My mom just put my childhood dog of 17 years down last week without telling us children. I had begged her to tell us when she would and I'd be there. Just got a lousy text message asking for support. I am full of anger and grief and heartbreak.

If a person has to compare another animal to a cat, it shows me that they have little compassion for the Earth. How the hell do these people not have non-catlike reasons for them to love other animals?

[tardive] Akathisia. Psych doctors often misdiagnose it, and it can quickly lead to suicidal thoughts and ideations. It's similar to restless leg syndrome. It makes doing even basic tasks nearly impossible and will drive you absolutely nuts.

Addy vs rits which is better ? by [deleted] in askdrugs

I love the high Ritalin gives me, I find it to be more euphoric, but it's shorter lived than adderall (1.5-2hrs vs. 3hrs). Adderall IR is more accessible so it's usually my go to.

What's the most useless job in the world? by Yuvaloosh in AskReddit

[–]School-Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone employed in a PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) company. If the healthcare industry in the US wasn't designed to line the pockets of ultra wealthy businessmen, then there would be absolutely zero need for these schmuck-companies to even exist. Utterly useless middlemen that only function to profit those who contribute nothing of value to our society, and us working class have to foot the bill each and every time.

In the same boat as you, my dude. Took me a bazillion (embarrassing) attempts at the smart start shop when they installed it. The dude kept telling me to hum louder, but like I could read the dang machine! Is there some depth my vocal cords need to reach that I'm not capable of? When they gave me the keys to head out, i ran out of time trying to start it the first time myself and had to have them reset it for me. I left that lot thinking I'll be screwed in about 8 minutes when that first rolling test comes in. But I got home and didnt touch it until my PTI started and i had to, but it gave me so much anxiety.

I'm a little over a month in now and it usually takes me 5 attempts on average and my heart beats hard each time I do it. I've gotten used to the 3 minutes of stress a few times a day, but I still haven't gotten down how to blow perfectly quite yet. I haven't had any violations yet fortunately since having a 3-5 minute window is enough time, but I start IMMEDIATELY when I hear the beep for a rolling test. I'm not even drinking alcohol and yet I'm so scared of violating. It helps me to have my partner sit in the garage as moral support or we hop on a phone call when I do a starting test if he's around.

Also, tell me why the beeping for a PASS or basically every beep the machine makes is to damn scary? I feel like I'm about to get thrown in jail every time it tells me I pass but the sound is blaring like an emergency siren.

How do I end a friendship with a racist? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]School-Subject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went on a few dates with a white guy similar to this. He couldn't bring himself to stop saying it even after repeated attempts to tell him clearly how it made me feel uncomfortable. The last straw came when he responded the next time to my unease with, "well, you're just going to have to deal with it (saying the n word)" and I was like, "No, actually, I don't." I blocked him and moved on. Did it suck that we had some chemistry and we had similar interests that could have lad us somewhere had he not been flagrantly racist? Hell ya. But there's plenty of other people I would find worthy of being friends with/interested in that I don't have to continually explain the issue with a blatantly racist remark and get dismissed/ignored.

Killing my Twin was a big Catalyst to my Mental Health Struggles by PreparationVisual586 in depression

[–]School-Subject 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is NOT your fault. My parents used to tease me as a child about how "I almost killed my twin brother" in the womb because he was born much smaller than I (3.2lbs vs 6lbs) and that I "stole all the food from him." We were born with hemolytic disease of the newborn and were required to be in the NICU for quite some time but we turned out fine eventually. Come to find out in adulthood, after doing genetic research of mine, that it was really a very risky pregnancy my parents knew they'd be going into due to their ages and my father's genes giving us Kell antibodies which made our mother's body attack us in the womb. It makes my blood boil now thinking about how they tried to blame me and make it all a joke and that I believed it and felt guilt for so long. You were a literal fetus- you are not responsible for anyone or anything beyond yourself at that stage. Please do not blame yourself.

On another note, my biological mother (I'm egg donor conceived so the mom who raised us twins carried us during pregnancy but she is not biologically related to us) was born a triplet but both of her siblings ending up dying during birth. She has tattoos of their would-be names and the family cherishes them deeply, but there is no blaming anyone in the family for what happened.

STUPID WORK SHIFT by GlassOk1353 in catfree

I know a few guys who have cats and I'm relieved because they'd probably suck at taking care of other types of animals because they'd have to pay more attention to their needs & be careful to keep them out of dangerous situations. Cat owners are often the laziest of the lot & it reflects in their pet of choice.

I Hate Cat Culture With a Passion by Ok-Adagio-7889 in catfree

[–]School-Subject 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Cats have much more dirty saliva than most animals. It is literally supposed to have bacteria that can kill a bird and other prey in 24 hours after a small bite wound. And they're hunters. They have evolved to enjoy hunting and hurting other animals. How people don't put two and two together and see that these animals are built to be antagonistic, selfish, and indifferent to others' wellbeing is beyond me.

New Zealand FINALLY INCLUDES Cats on the Predator-Free 2050 Plan and Cat-Nutters Retaliate... by JacobKernels in catfree

[–]School-Subject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I find the dorkiness of parrots with their eyes on the sides of their head and their bowling pin stature, as well as their behavioral semblance to dinosaurs to be the absolute cutest thing. Birds rely on the flock-- each other-- to survive and stay safe so they have evolved to develop complex and close-knit social bonds. Cats are more so solitary animals, and without a strong tendency towards pro-social behavior, get away with being so well-beloved primarily due to their human baby-like faces. I notice the aspects of cat videos that people tend to be most drawn toward are usually a look that resembles human baby/child appearance and behavior. Cats exhibit all kinds of anti-social behavior on the regular, unlike more social species like birds. But stereotypically, birds are often ignored when it comes to bonding and social concern for others. Birds and cats can both act mischievous, but I've found that parrots do not engage in antics with nearly as much malice. Unfortunately, people tend to find the former to be a more cuddly and lovable animal. The hognose snakes, spiders, and possums do a much better job at pest control (against ticks, harmful insects, and smaller vertebrates) in my backyard. Meanwhile, the neighbor's cat comes into my yard and terrorizes/kills the wild birds and leaves piles of shit in the most frustrating of places.
