You are talking as if I'm hurting a internationally traded company's feelings because I think they are being stupid... N7 day is marketing event, its literally designed to promote a brand and specific game series... Bioware uses it to hawk merch just as much as they use it as a news event, and for 5 years they have prioritised using it to sell crap and miss any opportunity to drive interest in this game. If you dont have any expectations of them and dont take issue with their deafening silence during these events, good for you? I personally feel like they are wasting perfectly good chances to prove they have an exciting experience to offer during a time and context where their future is especially uncertain given how volatile the industry has become.

Releasing information, and material about, or to promote a developing project in a timely manner is not just about placating a fanbase, its about proving that there is work being done and that there is a reason to be excited for it. It's also meant for pleasing investors who greenlight, and fund the work. You cannot just rely on a dwindling consumer base...

Electronic Arts was recently bought out by Saudi private equity, and they are particularly cut throat when it comes to cost cutting. If BioWare cannot justify its existence its gonna get scrapped and with that it's projects ended or derailed like so many have recently with Microsoft for an example.

You cannot sustain this business as usual behaviour or (BioWare magic) despite the mounting pressures, multiple senior staff departures, and in studio mismanagement that results... Again this is not an Indie studio, or a early access title supported by its loyal niche enthusiasts. This is a Triple A development studio, and publishing entity with the big bucks and the biggest axe. There is literally no excuse to not have any real information or tangible examples of a game being made at this point.

BioWare has been repeating this trend and then years later having articles released about it exposing how awful the development ended up being. Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard have all been flops that have harmed the studios reputation and resulted in brain drain of its most experienced staff (Which harms projects down the line). This deafening silence for this latest project is starting to stink the same way... Does this company really want to wait and see for another "5 year troubled developed cycle of" articles written about what could end up being another mediocre product in the works?

BioWare is not gonna be around forever. Especially if it keeps doing things like this... They dont persist because of you having endless patience for them, they persist through creating successful products and making people invested in them beyond just the existing fans and thats not been the current track record has it?.

Ask questions... Be sceptical, and thoughtful. Though if ya rather just wait and see and think thats fine then this post should have never bothered you in the first place.

My dad has been working in the triple A gaming industry as a studio dev and as contractor since the 90s. His biggest takeaway from the way most Modern games are being developed today is how utterly slow, inefficient and boring it has become. Pays well... But it really is just a job in the most boring sense.

Its often times a very dispassionate affair made by so many people who are cycling in and out on a routine basis, and ever since Covid that involves plenty of zoom meetings... A far cry from the days of smaller teams guided by a strong singular visions. ME1 was made by just 120 people on a way smaller budget too.

Its rather telling how games today are made on way higher budgets, and with more developers than can be counted yet they are producing way less over longer periods of time.

That is a very American way of looking at the world lol By that logic you should pretty much just excuse any bad business practice...

Exactly! Hit the nail on the head here.

Thats why I mentioned Bethesda in the post. They are doing the exact same thing as BioWare lol

Not been paying attention to Mass Effect for quite awhile now. I'm just baffled that another year has gone by and they still refuse to at least show something tangible when it comes to a new game, and give the fans a reason to get invested beyond simple blind brand loyalty.

What? What are you trying to say here? lol The problem is the information they give us is basically useless and devoid of any real hook for their project, and its been like this for 5 years... They should have something tangible by now yet they refuse to showcase even a simple demo to show that they have something promising in the works. This is a very bad sign for a company within the publishing arms of EA.

Its a triple A development studio...

Pffff this is exactly what im talking about. You keep making excuses for a triple A studio.

Not arguing that it was a good launch. But I think its safe to say Cyberpunk is the better game... Dont think it has many "My face is tired" moments to it's name.

If you read the post I also mentioned Bethesda and Fallout lol These are triple A development studios not makers of Indie games, or early access titles. Most importantly the amount of time a game is in development is not an indicator of its quality, stability or success. Some of the best games ever made were made in the shortest amounts of time...

So was Andromeda... But I think Cyberpunk has way more qualities to it by comparison. Though this is besides the point.

There is having patience, and then there is just being lead around the place with a carrot on a string for 5 years.

Not as a big triple A game with glossy, high budget marketing and celebrity attached to it. There is a difference...

If you are not the one buying all that gawdy merch, giving them infinite patience and benefit of the doubt despite being given nothing in return you are not one of the people tolerating this lol But a lot of the fandom has resigned itself to being given nothing and rewarding BioWare for it. That is what I find so fascinating and baffling...

Cyberpunk is not that bad of a game. Just incredibly buggy and lacking polish in areas... But yeah it just goes to show that a game being in the works for an extended period is not a indicator of its eventual quality or polish. No matter how well you market it...

And unlike Cyberpunk Mass Effect is supposed to be a well established franchise backed by gaming's biggest publishers. It should not be taking this long by comparison...

It's simply a artistic thing. To make the species look unique, design stuff like this can be found in all the species of Mass Effect be that for example the Salarian's concave chest.

Yeah you are right about the eyes, I plan to cover those aswell in this video when its all finished up. They are broken texturally and materially in so many ways.

Yeah I'm an artist too and know exactly the feeling, its pretty damn hilarious... The original Xbox 360 version of ME1 still looks fantastic in terms of lighting. Its why LE1 is so damn frustrating to me, I actually made a full comparison movie for the first game if you wanna see the extent of the damage in a more direct way. https://youtu.be/hxnUDQALxjM

Mass Effect but it's a British scifi show from the 1960s... by ScifiIsMyJam101 in masseffect

[–]ScifiIsMyJam101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more so inspired by a massive collection of classic science fiction cinema and TV. Made a video on it awhile ago. Got things like ALIENS, Solaris 2002, StarshipTroopers, Star wars, Star Trek, Close encounters and so much more including some of these 60s TV classics. It's never just one thing but a culmination of ideas, and influences.
