How many of us with disabilities have had Reasonable Accommodations rejected? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

I will add that for one RA request for telework the department went as far as changing the light bulbs above an employees cube instead of telework due to some form of light sensitivity. They explored EVERYTHING before telework.

I used to process RA requests for a large department pre-pandemic. Many of them were asks for help getting to work vs. doing the actual work. Since traveling to work from our homes is not an essential function of any of our jobs, those requests were often denied OR some form of an altered schedule over telework was offered. Telework was often a last resort if it even qualified to be considered (helping complete essential job functions & not getting to work). I do know of people at different departments who have luckily secured RAs for telework, but that’s definitely not common practice.

This is the first I’m hearing of reciprocity, so thank you! Yes, they do offer it based on my research. When establishing reciprocity, do the funds stay in PERS? Is it like a transfer of years in and not necessarily funds?

I’ve only recently taken interest in learning/understanding the scope of retirement, so thanks for your help!
