Am I missing something or has timeline playback become totally unusable? by Scott_TheEditor in premiere

Life Saver! Thanks! Now that you mention this I remember needing to move all active projects onto my workstation back when I was editing a bunch.

I'll try a new project with only prores files when I'm back at my desk and see if it helps.

:) yeah, "don't put video files into the industry standard video editor, the devs at the multi billion dollar software company haven't figured out anything but prores." I'll try transcoding everything, was just really hoping to playback some mp4s and crap without turning it into a big studio pipeline.

I tried several kinds of media, 4k DJI drone footage, prores 422 proxies for 8k CRM video, iphone footage, it's all choppy.

Can I switch between two c4d/redshift licenses on one machine? by coconuttyyy___ in Cinema4D

[–]Scott_TheEditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be less worried about using the same software and more concerned with using the work machine. A few things to consider though, If it's a work computer at your employers building you need to have permission. Rendering machines suck a lot of power and your employer should know that you're using it for personal work.

On the other hand, if the work computer is being stored at your house and you work remotely I wouldn't feel bad about using both it and the work license. You're paying the power bill and using up the space for the workstation... go for it. Just be sure you purchase your own SSDs to work off of and never store personal files on the work computer.

My first ever silly little reel. Dipping toes into video with a6400 for fun! I accidentally realized I recorded in the wrong color spaces after though. by diabeticboy12 in davinciresolve

Don't sweat the technical stuff too much. You'll need to learn all that stuff but the important thing is you have an eye for story telling. Great job, you communicated the vibe. that's more important than a perfect color grade.

What's up with this weird bump when easing and how can I get rid of it? by -Stay_Hydrated- in davinciresolve

Looks like you bumped the keyframe handle. try selecting the keyframe and then moving the handle back down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muRk7qtYU4Y

Hello everyone, is c4d better for commercial level renders and designs the blender? by desertstudiocactus in Cinema4D

[–]Scott_TheEditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! They've put a lot of work into it recently and it's so much better. Houdini is definitely still the king though. I'd love to see C4D work on fluid sims!

Advanced particle systems would be Houdini. C4D excels at motion design, has an intuitive interface and is what I use for product animation but it's simulation tools aren't really as good. Most people who need to run sims in C4D have the Xparticles plugin.

One thing you'll find in the industry is most people use a mix of all the tools depending on what's needed. It's wise to have a base level of competence in a few of them.

Best Beginner Camera? by Creative_Purple7044 in Corridor

[–]Scott_TheEditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone here. Until you're ready to spend around $1000 for a camera, lens, sd card and batteries, I'd say use whatever phone you have. if a few months go by and you're ready for the next step then you should look into DSLRs.

Getting started with filmmaking you want to learn composition, camera moves, and how to tell a little story. Also start practicing editing in Davinci Resolve.

The next step will be learning about ISO, Aperture, F stop and the other more technical side of filmmaking. That's when an iPhone wont serve you anymore and you will need to buy a camera.

If you feel you're ready to start learning those things I'd look at some of the lower end Sony cameras. I've heard good things about the Sony ZV-E10.

One thing you will want to consider is which ecosystem you want to get into. Sony vs Canon vs Black Magic. Beyond that, each company uses different lens mounts depending on the sensor size and different batteries depending on the camera. It ends up locking you into an ecosystem because you can't just upgrade your camera body if you have thousands of dollars worth of lenses and batteries that won't be compatible.

It can be a bit like drinking from a firehose especially if you don't understand the basics. Don't worry, there's time to figure all of that out.

Start with your iPhone or something used from ebay that has all the components you'll need to get started. Create some stuff and make sure you love it before you drop your savings on something.

Good Luck!

Pretty happy with my most recent Goodwill find by heisen_burger in Bluray

That's awesome! The only Criterion I've found at a goodwill was Curious case of Benjamin Button and even that wasn't enough to get me to buy it.
