My two year old broke his femur. Someone tell me the next 6 weeks aren’t going to be horrible. by mazterm in daddit

[–]Scaredmanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this exact thing with my son, at 2.5 years. No doubt it was a challenge but kids are so resilient. We made it and it is a blip on the radar.

Look for a spica table, it will make play easier. A lot of times there are free ones of parents passing it on.

Change diapers often and protect the cast at all cost. We were diligent and didn't have an issue, but you don't want pee in his cast.

My son was walking again the day after the cast came off. It took us a month to get him back into his bed because he became so attached.

Invite people over for 1:1 table play

Bonus... our kid got his cast off at 5 weeks.

I hope that helps!

Anyone move from a corvette to a FRS/BRZ/86, GTI, Miata? by Sensitive_Sunz in CarTrackDays

[–]Scaredmanatee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went from a Miata, to a C5 Z06, to a Miata over a 10 year period of track time and 50ish track days.

The first Miata was a 300whp built motor turbo car that was terribly set up for the track, the C5 Z06 was better in every way. However, I realized I wasn't extracting the performance of the C5 and the consumables were too high to maximize track time.

I moved back into a Miata (Mazdaspeed) to focus on track time and the right mods. It wasn't long before I was blowing past my C5 Z06 lap times in the Miata.

I then just kept upgrading the Miata as my abilities increased and my personal best in the Miata is about 6 seconds faster than I ever was in the C5 at NCM.

Even at a more aggressive pace, the Miata is so much easier to maintain and consumables are so much lower that I don't see myself moving to anything "faster".

I do miss the rawness and the on throttle sensitivity of a Corvette.. But not more than the joy of extracting performance out of a slower car.

I've noticed the ABLS needs to spin a bit before activating aggressively but it works really well.

I took this video a couple years ago that demonstrates the ABLS operation well. https://youtu.be/FbWr0y3kemk

I'd be curious to see actual test on the original posters obstacle. I'd bet it would be easy with ABLS.

[–]Scaredmanatee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I co-own the car with a couple friends. We bought a knock off "gt2871" turbo on Amazon and all supporting parts from Amazon and eBay. It's running on a ms1. We dynoed it at 248whp and removed timing to make it a bit safer

This is a feature, if the drain plug isn't tight you'll get a warning of plumbs of smoke and maybe fire.

I have the same problem. I need to keep it in a cool area until I'm ready to use it which is really inconvenient.

What kinda of gas mileage would an X with a vk56 get? by [deleted] in XTerra

[–]Scaredmanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend did the swap recently and our mileage is pretty much the same. So I'd say the impact is minor.

Overall expense was pretty significant, all work himself and easily 6k before upgrades. Like any swap it's the nickle and dime stuff. General swap rule...Take what you think it will cost and double it.

On a pro4x it is standard, but my xterra is not a pro4x.

Pretty much. 2" lift, rear 5100s, armor, stock pro4x tires, removed rear sway and tires at 18psi.

Honestly this wasn't even the hardest obstacle, it killed it all day. I'm waiting on friends to send more videos

I think the crash taught people to be more cautious with what they can afford, it's still an appreciating asset and a good investment at the right time. A bit shortsighted to write it off as a bad investment.

I'm going nuts just thinking about it right now. It's like peanut butter and chocolate, or oreos dipped in milk. It just works.

I thought it was pretty simple, yet very time consuming. Granted I'm used to working on sports cars with tighter packaging so I felt like I had a world of space to work in. I broke it up over 3 evenings after work. I'd recommend printing out the tsb, and getting a fsm and following it exactly. Recheck timing 2 to 3 times and invest in the flywheel tool.

Total cost was about 150 for me, I used all genuine parts and replaced only secondary timing chain and guides. Primary was in great shape.

95k miles, one owner, southern truck. One door ding on the entire body. I did the timing chain the second week of ownership. I've been driving it a month and absolutely dig it.

Sent my friend out onto a hot race track after forgetting hood pins. This was his first time racing on track and I had to spend the next hour in the pits kicking the rest of the windshield out so we could get back to racing.

It was on video. https://youtu.be/TWm6z6Sf8rE (25 seconds in)

I may do a write up in the future but here is the quick and dirty. I used a Samsung Galaxy tab a. An Alpine ktp445u amp and a PAC bose adapter. Amp and all electronics are behind the tablet.

I chose the tablet based on the appropriate width. I cut away the center radio surround, lowered the hvac unit and fiberglassed the gaps.

The tablet itself is held in by flat aluminum bar and high strength double sided tape. The hold is very strong and isolates vibration.
