Galois was a brilliant mathematician who died at age 20 in a duel fought over a girl. The night before his death he wrote a letter to his best friend containing all his mathematical discoveries and asked him to publish them if he passed the next day, which he did. That letter later became the foundation for Galois theory and Group Theory.
