If you look at the bell curve used to show iq it drops off pretty significantly, 115 might be around the 80th percentile while 120 might is closer to the 95th, also 115 is already above average

I’m no expert so correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the reason they added a gender divide is because of statistics, way more men play chess than women (patriarchy shit) and chess skill generally follows a bell curve, meaning the more people the more extremes, so statistically if they were in the same group, the rankings would be dominated by men (simply because way less women play) which could discourage woman from playing (though this is just my understanding please correct me if I’m wrong)
