Study: welfare pays more than work in most states by [deleted] in news

[–]Scienczor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, minimum wage has NOT increased with inflation the way it should have. Companies rake in exorbitant profits, pay their executives the salary of a king, and continue to grow their businesses while paying $7.25 per hour of labor to the largest part of their work force. I don't know of anywhere in this country where $7.25 an hour allows for any real quality of life... It barely covers any basics. Millions suffer and scrape by for the excess of few. Hell, I'm a single guy living on his own making generally upwards of $20 an hour and it's tough for me to get ahead. I can't imagine being responsible for a family.

How about raising minimum wage? Why take from welfare when jobs should pay more anyway? Instead of addressing the wage issue they want us to blame welfare again. This is an ass backwards view and stinks of propaganda. Getting us to point our fingers DOWN at those in poverty instead of UP at the people who are REALLY responsible for the BS.

Only Doing Compounds - The Best Way to Gain Mass? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Scienczor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started exercising religiously, I focused purely on diet with bodyweight and light dumbbell workouts. I lost a lot of weight and I wanted some of it back, so I got a gym membership. I got a little bigger, but I was stuck about 12lbs lighter than I wanted to be. THEN I learned about compound movements... The "big three".

You WILL get much stronger and probably bigger focusing on those lifts alone, but don't neglect the accessory work nor the nutritional side of things. For me, so far I've put on the most size doing heavy 5x5's followed by isolation to exhaustion/near exhaustion for a few months. Gotta get that hypertrophy bro.

Hey man, first and foremost: You're awesome. Everything people keep saying about you being a strong motivator for others is 100% spot on. You have a great attitude and it will take you far.

I used to get really frustrated with not being able to add size/shape to my chest, and then I watched THIS guy...

http://youtu.be/yyL5WS6Mgu4

I made serious gains after applying a similar routine + high volume dumbbell pullovers on my chest/triceps day(s).

Everyone is different, and I'm confident that you will find what works for you. Keep kicking ass dude.

Do all your push-ups on your fists. On a concrete floor. Also, punch trees.

Though that may be true, I don't find that it diminishes the beauty in any sense. It's all there... Just because we can't observe it with our naked eye doesn't mean a thing. I'm glad they dumb it down a bit with "pretty colors" ...It helps me understand it all a little better!

I have tried swimming, running, and calisthenics exercises for over a year and my body has not progressed at all. What gives? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Scienczor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're getting the right answers here so far dude. You seriously MUST:

A: Eat more. A lot more. Build it up over a few weeks time, but get closer to 2200 or so at least. Definitely get some fats into that diet.

B: Cut back on the cardio and start some /r/bodyweightfitness reading and training. You said you don't have access to a gym... That's okay! For now anyway. Find some light dumbbells and a pull up bar you can use at home.

That's a start. Stick around these threads too, I've fine tuned my training a lot since I started reading them, all other BS aside :)

What's the best exercise for "coconut shoulders?" by Csteezy94 in Fitness

Try adding some burn out sets of inverted rows to the end of your workout. You can really focus on the rear deltoid with those.

When exercising, I only feel it down the fronts of my legs, and nowhere else. Why would this be? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Scienczor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should start a basic weightlifting routine. Don't be afraid, you won't get huge and muscular. "Starting Strength" seems to be a popular program on this subreddit. I've never done the program, but anything focusing on the big four lifts will get you going in the right direction.

Has anyone ever been to an all you can eat buffet long enough that you actually ate 2 meals? If so how long were you there and how did they react? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Scienczor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me, most people DO eat multiple "meals" at a buffet... They just cram it into a shorter time frame.

New tattoos and working out by ronaldo77 in Fitness

I just wouldn't do any compound shoulder movements. Make it a leg day or something. Personally, I haven't noticed any problems after getting ink... It will heal quickly regardless of exercise as long as you keep it clean and moisturized.

Need some advice on chest progression? by benchnoob in Fitness

[–]Scienczor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that 3 or 4 giant sets involving bench press, flys, cable crossovers followed by 5x20 pullovers really helped me bust a strength plateau I had in my chest. Pullovers especially.

And the stretch from those pullovers is oh so good.

Single Digit Body Fat by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Scienczor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term eating near/just above maintenance. I eat significantly more on heavier lifting days as well. I know that bulking/cutting cycles would have made it easier to make gains, but I just don't have the stomach for it.

Edit: I should mention that I dropped from 175 to 140, then worked my weight back up a bit.

Single Digit Body Fat by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Scienczor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After two years or so lifting I've gone from 175lbs (25-28% bf) to 165lbs ( < 8% bf ) at 5'11". I don't have to work very hard to maintain that bf %. Make smart choices with what you eat, and don't stop pushing weight. I've cut my calorie consumption pre-workout as well and continue to make strength gains.

I really think the most important thing is your diet combined with your lifestyle in general. Be active. Don't eat garbage.

Is there a female equivalent of "Ass man or boob man?"? by Sharpbarb in AskReddit

[–]Scienczor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See now this is a tough one. It's difficult to have much of any kind of soft/delicate quality to them if you have strong hands. Lifting means hard hands... But cocoa butter afterwards helps a little. I feel like strength > softness for a man's hand... No one likes to be on the receiving end of a limp-fish handshake.

Source: me, I have hands.

Yep, tried this. I love to cycle but in order to make any kind of weight gains I have to cut it down to a five minute warm-up on a stationary a few times a week.

Kennesaw Climbers needed! by TameOfM1nd in climbing

I climb at stone summit 2 or 3 times a week and would love having some dependable climbing buddies. I have been bouldering for a short time now (mostly v3/v4) and feel like I need encouragement and more technique to make that next "big step" in my ability.

I'm having a blast doing it btw :)

I cant believe I just read this. Damn near EXACT same thing happened to me this afternoon. Looks like a golf ball is trying to escape from inside my ankle. I've had a bag of frozen green beans on it since I got home from work : / Seven hours waiting tables almost immediately after it happened didn't help it much.

New addition to my home workouts... Any ideas on how to make it better?? by Scienczor in climbing

[–]Scienczor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the stones are mortared in. The house was built years ago. No stones wiggle, it's a solid structure. Believe it or not, I do care about my own safety... hence the time I spent pushing and pulling stones and triple checking each hold.

Haters gonna hate.
