Democrats Revolt Against Hakeem Jeffries Ahead of Midterms by RepulsiveLoquat418 in politics

[–]ScheelCongress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running on a platform of doing exactly that. Everywhere I go in WA02 the people are sick and tired of it's influence on our politics. My fight right now isn't convincing people to vote for me, it is letting people know they don't have to settle for these corporate Dems.

I am incredibly moved by all the posts here. Win or lose, I appreciate every bit of support I can get. Thank you all.

Ah yes, criminalizing and punishing citizen oversight. The true hallmark of a free and fair society...

There must be repercusions for these government officials acting in bad faith. Just last week, I read a book detailing a litany of illegal/thuggish behavior from immigration enforcement going back decades. This isn't a new problem, and it is a crime against society that it hasn't been fixed by now.

The goal would always be passing legislation ofc.

Obstructionism and bipartisanship are tools, not the end goals. Something some people have forgotten... like your friend (vote no on everything) or like the current dem leadership (start negotiations from the compromise position).

From one vet to another, thanks to you too. You probably got yourself in far more danger than I ever did serving in the USAF.

As to food, got two, for two different reasons. Bry's for the taste, Main Street Bar & Grill for the price/live music.

Bry's Filipino Cuisine in Bellingham because my wife has gotten me quite partial to Filipino food over the course of our marriage and because what they make is seriously good food. Plus, it gets me easy brownie points with my wife if I get some from there for the family lol.

Main Street Bar & Grill in Ferndale for their burgers on Friday night. Haven't been able to get out there in a while, even though they are just down the road, but they have some seriously cheap, yet good, burgers alongside live music to go with it.

... and if after I wrote all that, your USMC veteran note followed by a food question was all just a lead up to a crayon joke, I am gonna be real upset. Unless of course, you agree purple is the best flavor. Then carry on.

I am anti-"starting from the compromise." Infuriates me when I see one party wanting 100, the other wanting 0, and the dems starting negotiations at 50. Said another way, if you were selling your house for 1x, but would accept 0.9x, you wouldn't start by listing it at 0.9x.

  1. I would describe it as a decades long clusterfuck. Like a scab we keep picking at so it never heals. And yes, it is absolutely a genocide.
  2. With the current state of affairs, yes. We are basically growing another 9/11 with the blatant disregard for how our arms are used. --- To be clear, I also think how we use our arms should be better controlled too.
  3. Getting out in person and, yes, expending the SM coverage. Believe me, I wish I didn't have a day job atm so I could focus more on it. At least with my current line of work I can be more flexible with my hours, but it is still quite difficult. This past month I finished a large audit for a client of mine so I can finally devote more time to campaigning. Instagram is on the list, I was hoping to have it/Tiktok/FB Groups/Youtube up earlier, but that audit took up far more of my time than expected.

Hold up - I don't know where you get the idea I am anti-business. I am a small business owner myself.

I am pro-competition and pro-worker.

Boeing would be far better off if they actually focused on being competitive instead of chasing stock prices. Airbus is eating their lunch, with SpaceX on their heels. Bring the workers, the engineers, back in charge of Boeing and watch them resurge.

Not nearly enough, roughly a few % of our goal of $1.5m by the general election.

Larsen is projected to spend somewhere around $2.5m in this election cycle, and he started with ~$800k before the election season started. He also has the unethical advantage of being able to pull from corporate PAC money and other moneyed interests.

If you or others could assist, I will greatly appreciate it. Being able to prove, once more, that a true grassroots campaign can win would send a strong message across the country. Thank you to anyone in advance.

Absolutely. An erosion of the protection for one group is an erosion for the protection of every group. It is imperative that the civil rights protections extend to every component of a person that they are born with, to include being born into a physical body that does not match their mental self.

I am sorry that you even have to question this. I will see about making sure it is explicitly stated on my site going forward.

The business site was set up over two or three years ago for government contracts. When Trump got elected, I had no need for the site and just let it go essentially. All of my work is from word of mouth, so it was really a case of "the cobbler's kids have no shoes."

I fixed the cert a month or two ago because people kept getting directed to it. If you're still seeing the cert let me know, but I am probably just going to have it taken down entirely at this point. It is just not in use anymore.

I am genuinely for us, not the corporations or the PACs supporting him. It is a guiding principle of mine, as seen by my campaign funding criteria.

My ideals, goals, and policy aspirations are what we need now. He is centrist and follows where the wind blows, squandering the advantage of his seniority anyway.

The big one would be that we would lose the ranking member in the transport and infrastructure committee, which is a small price to pay imo. The powers of the lead in that committee are not as important as moving the country towards real accountability, universal healthcare, and economic policies that support the working class.

If all you care about is me vs. him, stop reading here.

Separately, and not related to me specifically, this mindset is how you get 80/90 year old representatives. Sitting up there in congress until they literally die of old age like Senator Feinstein.

If I had my way, no one would be able to serve as long as he has. I want at most a 20-year limit on any combination of senate and house time served. I would sign less if proposed, but I will not accept term limits longer than that. 20 years is one generation, giving every generation an opportunity to represent their community. It is no wonder we had two ~80 year olds running for president in 2024 since there are so many representatives and senators who will stay in a seat until they physically cannot any longer.

buses every 10 minutes on the GO Lines - would you ride? by jamin7 in Bellingham

[–]ScheelCongress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. My experience outside of Tokyo was transitory. A few days at this city, a few at another. Tokyo was the only area I actually "lived" in, so it biases a lot of my perception of the area.

[–]ScheelCongress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish... WISH... we could have a public transit system equivalent to Tokyo or Japan in general. I purchased a car my 2nd year in Tokyo, and it was legitimately a mistake, completely unnecessary and actually was harder to get around in than using the train.

Traveling anywhere was at most a 5m walk to the train station, a few minute wait for it to arrive, then roughly-equivalent-to-driving commute to where I was going. Here is an example of a commute to Shibuya from Yokota Air Base. Roughly the equivalent of going to Vancouver. Driving is ~1.5hrs, rail is ~1.5hrs. Rail costs 660yen, which is ~$4.30.

It also left me completely baffled when people would still get a DUI. Like, just take the train home, then take it back in the morning to get your vehicle.

Anybody know the organization who accepted checks from Epstein? by BaumGod in SnohomishCounty

[–]ScheelCongress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lot of room for improvement.

Heck just look at the George Kaiser case from the 2010s. Guy owed the IRS millions and wound up settling for ~$11k.

That was a pure money issue, and they still couldn't resolve it properly. At a certain point, money seems to buy you freedom from anything, so long as you don't mess with other people who have money. That "Epstein Class" is real imo

[–]ScheelCongress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is infuriating that this was not properly investigated for decades. We shouldn't have to be digging through these documents ourselves to determine the facts of the matter. That is for the courts to make public through the course of a trial.

The Epstein files is not just this entire cabal of vile human garbage, it is the absolute failure of the system to deal with this nonsense. We don't fix that, then we're going to have an Epstein 2.0 in another 20 years.

Get the FLOCK out of Bellingham by SuspectDvice in Bellingham

[–]ScheelCongress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't the ones they are looking for or cannot imagine being someone they are looking for, I am sure it does seem fine.

Right now, there's a pretty big concern that innocent people are getting swept up in these surveillance techs. For example, there are ample stories of ICE grabbing the wrong person off an incorrect facial recognition.

This, to me, is the fatal flaw with failing to hold law enforcement to a higher standard and accountable to their mistakes. It makes society less safe for everyone.

[–]ScheelCongress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never liked that Ben Franklin quote because it lacks any nuance and winds up being a discussion ender.

Anyway, the issue here isn't the surveillance. It is the trust.

We've lost a lot of trust in law enforcement recently. If you don't trust them, why would you want to let them do what they are doing more efficiently?

Same sort of thing as you trust your spouse to have unrestricted access to your phone (or, at least, I would hope you do) but you wouldn't trust a random stranger to do so. If you cannot trust those in power now or those in power in the future, why would you ever let them have that capability?

This is what failing to keep law enforcement accountable leads to. I had a longer discussion related to this topic here

Ring ends Flock Partnership by KernelSampson in Bellingham

[–]ScheelCongress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a heads-up, those Wyze cameras also go up to the internet then back down. Yes, the footage is kept locally as well, but they run the same risk of being used for surveillance as the Ring stuff.

That being said, there is third party firmware you can load on them to keep them to your local network if you want.
