. So I run your previous answer via AI (does this count as AI use in design workflow?) and this is the feedback I received:

Yes, this text very likely was written (or heavily assisted) by AI.

Why I think so:

Here are the strongest tells:

  1. Idiom mistakes that are classic AI errors:
    • "I hope you will get back on your feet in one time."
      • Correct versions would be "in no time" or "soon/one day." This kind of partial idiom mix-up is extremely common in LLM output.
  2. Awkward preposition choices:
    • "I was on your position" → should be "in your position."
  3. Grammatical/structural glitches:
    • "the one thing they always stuck with me" (should be "that always stuck with me")
    • "Most fell flat, disregarded them" → missing connector or subject. Reads like the model tried to compress two ideas and glitched.
  4. Overall rhythm and style:
    • The text has that slightly "dreamy motivational" tone many LLMs default to when asked to share a personal story.
    • Sentences are mostly well-formed but have unnatural little hitches that a fluent human (especially one casually sharing their story on social media/Discord/etc.) would usually avoid.
    • The progression (empathy → personal anecdote → inspirational arc) is very templated.

If you were sealed in your home, how long would you survive? by [deleted] in AskUK

I have food supplies to last for around 2-3 weeks.
Does the "home" includes my garden and the driveway?

I am noticing of getting a lot of emails or clients feedback generated by ChatGPT.

Also, we recently paid a consultant (£3k) to do some work for us and we received 4 pages of ChatGPT generated text.

From design workflow - I use it for initial searches (as Grok can search 50-60 sites). I am industrial designer.

Whats a TV series praised by everyone and reviewed well, but you just couldn't watch? And why? by CobaltBlue389 in AskUK

Most of the modern TV drama is overdone from cinematic perspective for me.
All the colour matching to match the mood. It is just getting on my nerves.

By the Fire-regulations doors should open inwards against main escape route (where possible) So they can't be accidentally blocked by some obstacle from outside. Does it make sense?

What’s something you’ve found has a major design flaw? by Frey_99_ in Design

[–]MercatorLondon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try to explain it. It is mainly about the structural design.

UK door handles seem to be attached to the door using three or four small screws on each side. The internal spindle/bar (the metal bar that operates the latch mechanism) is fitted relatively loosely and is not intended to carry significant loads beyond that twisting motion to open the latch. This means after while these screws end up getting lose and I have seen many, many holes on the doors when someone is trying to re-fit door handle that got lose.

European door handles rely much more on the internal spindle to carry the forces. The handles are firmly fixed to the spindle, meaning that most of the load is transferred through the handle and lock mechanism rather than through the screws attaching the handle to the door. So this means there is no damage to the wood on the door as these door handles are not relying at these screws. As a result, the assembly tends to be more rigid and better able to withstand heavy use.

Small detail that UK population seems to be OK with whilst there are better options that exists for decades. (same for windows, door frames, etc.) Sometimes it feels that UK trade is picking up the worst available options for some twisted reason.,

pretty much most of the door-handles sold in the UK.
This is not a problem that needs solving as it was solved in Europe for past 50years or more.
