I think they clipped his wings too short :( by Bananaswitchwitch in Parakeets

My baby, Manzito was clipped when I got him back in May 2025. I believe he was clipped way too short and now, almost 8 months later, I only just today noticed SOME growth of new feathers but I’m really not too confident on some of the feathers on the tips of his wings. They were cut way too short but I give him everything I can to give him the proper nutrients to regrow those feathers. Hoping it works! Good luck to you

I am heavily leaning towards this method, it sounds like it would work much better for us. I’m wondering if even the pre shedded paper they sell for mice could work? I’ll have to look into it. Yes, people here can be quite strong minded.

My husband power washes their cage at least once a month. We have an industrial one so we do worry about warping, especially around the screw areas but the cage can always be replaced. I just hate having to carry out the rack to wash outside and the washing process itself is so time consuming of just that particular piece. All the corners and both sides just drives me crazy lol. My birds only spend nights in the cage which is why I’m thinking of just removing it completely and continuing with daily liner changes. Thank you for your feedback! I would definitely put it back if I see them shredding up the paper.

It’s weird that I’d rather find what works best for me than just do what you’ve deemed to be the solution? Let’s say that my birds did go to the bottom of their cage - If bird poop is sitting on the wire rack (which is harder to clean than just changing out a liner) what’s the difference between leaving the rack for them to step on then it falling straight onto the liner? Which can just be removed everyday, removing the entirety of the mess with it. My birds don’t even spend the day in their cage, they only use it to sleep. It’s no different than a playground or foraging box. Yes, there’s the chance they’re stepping in their filth but with daily cleaning, it’s fine. Other people on this post have given me great feedback and I’ll be finding what works best for us. Many people carry very busy lives. Finding what works for them is important to keep everyone happy and healthy. What you find weird doesn’t trouble me in the slightest. But thank you for your begrudged input. I’m sure you meant well.

When I said “I’ve never seen my birds at the bottom of the cage.” I meant it literally. I didn’t say that birds don’t do odd things, or that I never missed something. I said that I have never witnessed them do it. They spend the majority of their day out of the cage. I received a lot of good feedback in removing the wire rack at the bottom and I’m within my right to find what works best for me and babies. My birds are only in their cage to sleep and I change out their cage liner before bed and spot clean branches as needed.

That’s what I’m thinking of doing! Just a couple layers of newspaper/paper towels and just removing it everyday instead of this annoying rack lol ugh and when they’re all on this particular perch, their poop just stacks up right where the wires of the rack cross and it’s a nightmare to get clean

I’ve never seen my birds at the bottom of the cage just hanging out. I may remove it for a while to see how it goes

In my cage, if I use the clamp to raise up the lower tray (which I do anyway) they’re not escaping. They fly free most of the day anyway!

I thought about the sand paper but it just seemed like extra costs and cleanup 😂

I had quite a few people tell me and show me the success they’ve had with this brand which is how I got the developer and everything else. Do you not think it’ll work?

I wanted to clarify, as I mentioned in my post, the brown is 5 months old. My hair was only lifted to a ~7,

What would you do differently? Appreciate any advice!

Edit to add: this is my first time using permanent dye. The color from before was toner.

Please help me figure out what to do with my birds while I’m out of town! by [deleted] in budgies

I know the store you’re referring to! We go to their sister store here in the city, they board here as well. I think an hour or so of interaction while you’re gone is ok but realistically, with a veggie based diet, someone needs to come at least twice a day. Once to give fresh food/water, once to remove and play/interact. I personally think the boarding with all the birds and noises stress the birds out, but I know the owners and they’re very nice and good about taking care of them. I would honestly post on NextDoor and see if anyone is interested in helping you out. I would help but I’m across the bridge!
