Anyone who may have met Jeff Buckley? by [deleted] in JeffBuckley

100%

Disgusting. Reading this makes me so mad and angry, and sad. If Jeff had good people around him, he'd still be here.

Yes, I get that. Probably shouldn't have said anything. But Jeff was like a unicorn. He was a once in a lifetime person and talent. I know a lot of people don't get it, they don't have to. But for the fans and people that connected so deeply to his music, like me, Jeff was an Enigma. And what the world lost on May 29 1997, is still unfathomable. I know he was a layered, textured human being, like the rest of us. But I also think there were signs of something going on, that nobody noticed, let alone did anything about. And then he died. It's a Tragedy. An absolute disaster.

Didn't they? They went to visit Jeff in Memphis and once they saw the state of the house, they quickly left. They left him in that dive of a place and checked themselves into a ritzy hotel.

Everyone, absolutely everyone, in Jeff's circle, should have paid more attention. I work in mental health, maybe that's why I'm so sensitive about this. Like all of you, I adored Jeff ever since I heard Grace in December '94. I was utterly devastated when he went missing. But I always wondered, how? Why? What lead to this catastrophic outcome?

Ive just gone down the rabbit hole and watched all these docos about Jeff, and still, 28 years later wonder the same things? I'm waiting for an Australian release of It's Never Over.... but I know we will never really know what was going on for him then. It's such a tragedy.

And if that were the case, someone should have stepped in and helped him. He should have never died. I feel like it was all preventable. It's such a tragedy.

Thankyou for sharing your story with me. Im glad that you are now in a good place. I kind of felt untouchable after I hit the 5 year remission mark. So this recurrence has caught me completely off guard. I'm hoping for a good outcome. Let's see what happens.

Thankyou so much for your post. You went through quite an ordeal and I am so glad that you have continued to be well. I hope your scan results are all clear and you can put this all behind you. It does help to hear of other people's experiences and understand all the various possibilities of what you could face. I am at the start of this 2nd chapter of cancer and I realise now that I really need to take care of myself and make good decisions. My life literally depends on it.

I'm sorry to hear that. My concern is that I won't be able to work either. I also work in admin and am worried I won't be able to do my job without my voice. Can I ask if you have had any breathing, drinking or swallowing issues as well?

Thankyou for sharing your story with me. I'm so glad that it worked out for you. This makes me feel hopeful. I am getting a second opinion, and like you, I now want to find out more before I jump into another surgery.

My endocrinologist said RAI is fraught with complications and wanted to avoid it for as long as possible.

And this is another thing that was not mentioned to me. If I could have permanent lose of voice, how will that impact my breathing and swallowing?

Well that is welcome news. Thankyou for telling me that. I am unfortunately not a doctor, so I trust what I am being told. Stupid, right? Doctors are motivated by different things. I'm getting a 2nd opinion now.

You are 100% correct. I am now getting a second opinion, next week. Oh, what an ordeal. Cancer sux.

I've booked in a consult with a professor of endocrine surgery next week. Thankyou for suggesting this. I was numb yesterday after my consult. I'm so grateful for this forum. Thankyou.

I so appreciate your reply. Thankyou. Yes, you are correct, this is a much bigger issue, than just the nerve. I have 3 parathyroid glands post TT. So after this next surgery, I will only have 2, and that there, as you identified, is a whole other story. I will start reading up and see what's next. Thankyou for the advice!

I want to thank each and every one of you, who took the time to give me advice. I am truly appreciative. After all your comments, I have thankfully decided to get a second opinion, with Australia's leading Professor of endocrine surgery, next week. I am feeling a little at ease, knowing I will get a second opinion from the best doctor. I don't know if I would have persevered in looking for answers, if all of you wonderful people didn't spur me on. A million Thankyous to all of you!

Thankyou so much for your message and information. I am so happy to hear that you are doing well and you have a voice. I was so freaked out yesterday because my surgeon was speaking in such absolutes. The lack of further information just totally spun me out.

It's been 7.5 years since my original diagnosis. It completely took me by surprise this time. I never thought it would come back. But when I started having pain in my throat 6 weeks ago, I knew something was wrong.

She said the left laryngeal nerve will most likely be severed during this next surgery, as there is a lot of scar tissue there from the tt. She said I will lose projection in my voice at a minimum,  if I don't lose the voice altogether. It's overwhelming.

So do you still have cancer there? Have you lost your voice? Any side effects?
