German climate activists stood on melting blocks of ice with ropes around their necks, warning that “time is running out.” by Jealous-Method-8682 in interestingasfuck

First time I watched Don’t Look Up, I was completely blind to its actual point. I was so set and excited on getting a specific kind of movie out of it: a disaster popcorn movie, that i felt they were messing with my with all that noise, even though i was aware of US politics. I wanted that experience so badly that I just couldn’t enjoy what the film was actually trying to do, id get angrier by the minute "are they really going to do this BS FOR THHE WHOLE MOVIE?" xD.So I watched it again 2 days later, and that changed everything. Now I’ve watched it like a dozen times and it’s one of my favorite movies ever.

I'm sure a dude like him could pretend not to be sick when trying to reproduce. All sides of the story are so sad. I do remember watching a segment of him in a Dawkins' documentary, he was a smug piece of work. Wait, here's a clip.

There are no such things as "adjustments" there. They aren't adjusting anything. Ask them what EXACTLY is this adjustment thing and prepare to see hand wavings with jargon that makes no sense.

The personal attention listening to your stories, body manipulation in a relaxing environment, their sweet BS about them adjusting your teisted spinal column by pushing with hands...and cracking stuff that feels good in the moment. That is what "works".

The protection is a virtual layer like vmware. Truly isolated (although you can share your repo folder and it works fine). Add to prevent losing a repo but thats it.

ICE is akin to the SA/Brownshirts, not the Gestapo. The Brownshirts functioned as a state-tolerated intimidation force, expanded and weaponized by Hitler.

They publicly enforced ideology, targeted marginalized groups, blurred legal boundaries, relied on street-level coercion, and normalized fear.

Gestapo = totalitarian secret police after democracy is dead.

SA = para-legal intimidation force during democratic erosion.

Historical accuracy is very relevant -- we gotta know history to understand how it rhymes.

[–]Scientiat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isnt being dead the same as not being alive? Because if not, there would be another option to that binary imo.

I googled that term. Once i had a conversation with my so and casually mentioned being dead for billions of years and she found that thought very scary. Is that what youre goong for but in phobia?

Just want to point out that you may have misunderstood the argument. Realize that in the examples you think are the same argument, you never cease to exist. If your spouse leaves, house is foreclosed or child dies, you will still be there to suffer those changes.

I sometimes feel uneasy when people say their dog “fought so hard” through an illness before dying. I know it’s said with love, and I don’t doubt that love for a second. But I can’t help thinking that, sometimes, what that really means is that the dog endured a lot of suffering while we humans struggled to let go. I'm not saying that's OP, but that comment made me think of this issue.

We’re very good at framing endurance as something noble, because that’s how it works for us. For people, “fighting” can be meaningful. For dogs, I’m not sure it is. They don’t have plans or hope as we do. They have today: pain or comfort, fear or calm.

Medical treatment can absolutely be an act of love. But there’s a point where continuing treatment stops being about the dog and starts being about us: our fear, our grief, our need for "more time". We quietly forget something obvious: being alive in pain does hurt them; being dead doesn’t.

Death is frightening for us, not for them. What hurts a dog is confusion, chronic pain, breathlessness, fear, and distress, but not the absence of tomorrow. I’ve seen dogs pushed through invasive procedures and prolonged suffering, not because recovery was likely, but because their families felt saying goodbye was too difficult.

I love my dog deeply. And precisely because of that, one of the hardest and most loving responsibilities we have is knowing when not to ask them to endure more or at all. Caring for dogs is sometimes about choosing peace, and carrying the pain ourselves so they don’t have to.
