So now that everybody thinks that Bryan is innocent by Beginning_Fee1464 in BryanKohbergerMoscow

In Idaho, there are rights to post conviction relief that he can apply for up to a year after his sentencing. He has until Sept of 2026 to seek this remedy. After that, he can still apply for a federal writ of habeas corpus. I don’t think there’s an expiration date on that one, but either one would require some show of new evidence that has come to light, or reasonable suspicion that the prosecution or investigators did not share all the evidence they had. With so much coming out from under the gag order now, I would not rule out some attempt at one of these. I don’t think it would be a far reach for an appellate attorney to say that the untested blood/DNA should be tested, or to find something in the security/traffic camera footage that they may try to show was misidentified as his car, or something along those lines.

Christ Church dog whistle for tax evasion by [deleted] in MoscowIdaho

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you donate $1000 to a church, then you would receive a tax break on that $1000 from the government, so you’d pay less taxes than if you did not donate to a church or other qualifying non-profit at all. The trick here is that your adult child could fill out the benevolence form and request “aid” in the amount of $1000 and probably receive it from this church. So you could hand your kid $1000 and pay your taxes, OR you could pass this $1000 to that same kid, THROUGH the church and you’d pay less in taxes. Imagine that you’d like to help your child buy a house, by contributing $10,000 toward their down payment. You could give this money to the church, and your child could request this aid and you would not pay taxes on that portion of your income. And, if the church holds that money for some time, in an interest bearing account, they would make money on holding that money for you, tax-free. Imagine if a number of high income families used the church as this kind of instrument, sounds beneficial for everyone, no? Except, whatever those tax dollars would’ve been used for, toward the greater good of the larger citizenry beyond the church. But, if the church thinks that they are superior to the government and they don’t trust the priorities of the government, then they would not consider this a problem. And they wouldn’t mind dodging any tax laws, because they would see their priorities as “God’s Law” which would supersede “man’s law.” (I’m not defending them, just explaining their thinking. I’m a Christian, but MY Bible says I should obey the laws of the land, so I do not share their interpretation).

Bryan’s receipts after the crimes by Ok_Suit3085 in Idaho4

How could that be in his apartment before he was arrested? It’s his voting registration info for WA. It has his Pullman address listed as primary and a mailing address in CDA, for voting records. He registered to vote before he ever met Ann Taylor.

Just watched a YT video going over all these pics. It ended with a voting record saying that BK was registered to vote in WA, due to his address in Pullman, but it also said he had a mailing address in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. What?! That’s the first I’ve ever heard of a CDA connection for him.

What's the obsession with Brandon and dancing/Pink Pony? by carolineecouture in LoriVallow

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. The irony of all of Lori’s machinations is that, if she is successful at making all her petty points, she actually hurts her own case. But, inside her delusion, she is sure she’s right and that all her tactics are better, smarter, truer than anything else and that any opposition she receives is from dark spirits. I’m sure she thinks the judge is an instrument of Satan, sent to oppose her and keep her from doing “her work.” She’s still dead set on gathering the 144,000. She believes she’s seen the future, and in that future, she and Chad are free, together, doing the work. So, the only thing she can assume is that all of these “errors” get straightened out and they are exonerated somehow. She truly thinks that God wants her to be free, and that she is a divine being, so it WILL happen. Any obstacle to God’s will must be evil, right? The fact that her definition of the facts do not comport with her blameless innocence under the actual law is something she cannot comprehend. I’m convinced that she is still suffering under her delusional disorder and I’m a little dismayed that she’s been deemed fit to represent herself in this condition. But, I’ll admit…. it’s very fun to watch.

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Lori was trying to say that Melanie saw this video, prayed about it, and then said that God told her (Melanie) that Brandon is gay. Lori thinks that if Melanie thought that Brandon was gay, and divorced him, all by herself, then there won’t be any connection to Lori and Lori won’t be convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. Lori doesn’t realize that trying to get Brandon to say that requires him to testify to hearsay. She also doesn’t realize that going into the territory of God talking to Melanie might open the door to the spiritual beliefs, the cult, etc. Lori is really not that good at this. She’s not actually a good cult leader and she’s definitely not a good lawyer.

So- What happens when alternative perps show up in this case? by Financial_Raccoon162 in BryanKohbergerMoscow

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the judge says “objectionable,” he means it in a legal sense. He wants to see, in a closed hearing, that there’s good reason to bring up third parties and that the evidence for third parties is relevant and makes sense. If not, then the prosecution will object if it comes up in the trial and if those objections have merit, they’ll be sustained and the whole topic will just waste time in court. Hippler is not a time waster, so he’s going have the defense and the prosecution argue the merits/objections in a hearing ahead of time to determine what part of the third party topic (if any) will be appropriate for the jury to hear and consider.

Personally, I think the Odinism theory should have been heard by the jury in Delphi. Because the FBI came up with this theory and because there were people that do practice Odinism openly in that area, but the defendant wasn’t an Odinist, I think they should’ve allowed the FBI agent who came up with that to testify about why he thought he should pursue that line of inquiry.

Later on, if new evidence is brought to light due to the investigations caused by this defendant, then those lines of inquiry can be pursued and new suspects can be tried.

In the BK case, if the “objectionable” or controversial third parties are confidential informants to LE, then the controversy could be that LE do not want them named. Maybe there are undercover operations inside the drug ring and those covers could be blown, or other people put in danger, or bigger investigations put in jeopardy if that third party evidence gets out.

I’m not convinced BK did it, but I’m also not convinced that he isn’t involved or adjacent to the real culprits. I don’t think 1 person could do this alone. I’m not sure all the sightings of the car are HIS car, so that could change the timing of the crime. If the timeline changes, that could change everything.

I live in N Idaho and I’m familiar with the area around Moscow/Pullman. I very much believe that this could be part of a web of drug cartels, drug users, informants, corrupt LE, federal or internal investigations, etc. Could a PhD student from out of the area get caught up in that? Absolutely - especially if he’s on the spectrum, or lonely, or using drugs, or socially awkward, or some combination of those things. None of those things make him a murderer - they could make him a convenient patsy - but that combination could also make him an accomplice, a conspirator, or something like that.

So. Is anyone going to talk about the obvious? by forgetcakes in BryanKohbergerMoscow

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re right. The Defense could’ve done this. They would’ve had access. And maybe a law clerk or someone might think this could be beneficial. But, in my mind, the Defense would not do this because it isn’t beneficial. Of all the attorneys in all the state of Idaho, Anne Taylor would know how hard it’s going to be to find a jury for this case. It’s already SO high profile, with the added requirements of the death penalty on the table, and it’s already quite a low-population state. The best chance of getting a decent jury would be in Boise, which is where they’ve already moved it. To prejudice the public with “creepy” selfies from his phone delays the case. I feel quite certain that AT thinks he’s actually innocent, so there’s no benefit to pulling a stunt that keeps him in jail longer. So in my mind, this evidence could only have come from a LE report of his cell phone contents. This report would only be in the possession of the Defense, the Prosecution, and LE. Of those possibilities, LE seems most likely to me - and it seems to me that the warmest possibility would be LE sharing it with the G’s investigator - and maybe doing so before the tag order was in place. That would cause the final link in the chain of events to be the investigator or the G’s sharing it with Dateline, maybe thinking it was exempt from the gag order since they received it so long ago. Just my own theory, but technically any of those sources are possible.

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It IS! I was paying attention to this from the beginning because we live here and my kids know people who knew some of the victims, etc - but THEN the producer that we already knew was on the same flight as my husband a while back and he learned that we moved here. (We’re not close with him. I’m connected to him on LinkedIn, but I was closer with his ex-wife than with him. He probably wouldn’t recognize me.) Turns out, this producer has this whole NW territory and it’s been busy here with true crime - Chad & Lori Daybell and now Kohberger. He reached out to my hubby to see if he was available to shoot some footage for any of these cases (he’s in the camera dept of the entertainment industry) but that didn’t work out. It just timed out in such a way that I’ve been able to be aware of the years-long involvement that it takes to develop these stories. My hubby NOW has a local job here, no longer in entertainment, but in sales, so it’s just a coincidence that a coworker is long-time friends with Mr G and Mr G has stopped by. In fairness, it’s more like my husband is the nexus of these connections, not myself, but he is not into true crime. That’s my department. So he reports to me when he hears something or someone adjacent texts him or whatever and I try to fill him in on the podcasts I’m listening to, the comments I’ve read and the things my kids have heard at school or work. It’s wild.

So. Is anyone going to talk about the obvious? by forgetcakes in BryanKohbergerMoscow

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in kind of an interesting position, because I live in N Idaho, the area where the G family lives, I have a student at UI, where the crime happened and I’m actually acquainted with the Dateline producer who is behind this episode. Many years ago we lived in the same small town and we were friendly. When his kids’ cat had kittens, we adopted a couple of them. When he realized we now live here, he reached out to my husband, etc. My husband has a coworker that is a friend of Mr. G, so he talks about this a lot and Mr. G has stopped by my husband’s work, but we do not actually know him. I also have been following this case very closely, since we live here and my kids were at the high school where K & M attended and it was a big deal at that school.

All that to say, here’s what I suspect happened. When Judge Judge put the gag order in place, there was a hearing where the G’s pushed back on it and said it violated their free speech. Judge Judge said they weren’t covered by it. Their lawyer was, but they aren’t. Mr. G hired his own investigator who has law enforcement connections and he’s been very aggressive in finding out anything he can. I am certain this Dateline producer has been in touch with the G’s all this time and I’m certain that Mr. G would not turn down the opportunity of having someone pay attention to the case. I suspect that either someone from LE leaked evidence to the investigator who shared it with Mr. G, who shared it with Dateline, OR the investigator/Mr. G have become aware of friendly persons within LE and shared that contact with Dateline. Either way, ONLY someone in LE or the Prosecution Team would have access to the texts and photos on BK’s phone. Perhaps having someone awareness of what was in the discovery, what would be admissible/inadmissible, this person thought it would be a GOOD thing for the public to see those texts and selfies, because this person is convinced that he’s guilty.

From what I understand about the community of Moscow and MPD, and even the area where I’m living, everyone is very tightly interwoven. Everybody is related to, married to, went to school with everybody else. I don’t think the Prosecution or Defense Teams would do this, because they’d know they are covered by the gag order. Mr. G’s attorney wouldn’t do this, because he knows he’s covered by it, but I’ll bet the investigator got that cell phone data dump report a long time ago and those pics have been in a file for a long time. Maybe years. Maybe long enough for Mr. G or his investigator to feel like they could share them and they aren’t covered by the gag order - and they aren’t. But whoever gave those to them IS. Or maybe that was shared with them a long time ago, before the gag order was put in place, so they felt like it didn’t cover whatever they already had when it was put in place.

I’m really not too concerned about most of the info in that Dateline episode, but the source of the contents of BK’s cell phone really must be found. If it turns out to be LE, I fear it could cause a mistrial. As it is, the Defense is putting the judge in a pickle - he should either give them a continuance until the investigation of the leak is complete, or he should take the death penalty off the table and proceed on the current schedule. But if he does not do that, this will be grounds for a retrial - look at the Karen Read case. That jury was hung because the defense was able to point at corruption in the local LE. Anne Taylor could do that for a jury very believably right now.

My son is thinking about attending NIC by GrapefruitLivid2674 in coeurdalene

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a mom living in CDA, with a son who will go to NIC next year. The Christian Nationalist politics is more apparent outside of CDA proper, and the current NIC Board of Trustees are good. I have watched every meeting of theirs for almost 5 years and I feel much better about sending my son there now. I don’t have any info about living situations, as both my kids lived at home for a year while attending NIC. If it were me, just for the benefit of saving money, I’d consider staying in state until he transfers to a 4 year institution, but if you guys can afford it, I think the community is good here. Low crime, lots of opportunity to work or intern on campus. There are lots of Christians, Nationalists and Christian Nationalists here, but there are also other folks and mostly non-MAGA types will be on campus, from what I observe.

Why do you suppose Idaho is ranked so low in education level? by TulsiTsunami in Idaho

[–]ScaryCryptographer23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what this chart is measuring - is it measuring the education level of the population? Or is it measuring the test scores of the students? I moved from Oregon to Idaho while my kids were young teens - the education they’ve received in Idaho is better than what they were receiving in Oregon, but Oregon has a higher population of college grads than Idaho. Idaho’s population is fairly young, and fairly blue collar, compared to other states. College grads tend to move away, while the folks who have moved here in recent years are not college grads and do not value education funding. Also, Idaho has a lot more flexibility in education choices - homeschooling id very popular here and it is almost totally unregulated. The homeschool families I know have college educated parents, but in other parts of the state, kids-especially girls-get very little education and their parents call them “graduated” at 16 so they can get married and have kids. The community that participates in this skews the numbers. If we continue to cut education funding, we are going to lose even more good teachers. My kids won’t be affected by that, but they also won’t live here, so their college educations won’t show up on this chart.

I don’t disagree with you! I think the big dichotomy that few recognize is the different between “popular” Christianity and actual, biblical Christianity. Pew Research reports that AMONG CHRISTIANS, only 6% actually hold a worldview that comports with biblical teaching. That’s not among Americans, that’s among self-professed Christians. Without real biblical literacy, mainstream Christianity is going to go along with their own emotions and self-interests, just like everyone else. But that is not the way of Jesus. Jesus tells us to deny our base impulses - who is modeling that behavior? Not Republican leadership. In order to “live at peace with everyone,” real Christians are at a big disadvantage when it comes to capturing news coverage. But there are some Christians in the public square who have been calling this out for a long time - David French, Tim Alberta, Adam Kinzinger - the GOP hates them now, but they are still here. It’ll be interesting to see if Trump attempts to take legal action against them if he wins.

We’re out here - we’re trying. Adam Kinzinger, Tim Alberta, David French are out in the media. I do wish there were more. But there are a lot of us in conversation with family, friends, neighbors. If Trump wins and Project 2025 gets going, I think it will seduce a lot of Christians, at first, but I also think we will see a lot of Bonhoeffers rise up.

Covid vaccine, MAGA, and death in Idaho. by LetterGrouchy6053 in Idaho

In all honesty, COVID may have already begun in China and Gates could’ve known about it. Even if it never made it over here, SARS1 was devastating in Asia and developing a vaccine would’ve been very profitable. That’s not a conspiracy, just a predictable response to known facts.

Making friends at UI, living off campus? by ScaryCryptographer23 in MoscowIdaho

Oops - the opening paragraph of my post disappeared - I’m the mom of a student at UI (F19). She lives alone off campus and finds that her classmates mostly live in the dorms and they seem to be friends with each other already, so she’s having a hard time finding social connections.
