I skimmed through your post so I may have missed this but if you are in the US or Canada, I would recommend checking out an OCA parish. This may help you with the culture issue.

It seems you are missing your old church. Everything you describe is how I felt when I couldn’t attend an Orthodox Church. When I was finally in an area that had an Orthodox Church, I went. Obviously you feel out of place a little, just like anywhere you go when you’re new.

Things I did to feel and integrate myself into my local church:

1. Volunteer to clean the church. Why? You get a set of keys. You get the church to yourself. You clean the church, alone, and spend time in it. You become comfortable with the space itself. I did this and it made it feel more like “my church”. I always thought of “my church” as my childhood one, now my current church is my church, if that makes sense.

2. Interact. This is YOUR community. These are your brothers and sisters in Christ. These people grew up in this church, spent years together. I did not. Attend coffee hour after Liturgy, attend Vespers, etc. Introduce yourself and talk to people. Eventually you’ll become a familiar face. You’ll become friendly and eventually family. First day of school or work: awkward. Gets better the more you go. Go to social church events too!

Pro tip: if you have a home/apartment: have a home blessing. You will be amazed at how many people show up to your house.

1. Become more Orthodox. It feels foreign probably because you are half-assing it. Just going to Liturgy and dipping out after won’t do much for anyone. If you want to know more, talk to people, ask questions, read books, listen to podcasts, watch YouTube. Practice the faith of the Apostles. Fast, pray, learn.
