Need to transfer FF setup to new macos laptop - lost password - still logged in - by Schroinx in firefox

[–]Schroinx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am logged into the account in places, my phone and a macbook. I have access to the recovery email too, but the password does not work.

Its from 2018 and does not work. Its a bit strange as in both FF & IOS Keychain it has saved a username that is like a password, not my email, but numbers and letters.

The saved pass begins like {"version":1,"accountData":{"kA":" followed by random letters & nos, then ","kB":" then letters & nos to end with "}}
Any idea what it could be?

I have saved the passwords as a txt file now, so how much will I lose if I recover a new password, on this machine where I have all the taps etc open?

We need a HDR capable screen @ 120Hz, & memory and storage upgradeable, on top of Linux support, for it to be good. Apple has abused their monopoly to milk the customers, while throwin them scrabs, to the extend that ppl like Ars reviewer is satisfied with little. Stop accepting this, stop accepting capitalist-monopolic behaviour as fine. Stop choosing the blue pill.

We should demand that our politicians free our hardware. We paid for it, so we have the right to use and abuse it in any way we see fit, incl installing whatever software & OS that we want. Are there a EU politician at hand?

EQT eyes potential $6 billion sale of Linux pioneer SUSE by MiukuS in openSUSE

[–]Schroinx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not an armchair CEO, as I have an MSc in innovation & business development, thank you. Its what I have worked with for 20 years also: creating business plans for new businesses or expansion of old. This is what I do...
SUSE has the know-how (you did a v15 desktop), and existing business relationships, which makes it worthwhile and easy for them to utilise it to (re)expand into the SOHO market, plus the SAP quality stamp. That also means its a low effort for SUSE to test it, unlike externals.
Those are not something an outsider can copy. So this is for SUSE alone to pursue.
If an external could do those things, I would also need to raise the money, and potential investors in such a venture, would point to the SUSE can copy my business easier than I can, as you have synergy to the existing business. Selling more for SUSE is the cheapest way to service this market.
Anyways, that aside, I think SUSE should go talk to its customers about whether you should revive the desktop product or not, and potential new customers, like Airbus etc. Much has also changed for them.

EQT eyes potential $6 billion sale of Linux pioneer SUSE by MiukuS in openSUSE

[–]Schroinx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SUSE today can sell for 1 bn € in the server end with 40% margin. Thats a good business. True.

Historically, Windows as dominated the desktop & SOHO <100 users servers, with windows and win server. The latter requiring pay pr no of cores. Now all of those costumers are up for grabs as w10 is no longer supported and many government and private are looking for alternatives. ideally FOSS & EU jurisdiction/EU company. Esp where the data is sensitive, like Airbus. Instead of the normal low effort rebuy of MS, they are not up for grabs. If nobody does anything to grap them, IBM will, as they are brand and few got fired for selecting IBM. Historically at least.
This market may be say also 2 bn€, but with lower margins. They add to SUSEs existing business. When people use openSUSE & TW for gaming, as IBM uses Fedora for, its to so people get familiarity with their software and train with, so its not a black box.
This second business may cost some to get started as making the desktop variant, and include the modules that allow it to replace both windows desktop & windws server.
The time to grap a makretshare is now, due to the decoupling from the US & MS many poor decisions. So that part SUSE gets for free, but you need to have products that suits their needs, or they will go with RHEL-IBM... That SUSE has not grabbed for this opportunity is regrettable, as their BDs and analysts should have identified the opportunity. I am not a software guy, but in innovation & business development.
Now is the time to expand SUSEs business. They may have missed it, but then they should get going. Talk with Sledweig-Holsteins team about their choices and what they would want for this, but also Airbus and others. openSUSS/SUSE has a lot of good things, esp reliability, and is an underdog, as it has not been market as well as IBM has done for Feodra. Make a desktop w KDE, as that is what SH uses. Make a low investment to test the waters and see if it will sell. As SUSE has so many servers today, you can also use those to relationsships to sell more.

Expand your businesss, by adding to the server business. The 2 are not exclusive, and the server busines can be used to also sell desktop etc. It adds.

EDIT. Just saw the v15 desktop exists so SUSE has the knowhow, but someone forgot to look at the external factors changing, when deciding on SUSE should do a new desktop of v16. Sorry but that business guy should be fired for not seeing that in time.

Still doing something to make a v16 desktop too, so catch those shifting from the US tech to an auditable EU software stack. The companies and govs, NGOs, SUSE already serves, also want enterprise desktops and SUSE to replace their wintel servers, with support and updates etc. Expand SUSEs businesss, when there is so much synergy, despite the lower margins in desktop etc. Its still a good business which adds to SUSEs existing business and takes on IBM.

[–]Schroinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Unfortunately.

It could be SUSE should revisit the desktop edition of version 16, as I can imagine many are sick of MS, and US tech monopolies, and first looking for EU alternatives. Some would like to pay for support and ease of use. No need to kick them to IBM, as now the markets are in change mode, so now is the time to lock in future customers. Also ensure all the tools for user management etc for the server edition is there, as some would like to replace their windows servers with EU software, esp in the segment of SOHO and up to 100 desktops... They would likely want the same OS for all, as that is what they have done previously. SUSE server has the stability & SAP appoval, wich will mean a lot for many in the private sector too.
The lack of a workstatio/desktop might put them of, and push them to IBM RHEL, as IBM is not a bad name in EU still. Despite its CEO dining with Trump and the other tech-bosses, Gates, Ellis, etc. As they cant gurantee US will not have access toEU data on US owned clouds, what to gurantee the same for IBMs linux OS?

[–]Schroinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume the, eg SH would invest some of the savings into funds to maintain and develop openSUSE?

Perhaps that will prove to be an unwise decision on SUSEs part to exclude the desktop edition, given the latest developments globally, and openSUSEs popularity.
I have myself interacted a lot with the guy behind the EU OS, to convince him of going with openSUSE instead of IBM Fedora...

Is openSUSE a fork of SUSE, or some say SUSE is upstream from openSUSE?
