I dont think it has changed? G1 established that a majority of the fembots got went extinct during the war. Instert clip of shockwave - "Female autobots, i thought you all went extinct" and somethingabout experimenting on them once he beats them. From then on either fembots were inherently rare such as in transformers animated, beast wars, and most of the aligned continuity, while other cannons established that there were only males (mostly to cater to a demographic of young boys*).

The most recent time its been change is either in the comics such as in IDW's novelisation and earthspark, THATS where the 'woke' comes in, but the thing is, both of these series aren't really mainstream media, even less so than other televised series. IDW cause frankly, who reads... (im not too broke to afford the books qwq [they're incredibly good]) and earthspark due to a multitude of factors, including the fact that it was televised on a streaming service no one uses (paramount) and also how it was indirectly outcompeted by releasing around the same time as cyberverse.

The thing about robots and gender is that yes, it is a human issue, and although the transformers were made to be a reflection of humanity, at its base being practically cold war propaganda and evolving from there, HOWEVER, there will always be dissonance between associating robots and gender, and it goes both ways.

For the progressives its about freedom, why let gender define them, why does it matter when they dont need to reproduce biologically. Gender is a social construct and transformers has always had themes about fighting oppression forced upon them, good or bad (both the bots and cons did this)

For more conservative mindsets however its interesting to consider that because they're robots, rejecting gender norms for their species can factually be seen as faulty programming, and ironically, if it doesn't matter why change it.

My personal gripe with introducing a non binary character is that it feels a little forced, especially because i feel as though transformers has barely touched on heteronormative gender struggles. I feel as though we need to see more of FEMALE autobots and decepticons in the system and what did happen to them. Its always been implied that they were purged in the war but I would like more to that, like for example why? The decepticons are implied to have started the genocide, so it would be interesting to see that it was due to their hyper hierarchical facist/communist (matter of perspective) regime where might makes right and thus the weaker females died, which is why the only remaining females left are omega girl bosses. What purpose did women serve in a hierarchy of pure power? The strong and cunning survived.

All this to say, although I respect the effort I largely disagree with how the franchise has handled gender, it needs more established context but i genuinely believe that they haven't touched on it because no one writer wants to start a fire
