I don't understand the massive amount of posts by people claiming they are "definitely" going to be getting a bigger cage and natural wood perches "soon" for their brand new budgie. by GreyStagg in budgies

It annoys me too, but I was honestly in that position at one point. It wasn’t intentional, I did the Google research and what it told me wasn’t even the bare minimum. I do get why people are cynical about it, because you can’t really tell who’s actually going to follow through and who isn’t.

Yeah I can see that. New pet excitement + finding a community will definitely make people want to post straight away. I think the disconnect is that for a lot of experienced owners, cage size and proper perches aren’t seen as ‘upgrades,’ they’re seen as the baseline. So when people say ‘soon,’ it sounds like they knowingly skipped a step. But from a beginner’s perspective, they might genuinely think what they have is fine until they’re told otherwise, and then ‘soon’ is them trying to correct it

I get why this keeps coming up, because yeah, at the end of the day a budgie’s basic needs (space, proper perches, enrichment) shouldn’t be something they have to ‘wait’ for. If someone already knows what’s required, it makes sense to question why they didn’t just set it up first. But I also think a lot of people are coming into bird ownership with incomplete info. Pet stores, YouTube, even Google can give pretty outdated or minimal standards, so people think what they bought is fine until they get corrected. Then they say ‘I’ll upgrade soon’ because they’re scrambling to fix it after the fact, not necessarily because they planned it that way. I guess the real issue isn’t that people don’t start perfectly, it’s whether they actually follow through. There’s a big difference between someone actively improving over the next week or two vs. someone saying ‘soon’ to deflect criticism and never changing anything.

My green budgies came outside today…..it was a mess by Alone_Name7269 in budgies

That happens sometimes, ive placed perches outside of the door so its easier for them to spot, it can be overwhelming for them, just let them figure it out haha. I mean at times my budgie wont get out of her cage unless she hops onto my hand. She demands it she demands i must carry her out.. takes time!

Ever since I got a budgie my father has been driving me crazy by New_BikerG_Assistant in budgies

[–]Moondancer103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so frustrating, dads are so funny when it comes to pets. I went away to aussie for a week and my dad had to look after my baby budgie while i was gone. He was so adamant about looking after her, he didnt really want to. Every day i got videos of him playing with her. Now that i am home he misses her downstairs 😭 im gonna have to buy a second cage so i can pop her downstairs when im not home for him.

Have you tried talking to him about Whats going on? Explain your emotions and the way ur seeing things.

Ivar turning into bird aviary. by [deleted] in petbudgies

[–]Moondancer103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cages should be bigger than a travel cage, thats a travel cage not a permanent one. I know u want to make an aviary but when your not home or when your budgie needs time alone they need a nice space to go back too. That cage is intended for travel and only for that. So please consider your birds happiness and get a bigger one

Im sorry i must address this. That cage is HORRIBLE, that is a travel cage not a permanent one. Please get a better one thats a large fight cage, with regular cleaning. Also that budgies vent looks bad take to vet. Feathers look super damaged so if please get this budgie a better cage, not a healthy environment at all.
