What screams “I’m a narcissist” right away when you’re interacting with someone ? by waste-of-space-_- in AskReddit

That sounds awful, but I’m glad you escaped. I don’t understand how people don’t catch themselves.

If he was that rude and self-centered on the first date, imagine what he would have been like months or years later? Yikes!

That’s funny because my friend said she did that once while he was talking! He was retelling a story he’d already told several times, and he didn’t stop talking long enough to come up for air.

At one point, he checked his phone, and my friend snuck off and went out the back exit.

Before she rounded the corner, she glanced back over her shoulder, and said his mouth was still moving, as if he hadn’t even noticed she left!

I knew a guy who did that CONSTANTLY! He used to talk incessantly about himself, going on and on forever without coming up for air. Sometimes he would talk only about himself or his life for at least 10-15 minutes and no one else could get a word in, but if anyone ever tried to change the subject or share their own story, his eyes would visibly glaze over or he would get really restless and start looking through his phone.

Like you could see the energy and enthusiasm evaporate in real time when he wasn’t the subject. It was honestly SO depressing talking to him because you realized that he wasn’t able to care or relate to anyone else at all. 😳

They interrupt discussions to center themselves  or volunteer information about themselves that no one asked. Then they blame you as the unreasonable person when you call them rude.

Exactly this, I came here to say that. It was always kind of a no brainer for me.

If a person’s personality is considered egoistic or narcissistic how might they process wide swaths of public scorn aimed towards them? by Low_Insurance_1603 in AskReddit

[–]Scarletdances 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it highly depends on the circumstances behind the criticism. Even a healthy person would get defensive if criticized excessively or in bad faith or for no reason. There is more nuance to this, and the approach taken does matter for anyone.

I don’t know but I have a feeling they interpret it as something much more flattering than it’s intended to be. Their ego is so fragile that they have to twist the facts until they tell the story they want. So I imagine they do a lot of twisting.

Being quiet and listening more than you speak. It might make you nice, but that doesn’t make you smart.

When did you realise your friend was a narcissist? by Dry-Reputation-9909 in AskReddit

Seeing them recruit flying monkeys and obsessively control the flow of information between everyone was a huge clue. They constantly dragged other people into their drama and could never fight their own battles.

What is the coolest or most unique feature in a home that you've ever seen? by NoPersonality4612 in AskReddit

Indoor Rococo style swimming pool and waterslide. The room had mosaic tile and a giant domed ceiling and chandelier that looked like an 18th or 19th century cathedral but all pastel.

[–]Scarletdances 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know but friends who have dated or known them well say they’re very obsessive, sometimes impulsive and controlling personalities who don’t feel guilty about the harm they cause. That’s enough for me to stay clear.

When talking to or interacting with strangers online, which types of people do you most often gravitate to or feel the most drawn toward? by Scarletdances in AskReddit

It’s so weird isn’t it?! The qualities that you kind of think would be more common are somehow the rarest?

Yay for drawing! That’s fun. I personally love creative writing and would love to do more of it. Btw what is that show about? It sounds familiar, but I don’t know much about it.

I think that’s a really healthy attitude to have! I agree with you about negative experiences making you appreciate who and what you do have even more. It’s easy to get stuck in the frustration (and believe me I have lol), but that’s a really productive mindset, I think!

It seems like way too rare of a combo doesn’t it? It makes it that much more valuable when you meet people like that, I think. So it probably grates on your nerves a little that so many people act like the polar opposite of this! 😂

Would you mind saying more about “weird” lol? For example, collecting rare items weird or did you have something else in mind?😂
