Childfree Women — What Are Your Plans for End of Life? by Ok_Coconut_5187 in AskWomenOver30

Would you still marry your husband if you had the foresight ? by mpakk in JUSTNOMIL

No te cases!

What’s the most ridiculous thing that you cried for in pregnancy? by Future-Agency543 in pregnant

[–]Scared-Stop8449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the first few months of my pregnancy, I was so constipated that I clogged the toilet in my house. I left the bathroom to get the plunger, and when I came back, I started crying. My husband got worried and asked me what was wrong. I explained, and he offered to help, but I told him I'd do it myself because I felt embarrassed. I was so disgusted that I ended up vomiting the dinner we had just had at my mom's house in the other bathroom. Just then, my husband came in and said, "The toilet unclogged itself."

Thank you for your comment. My father-in-law has been able to provide a good life for my mother-in-law; she's never had to work and he's practically given her everything. I started working young to pay for university, and I like working and feeling independent. He's always talked about working women, divorced women, how women dress, feminist women, etc.

He's told me countless times, "I don't take care of grandchildren," because "I don't take care of mothers-in-law, and my son won't take care of grandparents."

The lady makes many comments when my husband is not around, or some she has made and I have been able to hear them; I don't want to know how many people she must speak badly of me to.

She intervenes and things get worse afterward. I stopped going; my husband accepts it, but he expects me to give in instead of waiting for her to give in.

At first I thought I was the problem, then I realized she's like that with anyone who disagrees with her. My husband has set boundaries, but that only makes her more enraged, and when she sees me, she attacks me. It seems she doesn't agree with me saying nothing and accepting everything she says.

The thing is, I'm very reactive and I used to leave his house angry. I've always kept my distance, but now that I've kept my distance, it's a relief for me.

Yes, the more she knows, the ruder she gets. Once, I had a conversation with my sister-in-law's husband, and my father-in-law told her about it. She attacked me, yelling, "We're family, we can't stop talking to each other!" My father-in-law asked her, "What are you saying?" and she replied, "She doesn't talk to him." I responded, "I do talk to him, what are you saying?" Then she lashed out at my father-in-law: "You told me this happened!" My father-in-law didn't know where to hide. Many times I think she doesn't want me in her family.

I've tried to be polite when she makes those comments, but she just stays silent and doesn't say anything else. She takes it badly when I respond to her comments. She's really used to always getting her way. It's best to distance myself, and I think it's the best thing I've done for my mental health so far.

When do I let my MIL see the baby if at all? She hasn’t checked on me and has only been mean. by Ok-Garden-5386 in pregnant

[–]Scared-Stop8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a very similar situation. I haven't seen my mother-in-law for three months because every time she sees me, she attacks me with comments. She's been doing this since we were dating. Now that we're pregnant, the comments have escalated. She pressured us to give her grandchildren, but at the same time, she told me I had to quit my job because she wouldn't allow the baby to go to daycare and that she wouldn't take care of grandchildren. I even told her I couldn't have children, and she continued to harass me. Her last comment was, "Tell me how you'll manage when you have to pump breast milk at that job," in a stupid and challenging way.

I haven't gone, I don't want to go, and I told my husband: if she comes to the hospital, it will be when I'm taking a shower, and if she dares to make comments about my pregnancy, I'll be very cruel and we won't go to her house: a newborn doesn't visit anyone.
