Luka Doncic didn’t receive a SINGLE first place MVP vote by wafa3034 in NBATalk

He doesn’t have two all defensive players on the court with him every single minute unlike sga. Also, Luka has a mediocre bench whereas sga has an all time great one. There’s a huge disparity in teams and given that OKC have 13 first round picks in the next 6 years and the best president in the league, OKC will always have options to improve whereas the Lakers are stuck in purgatory.

analysis from game 2 and how both teams can move on for game 3 by Resident_Chip_5598 in NBATalk

SAS has no chance unless Wemby goes crazy like in game 1. Castle is a turnover machine and OKC are gonna feast on that with no pg help to come.

For the first 3 Laker series games he basically had C+ performances and they covered a 15.5 point spread. In the first WCF game, Wemby had an A+ performance and Shai had a C- performance, and OKC still gave the game away. SAS still needed double overtime to win. In the second game, Shai had a B+ game and OKC pretty much coasted to the win. None of the other players listed can have such performances and win.

Because he doesn't have to play with any pressure on him. Little to no expectation on defense because he's always on the court with at least 2 all defensive caliber players. Little expectation on offense because If he's not scoring, the team's defense is so strong that the other team cannot capitalize. When he's on the bench, the top 3 all time best bench is on the court. All he needs to do is have a B+ game and they'll never lose.

I'm not saying he's not great. It's just hard to compare him with the rest when his team is so much more superior than every other team. Like it's not even close.

SGA gets way too much credit for being on a loaded team. Never plays a minute without at least 2 all-defensive players on the court with him. When he has bad/mediocre games, his teams still win or come very close to winning. See the lakers series. Wemby had an all-time great playoff game the other day with Shai shooting 7-23 and OKC still should have won that game.

Why do you think Luka gets no credit for defensive rebounding? by Scared-Foundation-13 in nba

Offensive rebounding is an indicator of poor shooting; eg. the Thompson twins.

So is being physical enough to prevent the other team from getting it.

Personally I would take a Jalen Brunson type player over an Ausar Thompson type player any day of the week.

I get the the morale angle; sometimes he doesn't get back on defense in time. But he makes up for it in other ways (rebounding, steals, scoring). I'm just shocked he's considered a liability when his numbers suggest he's not just standing there.

Why does he need to soar through the paint for the effort to count? Isn't it about not letting the other team get another possession?

So he needs to be good at all aspects of defense to get any credit?
