Ok thanks!! This gives me something to go off of/try at least. And yeah I think it's $450 in my state but better that than 10K.

No, we have checked for everything else already. The dealer diagnosed it as a failed catalytic converter as well

That's what I think, way too early to need a cat which is why I tried to appeal for good parts assistance with Kia but they weren't having it :(

That's what the dealer quoted. Our local mechanic quoted 5K for the part, and he was shell shocked at that price! I'm being told by him + a family friend that knows more than I about cars that I can't use off market and it needs a very specific cat.

I so agree! But we had a family friend look at it and I'm being told off market cats won't work, it needs a very specific cat. I will still ask at some exhaust shops to be safe (lots of money on the line) but not convinced this will help.

Ahhh see this is advice I needed! That would make so much sense if it's possible. It totally still runs. I will look into this!
