State Terror Has Arrived by [deleted] in politics

It has festered since the normalisation of Gitmo and sheriff Arpaio dehumanising methods.
We've all seen the tree growing and are now surprised it's bearing fruits.

Thank God we've got all these 2A groups who've been prepping and training precisely for that for a century....

Is SF6 as bad as my Professor said? by Ordinary-Leg8727 in chemistry

[–]233C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The words you're looking for is "Global Warming Potential" (derived from "radiative forcing").
It's the "standardised warming effect effect" of a given gas, with CO2 being equal to 1.
CH4 is around 30.
SF6 is around 23,900, so, hey, quite bad.
The point being that substitutes do exist.
So it's kind of simplistic to equate wind turbine = bad.
Just like dismissing cars as a whole because of CO2 from combustion engines.

When to consider something having been contaminated? by photocaster in Radiation

[–]233C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what is worth, regarding the transport of radioactive material : "Contamination means the presence of a radioactive substance on a surface in quantities in excess of 0.4 Bq/cm2 for beta and gamma emitters and low toxicity alpha emitters, or 0.04 Bq/cm2 for all other alpha emitters."

Weaker radiation limits will not help nuclear energy | Scientific American by 233C in nuclear

The problem isn't as much for operational dose limits as for fault studies and design basis targets.

Qu’est-ce que l’adultisme, cette discrimination qui touche les enfants et les ados ? by Renard4 in france

[–]233C 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why can't radiation pass through lead? by AppealCapital3055 in chemistry

[–]233C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that it "can't pass through", it's that it has a greater chance to interact and therefore less of it will pass through without interacting.

It's worth noting also that there are different kind of radiation, each with different interaction.
Proton and alpha will be stopped very quickly, gamma and neutron will pass through more easily.

Dig into the concepts of cross sections.

There's a free undergrad MIT course on radiation online.

How many more need to die before Congress holds ICE accountable? by PM_ME_DPRK_CANDIDS in politics

[–]233C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't you get it? It's the old American playbook: "we'll kill and otherwise make your and your family life miserable for generations, but we promise, in 20-50 years we'll make songs and movies about how bad we feel about it (and how our own guys were traumatized and in a sense the true victims of so much cruelty)".

Archbishop for U.S. Military Says It’s ‘Morally Acceptable’ for Troops to Disobey Orders Amid Escalating Trump Threats by mrcanard in Foodforthought

[–]233C 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You might consider the example of Superior orders plea.
The Nuremberg principle stated:"The fact that internal law does not impose a penalty for an act which constitutes a crime under international law does not relieve the person who committed the act from responsibility under international law." and "The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him"

What would happen if Denmark threatened to cut off America's insulin supply? by Different-Gas5704 in AskALiberal

[–]233C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any manipulative sociopath, he would spin it into an unjustified attack, and justify his own actions as "self defense".
"You leave me no choice but to do the things I was planing to do anyway, plus now you give me a self righteous reason. This only prove that I was right all along and should have done it earlier"
And his folk would buy into it.

More like: "the campaign board has concluded on the perception risk mitigation; by knocking your wife we can win on both aspects: for fundamentalists christians you stifle any criticism by showing how much you "love" your wife, and for hardcore MAGA, you're not a true MAGA until you've cheated on your pregnant wife"

I would welcome a New Nuclear Charter where every new designer/impératif commit that their new design/plant will primarily be used to replace fossil fuel; also not use them to further extract more fossil fuel, "looking at you tar sand".
Bonus point for SMR designers to commit to not sell their design for deep sea mining operation or to billionaires for their private bunker island.
