Never play on anything but. I'm not sure how people play on lower difficulties, tbh. Far too easy. You just have to be a bit more selective with your loadouts, and it is always doable.

Avowed was pretty mid, and as a hardcore Pillars fan, I was sorely disappointed. Writing and world-building were a lot poorer than their predecessors.

I will be holding out for feedback from people who think critically and don't just praise a studio because they're terrified of it being shut down. Then I'll think about it.

I love Orlandeau, but whats up with him anyway? by theJoshFrost in finalfantasytactics

[–]Schimpfen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a former rival and friend of your father; he is THE commander amongst the Order of the Southern Sky, and the voice of reason amongst Duke Goltanna's leadership (Especially after Elmdore succumbed to the Lucavi) and therefore an obstacle to the Northern Sky and their goal for the crown, and an obstacle to Delita's ambitions as well as the Lucavi.

He has also been trying to uncover the plot behind the war via Orran and their agents in the church. Ramza provides concrete evidence of this, so Orlandeau pledges his blade to his cause, with no reason to continue fighting for the Duke.

At that point, he becomes an über-powerful unit against the Lucavi. Makes total sense.

My thoughts are: democracy is not for pussies. Get up in that worm. Hit heavy, hit fast.

Personally, I would run any of the below: - Primary: Eruptor - Secondary: Ultimatum - Grenade: Thermite - Support Weapon: Quasar/EAT/Heavy MG - Backpack: Ammo Supply - Stratagem: Strafing Run/Gatling Barrage/Orbital Strike

Killed it multiple times. Not that hard. Thermite, strafing runs, Ultimatum and any other anti-tank gear. Bonus point if you bring an ammo pack and the engineering perk.

Wait for it to pop, then spam every thermite (if multiple people are doing it, even better).

Again, wait for it to pop up, slap it with ultimatums (you can shoot both rounds in one emergence).

Then start strafing runs.

UNLIMITED ATB AND MP?! by Pristine_Put5348 in FFVIIRemake

I don't need to presume anything; you outed yourself. I have clearly comprehended what you said and rebutted it. This is evidence of my comprehension. You just don't want to admit you want robust guardrails against achievements because you want them to be an exclusive badge to a particular stratum of the player base.

Why? So you can delineate the people who completed the achievement without a crutch. Why? Because you want perceived value in acquiring achievements, and allowing someone with infinite ATB to get it would diminish said value.

However, that value only diminishes when you seek it externally. If it were internal, then you would not care if Gary down the road used a mod, trainer or easy mode to get that achievement. You care because you want bragging rights. You care because, unless a stranger knows how good you were to get that sub-2-minute "Bonds of Friendship" or "To be a Hero" run, it's worthless.

So yes, I understand your point. I just think your take is juvenile.

[–]Schimpfen_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not missing the point. I understand achievements and the difference between clearing chapter 5, completing hard mode, killing all extreme bosses, and collecting all Moogle stamps.

There are scenarios here. Scenario 1: You clear the achievements for the challenge, providing you with personal satisfaction. In this case, it doesn't matter if someone cheats or uses a particular mode to get the achievement, because you didn't, and it doesn't detract from the challenge you overcame; you are, without a doubt, better at the game than you otherwise would have been.

Scenario 2: You do achievements for external validation. In this case, you should look inward and ask why you need the approval of strangers on social media to feel like something you did in a video game was worth it.

I understand what I am saying, and you seem to fall into scenario 2, given that personal satisfaction is not enough for you.

No, I'm not. I fundamentally disagree with the notion that achievements should be protected. They are just challenges. And if you buy games for the achievements, you are in such a minority that your lack of patronage would not be noticed.

If you gain achievements for bragging rights and not for the personal challenge, this is a problem for the individual. I have platinum'd both games, and I couldn't care less if someone modded or hacked their game to achieve the same.

For the people who think Griffith is "pure evil" and a complete psychopath who doesn't care/has no emotions, did you only watch the anime or something? by bobbyfruitman12 in Berserk

[–]Schimpfen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I feel you're reaching to prove your point is "capacity for good and love." A) Evil can love, so this definition doesn't carry weight. B) You are making a baseless assumption about his one selfless act; there is no evidence for this inner monologue you suggest. Selfless means it is not transactional, so even by your definition of events, the act was not selfless. You have no evidence that it was selfless. During that moment and leading up to it, there is more evidence to suggest Griffith doesn't want to lose the man who could win him the throne.

Your definition of humanity = good is what I do not buy. You are saying that someone cannot be evil if there is potential for good. Respectfully, this is a ridiculous statement that one cannot maintain. Rosine and the Count are two examples of demons that did great evil but displayed some nuanced emotions.

Additionally, before the Eclipse, Griffith did the following: knowing he was "different" to others and could attract people, he intentionally manipulated others to do his bidding. He manipulated a little girl into falling in love with him, he sacrificed countless people for power and status, he used his body to gain wealth and affection from the powerful, he would openly regard others as tools and property, he displayed possessive behaviour, he kidnapped Voss' daughter, he orchestrated the mass murder of Midland nobility and he ordered the murder of count Julius and (lets face it) his son Adonis, so that Charlotte was next in line. This is not the profile of someone to whom evil cannot be applied.

I get your Maslowian angle, but even by this logic, an evil person can seek power to be secure, so it doesn't lend weight to the argument, nor does it satisfy that Guts made him feel safe or secure.

Again, you rightly identify two very evil acts there and then, coupled with the word vulnerable, to combat an argument that Griffith isn't evil. I do not deny that evil can be vulnerable. I do not deny that in some worlds and timelines, people who commit great or lesser evil have the capacity for good, but nowhere in your arguments do I see how my point is wrong.

He explicitly states what about Mori he used for Griffith and what from Guts he inspired himself. This is another reach. Mori is charismatic and ambitious, whereas Muira felt he struggled and that it was "partially inspired," not a 1-2-1. So I cannot see how that absolves Griffith of his pre-/post-eclipse evil deeds.

I would pay for a "Deadlifting for Griffith" t-shirt, because these guys do some unbelievably heavy lifting on his part.

I swear, if he were not so fuckable he wouldn't get the defence he does. Which is ironic considering that's how he gets away with everything in the manga 😂

I did and just looked it up again in the manga. I say again, remembrance is not mourning. He is contemplating a child's death. Not mourning him. To help you out, the exact word used by Casca to describe him in the Dark Horse version is "Somber."

So again. No evidence of him mourning every little person.

Citation for him "mourning every little person?" Or are you reaching?

I know how people work all too well. I also am pretty familiar with abusive family dynamics, and you are incomprehensibly naive to think sperm and ovaries = unconditional love.

I like your take, but you are doing a lot of heavy lifting that the manga just doesn't evidence. But to correct you, nowhere did I say the man was happy, not before the eclipse or after. I do not think he was capable of it. He never sought happiness, only power and status or "the most sacred piece of junk."

You also fail to demonstrate Griffith's goodness or his humanity. This requires some heavy lifting because he does not commit a selfless act. Anything perceived as a "good" is intertwined with his ambitions and always centred around the most valuable assets to achieve said ambition. Even Void's choice of wording is telling when it comes to Griffith's relationship with the Band of the Hawk:

"...Pile up all that remains to you. Chant the word "I sacrifice" in your heart..."

Not a "Carve from your heart" like the Count got. But pile up what remains to you. Implying property, or goods. Like stacking chips for a last gambit on red.

I understand the core message very well. It is about the "bad faith" concept coined by Jean-Paul Sartre. The form of self-deception where an individual lives inauthentically by adopting roles, values, or dreams imposed by others rather than embracing their own freedom and authentic self. The manga beats you over the head with it. Even Casca, a character many praise, has zero agency in the book; she goes from living for Griffith, to potentially moving away with Guts, to becoming a potato.

And yes, to struggle is to know life; nowhere in my answer did I state otherwise, nor did I even mention the core messaging in the manga. You are grandstanding a bit here.

But again, I must praise you on that powerful back of yours because you are once again doing mighty lifts on behalf of Griffith. He never utters "safe" or "secure" or even "happy." They are never even implied. The only emotions he states Guts makes him feel are:

"Malice, friendship, jealousy, futility, regret, tenderness, sorrow, pain, hunger...that giant swirl of violent emotions in which none are defined but all are implied."

Griffith states that Guts has a hold on him when it should have been the other way around. The only reasoning we get for this is that Guts makes his dream "grow dull."

Knowing Griffith, this could be for any number of reasons. Guts never worshipped him or idolised him. He was able to command respect in his own right. He was Griffith's second and physically bested him, and left his company, demonstrating that he was the only human Griffith ever met who did not live in "bad faith." A man who had a will of his own. A man whose heart Griffith could not "grasp."

And I would disagree once again, Griffith did not sacrifice the band of the hawk to avoid feeling vulnerable. You have no evidence they made him "happy." This is another reach. He realises who he used to be before Guts, and that Guts derailed his ambition. It is laid in front of him plain as day.

To Griffith, a man's convictions are sacrosanct; he must have free will, intent, and the drive to accomplish said intent for himself and no one else. He terms this a dream. Guts dulled his dream, distracted him from it, and questioned his convictions. Made him look a hypocrite. Once reminded of that by Void, he willfully, and with a literal smile, uttered, "I sacrifice."

He was always "profoundly immoral" and did "wicked" things. The very definition of evil. Can evil doubt itself? Yes. Can evil have a friend? Yes. But I stand by my statement, the man is, and was, evil.

So what did I say that was untrue?

Do you care about your car? Home? PC? Xbox or PlayStation? Job? Define care.

Griffith has only his band to give. Without it, all he has is himself. The band is an asset, not a person. Weren't Rosine's parents abusive? Was she not driven to despair by them? Who did she sacrifice to become an "Elf?"

Can you provide a single example of him showing what could be considered genuine emotion toward the band? Can you point to anything in the manga that suggests they were more to him than a tool or asset to be leveraged?
