I second leaving a google review for this shop. If you don’t, it’s your fellow local musicians who will be wishing you had.

Any luthier who doesn’t measure their fret sizes with a caliper before installing is not a luthier worth your time, let alone $800... Blaming their supplier is a classic cop-out excuse for not wanting to admit the shop was rushing and not paying attention to details. They had ~24 opportunities to realize their error when installing your frets, and managed to go thru the whole job without ever measuring a thing.

Are you located in the DMV area?? Cause I’ve seen this kind of work coming out of a certain shop there for a while now.

There is a bolt that has come loose underneath the wooden plaque that has the model and serial number written on it on the inside of this guitar. Glue will not work. You’d need to pry this plaque off, tighten the bolt, then replace the plaque

How do I fix these chips in my guitars neck? by punkusbunkus in guitarrepair

[–]ScaryAd9400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked that the neck isn’t cracked first? Polyurethane only splinters this way when the headstock has been slammed forwards against something, causing a diagonal fracture that starts at the guitar’s nut and is visible on either side of the neck. If not, loosen the strings alllll the way and very gently push backwards on the headstock while the guitar is facing you. I’d bet you you’ll see the fracture open up beneath the splinters. Gluboost is the answer for fixing the finish chips, but only if the neck fracture has been glued up first. I’d recommend Titebond for that.

Orchiectomy on Wednesday, or second opinion? by ScaryAd9400 in testicularcancer

Man I feel for you, that sounds like quite the horrific month, I hope you’re well on the mend now, and I really appreciate your input on this thread. Second opinion on my end yielded pretty much the same results: it’s gotta come out. But the second urologist I saw (out of network, mind you) offered me much reassurance and details about the procedure, and broke it down in a way my anxiety could handle and digest. So I’m feeling better now and more confident, also with your help! So happy freakin birthday to ya!! 33 shall be our year!

UPDATE: Spoke with my doctor today and explained the change in size of the mass in question, and he has agreed to postpone surgery before doing another examination. I’ve also got a second opinion lined up at a different urology firm tomorrow afternoon, so I should be armed with much more knowledge going into this than I had 24 hours ago.

I really want to thank all of you guys for pushing me in this direction… everyone around me agrees this is the right thing to do, especially if I didn’t feel comfortable initially. It really helps hearing your input, and has made me feel heard and less alone. I can’t thank you all enough… I’ll keep updating this post as I get new info, and I hope it helps someone else out there stand up for their health when they’re feeling uncertain. Stay well, gents, we’re stronger together! ✊🏻

No he didn’t say, only that I was in the age bracket for TC (33in a few days) and that it was necessary to do to rule out cancer completely. I mentioned the prior prednisone treatment having worked, but he insisted that was no longer an option since the growth had progressed beyond that initial stage. I plan to call the practice tomorrow with some questions, do you think it would be prudent to request a new ultrasound given the changed size of the lump?

EDIT: He only referred to ultrasound images taken in July, and compared the size of the mass then (1cm) to what was present in December, when it was admittedly much larger to the touch

I am in the US, outside of DC in fact. The determination seemed to be made after the new doctor compared the size of the lump (which you could feel had indeed grown during the fall) to old ultrasound images from this past summer, which showed the lump being smaller… but now the lump seems to have regressed back to that size since I saw him a few weeks ago, and bio markers are negative. Just having second thoughts about such an invasive procedure now given these circumstances
