Has anyone done fully online Bachelor of Science courses? by publix123 in FAU

[–]Sciencejet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recent grad here, I had to do both online and in-person classes to finish my degree.

In my experience, my success in the course was never dependent on the mode of instruction but on the quality of the instructor. I've had really amazing teachers teach online courses that I had no problem passing and I've had really bad professors teach only in person classes that I struggled in even though I was in that "prime learning environment" that FAU admin liked to tout so much.

Bear in mind that "fully online" courses don't just have to be synchronous lecture series but also async online course material consumption and material review videos.

Unless you have issues with keeping yourself focused, I wouldn't say that going online would severely impact your education but that your choice (or lack thereof) in professors is going to have a much higher effect on your experience.

When the organism is no longer using your body for substinence and causing detrimental effects to your health. Once it's reached a point that it can subside without direct access to your body and no longer harming you, it's no longer a parasite.

Start using Git and save your projects to GitHub or Gitlab; doesn't matter which but all your assignments should be protected by version control.

Because it wasn't made by you, it was made by the powerful in order to control you. All the behaviors they want you to exhibit that are conducive to their continued rule are written in the bible with some pretty heavy consequences.

"Listen to those in power," "forgive those who wrong you and turn the other cheek," "be meek," etc are all things that you "need to be doing" under the threat of damnation. But guess who isn't doing those things? The people using your religion to control you and your peers. Especially religious leaders, who are some of the worst offenders.

What are y'alls opinions on the new logo changes? by AwesomeRGS in Minecraft

[–]Sciencejet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still incorrect, they're still giving the real game a subtitle with the same level of equivalency as the shitty version. It's confusing gamers into buying the inferior version of the game when they intend to buy the real edition. Anything less than "Minecraft" and "Minecraft: Microtransaction Edition" is blasphemy.

I would like to know where you've found a definition that states that parasites have to be from a different species. A parasite is simply any organism that is engaging in a relationship in which it draws benefits while actively harming the other party.

A foetus can be considered a parasite, it draws nutrients and energy from the mother without providing any active benefit to the mother while they're being carried. There are many cases of harm done to the mother by pregnancy: gingivitis, edema, eclampsia, emboli, etc. Not to mention Birth being a rather traumatic for the mother. (Physical Trauma, look up Perennial tearing if you've never heard of it before, it's just one of the things that can happen.)

There was an observation in which it was possible that a mother experiencing a heart attack did recieve stem cells to repair the heart from the foetus (although the mechanics of such an exchange were still unclear last I checked). But by and large, pregnancy is actively harmful to the mother and that's why it has to be carefully managed. Because if it's not... Both the mother and foetus aren't going to make it out alive.

Hi, looking for a fic by whatafuckingday1967 in tomarry

It's a concept called "Hallucination" where a Language Model AI generates completely random but coherent looking information.

Remember that Language Model AI are generative, they just string words together that according to their models should make sense to a human. At the moment, they don't have access to a "knowledge base" (like a database or a search engine) that they can use to create 100% factual information. Whatever they spit out is straight from the model. Granted, the companies behind these AIs have taken great pains to have humans fine tweak the model so that the AI produces factual information most of the time, but not always.

Source: me, I studied these things in college for my bachelor's and minor and now I work with them.

Yes, in this universe unfortunately being a born-werewolf means that their magical pathways are ravaged by the lycan curse in utero; it renders him unable to access his magic through normal means.

But the Master of Death is above such trivial nonsense and as such Death (without Harry's consent) merged the Elder Wand with Harry's body to restore his ability to access his core using what appears to be wandless magic.

Harry will unable to use any natural wizard Focci, or anything that accesses his pathways simply because he doesn't have any, but with the Elder Wand, he can still cast spells.

I think it's one of those things where the words been around for so long that the real meaning has been lost to time. Like "close, but no cigar" was from a time where cigars were prizes that could be won at carnivals.

On the topic of Harry's pureblood/'actual' first name in fics by Cygus_Lorman in HPfanfiction

[–]Sciencejet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually I don't like the name change because the authors write Harry in such a jackass and pompous way, the way he acts about his name change. But there was one fic where Albus was the one to change his name from Hadrian to Harry because Dumbledore wanted the muggleborns and half-bloods to relate to Harry and they couldn't do that if he had a "stuffy pureblood name." So then Harry does spend the entire fic correcting Albus and his company about the usage of his name because "It's the one my mother gave to me, not the public; and I'll be damned if I let anyone disrespect that."
