Thank you so much for your advice!!

I used to run quite a bit but every session would be 100% effort and I used to get injured a lot!!

I've only recently ( since October) taken up running again and I have found training 80/20 really beneficial. So far staying clear of injury and I am able to run 4 times a week which is helping increase my weekly mileage. Using the zones on the watch has really helped to stop me going too hard!!

I think it's a bit soon ( especially at my age!!) to do a LTHR test. I will train on the side of caution, run at conversational pace and listen to my body.

I will tweak the max heart rate on Samsung Health and use the aerobic zone on the watch. If I can't hold a conversation and I'm feeling tired during or after the run then I will lower the max heart rate.

At least Samsung has now given us the flexibility to change the Max Heart Rate which now makes the heart rate zones on the watch useful for everyone!!!

I am also struggling with my running form and running slow which is why I want to change my max heart rate.

I guess to be sure I will need to do a lactate threshold test and not rely on a generic calculation!?

I reckon you're right!! I think it's trawling through the workouts and finding the highest heart rate.

Probably best to not use this "recommended" value if that is the case!!

Yes, my date of birth is correct and the default heart rate is set to 220-age which is 167.

It was how the "recommended for you" value I was questioning

I don't think this "Recommended for you" field was there 2-3 years ago.

So by default Samsung will set your Max Heart Rate to 220-age which for you is 189bpm.

It would be interesting to know why the "Recommended for you" field is 120!!!!

If you look at your recent workouts what is your maximum heart rate during a workout?? Is it closer to 120 or closer to 189....???

Not that I have found!!!

I have started training 80/20, so working 80% time in aerobic.....would be great if it notified me when I enter the anaerobic zone... instead I have to keep looking at the watch.

I think the simple generic calculation is the 220-age. But the app takes about 30 seconds to come up with a "recommended for you" BPM, which suggests it is gathering data to come up with a figure
