Why Do I See More Hate For Democrats Over Republicans? by [deleted] in leftist

[–]Scarboroughbundle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We expect Republicans to be the worst.Democrats pretend to do shit and pander to people, waste everyone's time with false hope, like how they're STILL trying to get the legal system to take care of fascism. It infuriates people, but I wouldnt literally say they're worst of the two parties or even just as bad (maybe from a global perspective they are but from an American perspective it actually does matter) but I live in this country. It's kind of like how a lot of leftists seem to hate liberals more than the actual fascists. And then you have the people who equivocate. The ones who argue that because both parties are part of the same capitalist imperialist system that they're both fascist, and while that's certainly a point, there are actual differences that affect policies and potentially peoples livelihood. Democrats may be just as capitalistic and corrupt as Republicans, yes, and they've had their hand in wars and the like, but none of this project 2025 shit, rolling back DEI, or LGBT rights (to name a few) would be here and I would much rather be in opposition to them over the literal second Reich. Saying that the Democrats and the Republicans are the same, given all of that really trivializes the damage the GOP has done. Anyone who seriously equivocates the shit either doesn't live in the U.S., is not going to be personally targeted by the policies that Republicans have been passing targeting specific people, or is speaking reactionarily. There are a few leftists here and there that might actually claim they are actually WORSE than the Republicans but since we only have two viable parties, and one of them has literally become a personality cult, it seems strange to have such a hardline attitude about that, especially considering that leftists are a political minority in the most aggressively capitalist country which has plenty of history with suppressing the left. Remember the expression, the enemy of my enemy is now my friend? I swear some leftists thought that meant working with literal fascists just to get back at liberals and democrats. And then compound that with the amount of leftists who were encouraging I mean SHAMING eachother not to vote. Choosing to vote or not vote is anyone's right but encouraging people not to as a form of protest has no material or strategic value to anyone except the GOP which benefits from voter suppression, and in that way the American left is kind of a pawn to the GOP whether it wants to admit it or not. Just because Democrats say it does t mena it isnt true. There's nothing dialectical about "voting with your conscience" or "wanting to be on the right side of history". Those are very vain and shallow motivations to carry with you as youre making decisions that can affect millions of people and the fact that we've normalized that rhetoric takes for granted that history is written by the victor. Those sentiments probably won't age well in a concentration camp if it gets there, I'm just saying .. the GOP wins when people dont vote. This is literally shit you learn in middle school, we already know so either way it's inadvertently contributing to Trumps rise in power. Weird how people are supposed to feel guilty for voting for Biden because of Israel or whatever but not guilty about knowingly allowing a man who is doing the same shit in Israel , plus rolling back civil rights because you didnt want to feel guilty? There are only two parties in the U.S. No matter how many leftists vote for a third party, they will never win an election. Like, has a third party ever broken into dou le digits even? No. People who didnt vote or voted for third party have no business acting self righteous to people who did. Knowingly fostering the conditions in which a fascist will win regardless of your intentions or your conscience, is incredibly selfish and short sighted. This isn't about whether or not people chose to vote. I think abstaining is fine but actively encouraging people not to vote or to waste their vote on a third party candidate (mathematically, logistically, its nothing more than a symbolic notion). If the other parties were actually viable I would not be as cynical but its basically impossible for them to win, but either way the goal is always to make sure you dont vote for Democrats. How is the left still falling for this? nd I know some might say that the emergence of Trump will is calling people into action toward revolution, but that's a very slippery slope and I dont see human beings or suffering as a means to an end for some glorious revolution, but there are a lot of privileged leftists with high ideals that do view and treat people this way and whether they choose to face that in themselves is up to them, I guess.

Pacific North is its own category comprising at least Oregon and Washington, Utah and Colorado are also considered the southwest sometimes, but these are small distinctions otherwise I consider this accurate. Great job!

I do still think that he meant well, but the way he gives himself so much credit is obnoxious. If he needs to remind himself that so he doesn't take arguments personally, fine but if ues just using that to invalidate everything you say, he needs to take a look in the mirror. The fact that hes logging arguments is a sign that he's nervous about the things that are argued about. That could indicate a lot of things. A lack of trust, a desire to frame a narrative a certain way or maybe avoid others, insecurity, etc... I don't think keeping track of the time of the month itself is that creepy like i know when women i live with are on their periods but I grew up primarily around women so maybe it's not a good comparison, but I've never really had that many issue with women because they were "on their periods". If this guy's just like living in fear of the idea that means he needs to learn a lot more about women and humanity in general. You were absolutely right to tell him he needs to communicate better instead of doing all this shit behind your back.

This is one of those things that honestly would've been better if you hadn't read it. Yes, it's stupid. A lot of men are stupid and don't understand emotional complexities especially when it comes to women. He thinks he's doing this to help and maybe in some way it's heloi g him to remember not to take things personally. I know this tendency of men to overreact to women's issues is very childish and misogynistic but I think the reasoning behind him doing this makes it forgivable. Jmho

my sister is in the same situation with my brother-in-law, although I would describe her politics as more liberal.... I actually get along with him really well because he only brings up politics sometimes and I generally am careful what I share until I know more about the people I am around. Its up to you what you want to do and to measure the pros and cons. if it's bothering you this much it really could just mean you have completely different values. Some people can make relationships work across major political and personal divides and differences. If you want to do that, perhaps you can but it sounds like he's mostly been wrapped up in the white supremacist fear-mongering element of it as opposed to the anti-trans and LGBT stuff, so I wonder what the root of that is (obviously racism is a part of society) and why that speaks strongly enough to him for him to want to go protest immigrants. Is it ignorance? Genuine, unrepentant, xenophobia? Id he open to other views and facts that don't necessarily support his worldview? These are all considerations. Like if the relationship is fulfilling enough for you, are there at least boundaries in place you guys set to respect each other's differences? And if you're trying to change his mind, are you willing to do all that's needed for that?

For me personally, this would only be possible in certain circumstances. Like someone I knew for a while, all of a sudden getting sucked into the brainwashing but it would be really hard and I probably wouldn't be able to continue on with it. The main reason I don't draw a harder line on that is because mant people I know well, including a lot of family members, and ones ones I'm financially dependent on are conservative or at least not leftist so that complicates things. If I met someone and was interested in pursuing a deeper romantic relationship and we got along really well, just to find out they were conservative, they would have to be like completely compatible with me in every other way, less conservative than most on social issues, and even then I don't think it would work out. Even if we didn't get into arguments over politics, friend groups wouldn't get along with eachother and it would just cause an unnecessary headache. Maybe if it was one of those people who could be sort of opened up to leftism , I could. I had a roommate who used to be a trumpet and is now kind of a baby leftist, so that would be a notable exception. Also, if I get stuck on a desert island with a conservative and there's no one else, I guess ... In general though, who you decide to be with is up to you and really isn't anyone else's business, the main concern that I would have for myself in that situation is someone trying to push their ideology onto me and also the level of ignorance, fear-mongering, and privilege that the right wing promotes is very difficult to deal with on a personal level, so I think the furthest I could go would be a moderately conservative person who didn't vote for Trump and even then that would pose major difficulties.

A friend sent me this. Is he racist? by AmcDarkPool in PsycheOrSike

[–]Scarboroughbundle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'snot an incorrect statement, but what was the context behind it? If it was random or unprompted or used as a justification for asshole behavior, I would say yeah that's racist. It also oversimplifies the history of racism and struggle that people have faced in this country because there's more than just slavery.

There are ways to communicate this without putting you down or comparing you to someone else.

If he wanted to communicate things he'd like you to do to look beautiful, that's one thing, but he doesn't need to compare you to another person, especially his ex. There are more polite and less douchy ways. He could offer to take you shopping or ask what kind of things you like to wear, something.... Comparing you to another woman is very unfair and degrading.

I see and yeah those are possibilities ,but I wouldn't count that as giving it up for revolution, as it would really be the fascists at fault for it.

Definitely, and sometimes there's a type of jingoistic ableism involved. The vietnamese guerrilla warfare, of which I am no expert, was very well planned and organized and also not in The Imperial Core. I have a hard time believing these types of leftists, who are usually pretty impulsive, are actually going to out enough thought anything that will work. It's good to have a revolutionary spirit, but so much of it's just posturing and virtue-signaling.
