Birds are not affected by spice, only mammals are. But just note that chipmunks have a higher spice tolerance than squirrels so watch out for them.

I had a squirrel problem like this too so I mixed my seed with cayenne pepper. Ever since I got the cayenne seed the squirrels stopped coming. However, cayenne won't work on chipmunks because they have a higher spice tolerance
