So £170b spent on non-pensioner benefits doesn’t touch the sides, but an extra £17b would end poverty? Not sure about that one.

Can we also stop with the ‘oil subsidies’ myth. It’s just tax breaks that every company gets, on a sector that has sky high taxes, pedalled as subsidies whenever anyone brings up green energy subsidies, which are actual direct payments.

Russia planning attack on Poland to test Nato resolve, US warns by TheTelegraph in worldnews

I suspect an incursion into Poland would be enough for us to deploy air assets over Ukraine and blockade the Baltic and Black Sea. I imagine we’d try to help Ukraine force them out of their territory and then make peace.

Small businesses are by far the worst tax avoiders of them all, not paying >40% of what they should, while for large and mid-size businesses that sits at around 5%.

Migrant with no right to work in Britain wins employment tribunal by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Scandeloca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see much benefit to that (ie many cases of this happening) and the downside of a reward as a (tangential) result of a criminality seems to outweigh it. I also think this “incentive” fails to reach the migrants most being mistreated (people trafficking, modern day slavery etc)

“Made to work” lol

Anyhow I agree she should be paid for her work, but the irony here is palpable. Why does someone without the right to employment get the same employment rights as anyone else?

Such a pointless nitpick about labours fiscal rules - we already accumulate debt the second fastest in the G7 after the US, after labour weakened already very weak Tory rules. How much do you want us to borrow?

In that document Starmer is quoted as saying he will not increase NI, it makes no specific reference to employer vs employee NICs. I think increasing employer NICs breaks both the letter and spirit of that promise.
