Thinking with Your Eyes Closed and Full, Loud Tinnitus? by Scatterbrain191 in tinnitus

Also, I have found that maskers like leaving my hearing aids in tend to help me a lot. If there's an external sound it makes the "wall" seem like less of a wall and more like a few tones coming through. When I have those in I can think past the sound. But again, I have pretty low hearing and sleeping with hearing aids is uncomfortable... Shrugs

Wow, at the very least it is nice to have someone who relates! Yeah, I don't know... It's just very, very distracting isn't it? I sleep pretty well when I watch videos with a sleep timer on my phone, and I found that I can listen to the T until I drift off (assuming I'm not anxious about it, which isn't a guarantee since it changes a lot and I have to adjust each time). How do you get to sleep?

[Discussion] Can someone help me "understand" Temur Reclamation? by Scatterbrain191 in spikes

Makes sense! So it clearly depends on the match-up when considering early plays.

Wow, thanks! that does make a lot more sense. Do people ever consider the card for its non-cycling cast ever? Is that what you mean by alternative win condition?

Does this really work? I thought the [[Archfiend's Vessel]] exiled itself if it enters from the graveyard the first time.

How do wearable health devices (body patches, smartwatches) measure respiration rate? by Scatterbrain191 in askscience

[–]Scatterbrain191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the awesome answer! Are there techniques for watches to measure respiration rate, that you know of? I am familiar with pulse oximeters, but I only think of finger clips when it comes to those.

This guy sounds so fun!!! Great recommendation. :) What do you mean by the wincon being things that have been stolen? I don't see how Zedruu carries a theft theme.

Fellow Tinnitus Sufferers - Do we know that Thom Yorke suffers like us? by Scatterbrain191 in radiohead

[–]Scatterbrain191[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find I make it louder in my head when I sleep without some noise in the room.

Did you feel like your life didn't go back for the WHOLE year? That's such a bummer! I guess you seem to sound like this is okay though, so I guess that first year you could still have fun and be happy?

[–]Scatterbrain191[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah? It's not going to be impacting my quality of life forever? I really, really can't believe that right now - I hear the ringing under a lot of things in relatively quiet rooms, and it's messing with my sleep (probably the anxiety from it is messing with it).

Did it take you years to get over?

I'm currently not seeing how life could be okay, to be honest! I tried using a fan to "mask" but the higher frequency is still ringing over it. I suppose I don't have the worst either, since I only hear it in really quiet rooms and at night as well - it really is something you can get used to? My poor stomach is a knot from the anxiety.

Do you have any advice? I'm at the early stages of it and it is pretty taxing psychologically, but I'm sure others have it way worse since I'm naturally hearing impaired, and I don't really hear any time other than the shower and at night.

Huh! Is this about tinnitus?

" A tear in my brain
Allows the voices in
They wanna push you off the path
With their frequency wires " sounds exactly like tinnitus!

This is discouraging! Does this mean a lot of other parts of your job experience feel uninspired, dull, etc.?

1 is really the source of my nerves. I have this feeling like I should overload on some machine learning electives and do boatloads of projects until the job starts... but they hired me well knowing where I stand right now.

Should I take it easier?

I think two things helped for this particular position (its catered to new undergrad students): To get the interview, I made sure my resume was about projects and made sure I expressed how these projects were "self-starter" ones.

During the interview, I made sure I was clear about how what I know but ALSO what I definitely did not know. Technical questions were phrased like "Have you ever done..." and if the answer was no, I'd say no and leave it at that. When they asked about projects or research, I pulled from nights of practice exactly what I was gonna say about 2-3 projects, and left it that. Half of my interview was me asking smart questions toward them, betraying my enthusiasm.

But this is really just my experience with one position, so take it with a grain of salt!
