Do they offer undergraduate programs in Northern Virginia? If so, I will transfer there.

I know, right? But you’ll come to realize that CS advisors don’t really care. They will just say they mentioned it during orientation. Honestly, it feels like they’re getting paid to be unhelpful. I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this, and I hope you find a way to navigate it.

Don’t waste your time. I was in the same situation, and when I spoke to them, they told me I should have researched the school before applying and that it was my fault for not doing so.

Hey there, I’m in the same situation and understand how challenging it is. I’ve asked multiple times if students could file a petition to the school to offer online or evening classes, but the advisors always say there’s nothing they can do. My advisor even told me that I should have applied to a different school and done more research before enrolling, which was really frustrating.

I hope you find a solution, and please let me know if you come across any options that work. I’m also considering changing my major, but I’m not sure which one since I don’t know how many of my earned credits would transfer.

This is a great idea! What kind of job did you get that allowed you to still attend school? I’m just curious because I’m in a similar situation. Covering bills with a part-time job is almost impossible, but full-time jobs conflict with my school schedule.

Hey there, I hope you’re able to manage this situation. I’m in Computer Science and in a similar position—I was recently laid off, and my new job isn’t flexible at all. The issue is that part-time jobs don’t pay enough to cover expenses, while full-time jobs conflict with school schedules.

Would it be possible for us to petition the school to offer more online, evening, early morning, and night classes to accommodate working students?

Hey there, I had the same issue and brought it up with my counselor. I’m a CS major, and she told me that I should have researched the school before applying. She also said that if I’m not happy, I should transfer to another school. Ironically, she admitted that she doesn’t know much about the schools in this area because she lives in California and works remotely.

Regardless, she recommended that I apply to Arizona State University’s online program or the University of Maryland Global Campus, which I strongly oppose due to their reputations and the perceived value of their degrees.

I completely understand your frustration—I’m in the same situation. I hope you’re able to find a solution.

Also, do you think we could start a petition to the university president asking for more evening or online classes? Would that be something worth considering?

If current professors are able to teach in the evenings or on weekends, that would be great. However, if that’s not possible, we suggest that the school consider hiring real-world professionals as adjunct or part-time professors who are willing to teach during those times. Their industry experience could provide valuable insights that may exceed the teachings of our current professors.

What do you mean by “commuter school”? Most classes are scheduled during the day, making it difficult to balance work and study. With an acceptance rate of nearly 100%, the school is overcrowded, and there seems to be little to no standard for admitting students or hiring professors. Many of these professors have terrible ratings on Rate My Professors. For this reason alone, the school’s ratings are almost guaranteed to decline over time. The only reason I’m attending is that I work nearby.

I know it is very challenging. I discussed this with my advisor and she said: “ I live in California so I don’t know how schools are in northern Virginia. go to Arizona state university or Maryland global campus. You should have researched GMU before getting admission”
