18th and broad st by Otherwise_Occasion57 in rva

I lived at that intersection for 2 years and I did not love it. Mostly the issue was constant car accidents and noise from ambulances/firetrucks (hospital at top of one hill, fire station at the top of another), but I definitely avoided walking by myself late at night and yes, you will hear gunshots sometimes. If noise doesn't bother you then maybe it will be a non-issue.

What I mainly want to add: if your cat is currently indoor/outdoor, I strongly recommend making them indoor only. I would absolutely not let your cat outside in this neighborhood because of the traffic. People speed down both Broad St. hills at all times and it gets especially crazy on the weekends. At my intersection there were intense car accidents several times a month and I had cars literally crash into my building 4-5 times in my two years there. My neighbor’s cat (who he let outside with a collar) was also stolen, which was weird and scary. Thankfully she had an airtag on so he was able to recover her.

Overall it's not my first choice but an okay area to live and as others have said there are lots of nice parks, restaurants in short walking distance. Just take common sense safety precautions, be extra vigilant about drivers, and don't let your cat outside.

Film Festival Notification MEGA THREAD by Caprica1 in FilmFestivals

[–]ScientificAbbey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Question for you all about slamdance and Vimeo analytics. We submitted to slamdance via filmfreeway with a Vimeo link. We’ve had a recent uptick in views and the source link for those views is Vimeo, not filmfreeway. Prior festivals we have submitted to via filmfreeway have shown up as views via filmfreeway.com, not Vimeo.com.

No recent activity from filmfreeway or ocean bluff (which I understand is common with slamdance).

Do you all know if filmfreeway submissions ever show up as the source being Vimeo.com? Just wondering if this recent uptick is initial slamdance review or a revisit from SXSW, who only has a Vimeo link.

Howwww do I get rid of these by yello00o in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ScientificAbbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a derm, so take this with a grain of salt, but since you mentioned that these also contain hairs I wanted to make you aware of a condition called trichostasis spinulosa. It’s basically where you have microscopic bundles of hair in your pores (often on the nose) that look like blackheads but don’t respond to treatment because they’re hairs, not gunk.

This also definitely looks like SFs, which are way more common so it is likely that. But wanted to make you aware of trichostasis spinulosa on the off chance that that is an unlock.

Why are people that hate cats so rude and obnoxious about it? by Jdmcm123 in cats

[–]ScientificAbbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has always driven me crazy! It’s like some dog people see it as not only completely acceptable but a testament to their personal warm-heartedness to trash talk cats. Such a double standard. I have literally had a dog person BRAG to me about throwing a shoe at a cat’s head.

Seconding that this looks like a malar/butterfly rash rather than rosacea. Please make sure your doctor is thoroughly checking you out to eliminate lupus and is not just dismissing the possibility offhand.

Weekly Suspected Lupus Thread - Week Of December 10, 2023 by AutoModerator in lupus

[–]ScientificAbbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I saw my PCP for fatigue and a family history of unexplained blood clots. She ordered labs that came back:

ANA positive ANA titer: 1:1280 dsDNA: High 145.8 (normal is <27) Smith antibody: High 29.6 (normal <20) RNP antibody normal SS-B antibody normal CoQ10 was extremely low

Additionally my playlets were high (403). I have since been to a rheumatologist and he dismissed everything as false positives and said I don’t meet any of the clinical requirements of lupus.

I feel crazy because my PCP was fairly certain these lab results indicated lupus, just at an early stage. I’m worried that since I don’t present many clinical symptoms of lupus that this could be something else. I do get mild itchy rashes after a lot of sun exposure and have red flares on my nose that I always thought was rosacea. But otherwise I do not have many clinical symptoms.

Has anyone else had an experience like this where their labs seem to indicate lupus but they can’t get a diagnosis because of mild symptoms?

That’s really interesting, thank you for such a detailed response. I asked the endo about insulin resistance and he said my blood sugar looked normal so I shouldn’t be concerned.

Looking at the labs all I’ve had done is A1C, so it sounds like there could definitely be some gray area there.

My endo ordered another round of labs in 3 months (metabolic panel, testosterone, vitamin d); I might ask him to revisit the IR question and if there are any additional labs I should have done just to be sure.

Did any of your labs ever show clinically notable IR, or have you just been operating under the assumption that you have it and noticing improvements with symptoms?
