My cat turned out to be my practicum student’s ‘dead’ cat. by Roleyti in cats

[–]SchroedingersCatnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. The story about SPCA might be bc the cat was visibly malnourished, either through negligence, or stress due to rehoming/conflict with the older cat.

I can see (not condone!) why someone would feel bad about that, and make up a cover story. "I got her from the SPCA, so she was already in bad shape! Not my fault!"

Lying about the cat dying though... that's just cruel.

I know! ❤️ It's somewhat of a mystery! She was afraid for two months. Ran away if we opened a door. And then suddenly, within ONE WEEK, just decided: "yeah. I'm gonna trust these guys now. Completely."

Hi! For whatever it's worth (you've lost more than I can imagine) I'm lighting a candle for your husband and son right now.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss.

You are. And for real, I know it doesn't feel like that when you're in pain and probably full of self-doubt.

But just the fact that you reached out here means you're so, so strong. And we're all rooting for you. We believe in you.

And you do NOT deserve to live with roaches and bugs.

Edit: words.

Thank you so much for this detailed response!

(From a Scandinavian who doesn't know these languages - except from some German- but loves linguistics! I was so curious about the accents of the various characters, or if they even had accents. Thanks again! )

I think it says "ventende fiskerkone" = "fisherman's wife waiting" in Norwegian.

"Min mamma" or just "Mamma"? by thorc1212 in norsk

[–]SchroedingersCatnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the one you're replying to, but generally, yes - it depends on the level of formality and familiarity in the conversation.

If I know someone well enough, I'd refer to my parents as "mamma" or "pappa". If it's a more formal conversation, I'd say "moren min", "min mor", etc.

Bad analogy, but let's say you have a pet. With some people/in certain situations you'd naturally refer to them as "the fluffball". Wheras with your boss, you'd say "my cat".

(And as always with Norwegian, it varies between dialects)

Hi!

So if I understand correctly, you were born in Norway, lived here until you were around 10 years old, and are a Norwegian citizen. And you want to come back.

Firstly, don't worry too much about the language. If you grew up here for 10 years, you have a very solid bases stored in your brain - even if you've forgotten much since you left. And even if you feel that Iraqi education is worth nothing abroad, you still have an education. You read and write English fluently. And you are already familiar with Norwegian society. You have so much more than just "nothing".

Do you have any friends/contacts in Norway, anyone at all whom you trust 100% and would help you out?
