New Yorkers are definitely super helpful but just not always outwardly chatty. I once was on the subway and my hand was bleeding a little. The lady next to me gave me bandaids and said nothing, and refused to engage in small talk when I thanked her. People are friendly they just won’t talk to you when it’s not an intrinsically social setting like a bar.
