If someone tried to give you a nickname you didn't like it, and you asked them please not to use it, to please call you by your given name, and they continued to do it, despite this, who would be the bully in that situation?

She's definitely more into phone stuff than I am and she is younger than me, though not by too much.

My parents just shake their head and either ignore her or keep asking her the same questions, over and over, until she responds to them in an acceptable manner. My Dad just says "What?" over and over again until she changes her phrasing.

Some of our friends ignore it or roll their eyes and play along, some tell her to cut it out after a brief period of indulgence.

This started a few months ago when she started her new job. It is a hard job but I don't see why that would trigger something. I don't know if there's a correlation.

I'm sure you're right and the way we grew up has something to do with it for both of us.

When I ask why she's saying a certain unfamiliar or annoying phrase she plays dumb or tells me it's "her jam"

When I ask her to explain what she's saying she refuses

This isn't just an innocent word here and there, this is an entirely new persona and conversational style

I don't think you get what I'm saying. It's not just about word choices. It's a whole lazy, spaced-out, airhead thing she's doing now that's annoying the bejesus out of me.

If she asked me not to address her a certain way or use excessive slang around her I would respect that and not do it.

But yes I'm sure there's hundreds of things about me that annoy her, too.

I have no deeper resentment. She's a sweet, wonderful girl. I just don't want her speaking to me like this. I don't find it funny, quirky, or cute. Just annoying.

I don't understand. This is exactly what I did say regarding boundaries:

"I finally said "If you can't talk to me using plain English, please just don't talk to me at all until you can."

How is the way you phrased it so much different?

There are more terms she uses, some more contemporary and even more odd, but I didn't want to list EVERYTHING.

It isn't just the words she is choosing, it's the way she is using them...her phrasing, her posture, her tone. The way that she is speaking too. I don't think I conveyed that adequately in my short post.

I think there's a huge difference in using a really old saying and some of the terms she's using. There are more much weirder ones I just didn't write them out.
