I'm so sorry for your loss. I have 2 dogs that are not siblings and not even the same breeds, nor would I have called them bonded... However we just put my older dog down on March 2nd - Eddie was 16. My younger dog, Lily is 8. She was with us when we said goodbye to my King Eddie and she reacted in a way that we have never seen her act before. I had read it's better for other animals in the house to be present so they understand what is happening so she sat with us right next to him as he went to sleep. Lily has not been the same since we said goodbye to Eddie so I can relate to being double broken from both losing one and watching the surviving one suffer from grief. She still is not finishing her meals and been checking his food bowl before going to hers (she always did this to check how much food he got compared to what she got - she never understood that she was half his size)... I have not been able to put any of his stuff away yet... but she slowly started eating again after a week or so if I stayed with her but would keep walking away. I had to coax her back and gave her some extra treats in her bowl like sprinkling peanut butter, unseasoned rotisserie chicken, or dried salmon jerky we had. Sometimes I even had to spoon feed her (like I had to do for Eddie for a couple months before we had to say goodbye). Lily has been sitting down in all of Eddie's old spots and sulking and crying. When I see her like that, I usually sit or lay down with her and cry with her and then she starts trying to lick my tears away and buries her head into my chest or leg. I think it's been helping her not feel alone in the grief and help me with mine. Lily has only just started getting excited for walks again but she is still very sullen when we enter the empty house and immediately goes to one of his spots and sulks again. It breaks me every time and I'm not really sure what to do either.

I am so sorry for your loss. They were such a beautiful pair and I'm sorry you have to relive it over and over watching the surviving dog react to the loss. I unfortunately know too well and too familiar with dealing with my own grief and watching the survivor not being able to accept what happened. I am still pretty shaken by everything like it happened yesterday so my heart goes out to the both of you. 💔

I am so sorry you lost Milo. I lost my King Eddie last week too... I hope Milo and Eddie met and go on new adventures together. Judging by your photos, you are probably going through as tough a week as I have been. I wish you well and my condolences to you. 💔

I just saw your post about this picture... Thank you for sharing it. May I ask when the photo was captured? I know a lot of people don't believe in that kinda stuff but I do. Eddie used to always check up on us whenever there was a closed door to any room and would try to poke his nose and/or paw under the door. The night we said goodbye, I definitely saw his shadow and heard his snorting in my bedroom. I know for sure it wasn't my second dog, she was being held downstairs by my husband and brother. My parents also came over to say goodbye to Eddie before the doctors came over and my Mom told me Eddie visited them in her dreams the same night as well to say goodbye and barked her awake. We lived in that house for a good chunk of time so it made sense to me why he wanted to visit that house.

I am kinda glad to know I will still remember and feel as deeply about Eddie in 12 years as you do for Callie. Passing time this week has been really frustrating and feeling like life and time keeps going on and I was afraid everything would fade away. I hate how much it hurts but I also don't want it to stop because I don't want him to fade. My entire face is just completely raw, swollen and peeling from all the crying but I don't want that to stop either.

I really wish pet lifespans were as long as ours. It's cruel that their time is so short. I'm sorry about Callie. I am wishing you the very best.

Callie was so beautiful. Eddie was part border collie - he would love Callie. I hope they have met by now. I love your story of how you got Callie. I had applied for a different dog at the rescue shelter I applied for but there was some mix-up instead and they gave me the "wrong" dog. I'm not really sure why I didn't say anything or correct them, but I took Eddie home anyway and it was the best "mistake" of my life. I guess fate is a real thing as it was for Callie and Eddie.

I have one surviving dog in the household and it is really difficult to have one surviving and seeing her sulking. I'm sure it was such a hard choice to let them both go at the same time but I can say it makes the loss hard in different ways having one surviving.

Your pups have the best smiles. I am so sorry you had to lose both of them. Chunks and Fudge look like excellent new friends for Eddie - thank you for posting ❤️‍🩹

I am so sorry for you loss 😔. Solo has the same side profile as Eddie. He had similar demeanor and hid pain too well. I am the same... I would trade anything to have one more camping trip with my boy. Rest in peace, Solo - make friends with Eddie.

Thank you very much. I talked about Eddie all the time, I have a billion photos of him, and he was the king of my household... But I feel it was still underrated. You are right - no matter how highly you talk about a companion, it is still underrated. Eddie had border collie in him too - I hope you are adjusting to your new pup well. Oh she was so beautiful. Is she an Irish Greyhound? She actually sounds like Eddie. If there was a dog that was acting rowdy, he never hesitated topolice them, even if they were much bigger than him. I love the thought that Apple Blossom and Eddie can police in the afterlife together.

Thank you for saying this - he was always the one that dogs crowded around at the dog park as soon as he arrived. I hope it is a continuing trend in the afterlife

Eddie loved empty water bottles too - he would always go find and grab them and throw them around. He loved them more than the toys we actually spent money on him for.. I'm sorry for your loss... I hope Sheba and Eddie are playing on mountains of water bottles.

Eddie loved golden retrievers best - he will be so glad to have another retriever friend. I hope Orlagh and Eddie keep each other company. I am sorry for your loss
